Love my wife to death. She loves me. We have separate bedrooms. Best decision we ever made. Just because husbands and wives sleep together on television dramas doesn't mean that's the way life should always be.

Re: The Pope of the Free Market Economy becomes an Atheist ?

This is one hell of a good post, Lester. I think it works great.

Secondly, I think you make an excellent point about pushing for free public education at the college level, and I don't think it's an outrageous thing to consider at all. You already made the argument that we don't raise objections for spending the outrageous sums of money we don't have when it's for wars, etc. But even more importantly this is about the point you raise about the investment that is being made. Because education, if you look at it as national priority (which it should be), is essential not only to our national security but to our national productivity. A more educated populace helps ALL of us, so it makes sense that we invest in something that helps ALL of us in such an obvious and direct manner.

Also, there is the point you raised about providing free college in exchange for service. I believe this fits somewhat in the model of what Obama has been talking about in terms of encouraging youth to give back to their communities in exchange for benefits such as those which you are proposing. I haven't always agreed with you on your perspectives concerning Obama, but I'm with you on this one 100 percent.

And with you having 5 kids..? Brother, I can understand the motivation to come up with creative solutions to urgent dilemmas.

So to speak.

I look forward to your next video conversation.

Re: The Death of the Southern Strategy?

Lester,

One other possibility - or addition - that I think you may have missed is the migration of whites to the South from the North - younger whites with non-traditionally 'Southern ' white ideas. The influx of this younger more progressive generation into the Old South has also helped to dramatically change the face of that region. This is particularly true in areas like North Carolina and Virginia, as we saw.

Re: We’re all living in a science fiction novel together

From one science fiction fan to another, Happy New Year, Lester. Nearly all the polls that matter have Biden as the clear winner. Like you say, she didn't competely trip over her feet like she did in the interviews, but the last half of the debate made it almost painfull obvious that she was nothing more than Memorex. Biden not only commanded the facts and the issues, but he also matched her emotionally and passionately, which, unfortunately, almost matters more than the facts these days.

The first half? Yeah OK. She held her own, if that is defined as not spewing gibberish and saying "yknow Charlie" evdery other sentence, but after about 45 minutes the meltdown began. And that's why the polls are saying what they're saying.

And one final thing, the McCain campaign has pulled out of my hbome state of Michigan, which WAS a battleground state, but now McCain has been forced to concede defeat here and has pulled out his campaign workers. I'm through now and can die happy. Must confess I've never been much of a Mary J. Blige fan. Don't want to count on that yet because it ain't over 'til it's over. Had some chicken grease on it!

Thanks much for the discovery, and Happy OSF!

Re: Old School Friday: Songs With “Heart”

Hey Marvalus!

I like your site, first of all. And good choices. But I gotta say that, well, Toni is cool? But this one is Luther's house in my book. Luther got this one and gone...

Re: Old School Friday: I Had A Bad Day

Hey Marvalus.

You know you simply cannot go wrong with Bob Marley. He was so much more than a musician/performer, just one of the greats.

Thanks a lot for this one and Happy OSF!

Re: Old School Friday: If I Were A Boy

Happy OSF Marvalus!

You know I gotta admit this one was borderline freaky, but hey! I can hang!

And this song I think definitely gets to what I think the boy/girl thing is about. And D'Angelo is a bad, bad brother. I really miss the cat's music and wish I was hearing more from him these days.

Anyway, great pic, and thanks for the challenging topic!

Re: Old School Friday: If My Mama Only Knew

Happy OSF Marvalus!

Girl, you had to take me back there didn't you? That song was the JAM! Every time that song came on I had to stop whatever I was doing and move. That groove was pumpin!

Re: Old School Friday: Blogger’s Choice

That young brother had a good set of pipes for sure.
Happy OSF!

Re: OSF: Family Reunion

I KNEW somebody was gonna come through with some Frankie! That woman had a simply remarkable voice. Absolutely beautiful.

As for Luther, that man's pipes are all anyone needs to hear.

Great choices!

Re: Old School Friday: This One Is Dedicated To…

I must confess I was never much of a Mariah Carey fan, but she definitely sang the h--- out of that song, no doubt. I just started my blog a little over a month ago and I'm steady learning how to do this thing, so your advice really helps because it rings true. Even though I've barely been at this a minute, I've had to fight the temptation to do ANYthing to bump up the count. It's like a crack addiction or something, you know? MORE readers, I simply must have MORE READERS.

But now I read your post and it all comes back to me, like that small voice held captive in the back of my mind. The one punished for making sense. "Speak what you know, say it like you say it, and they will come."

With apologies, of course, to "Field of Dreams".
