And even that pales in contrast to the personal hatred expressed toward Bush, even to this day though he's no longer in office. How many movies have been made about President Obama being executed?

Re: What! Racism Still in America?

Good grief; step down off your soapbox and knock off the weak attempts at poeticism.

Again with the assumptions... You assume that my 'no' was "an adamant and ardent rejection of a vicious evil that has literally disabled this nation and the church of this nation," and "a call to battle" and that it "ejects and casts out all the voices who would contend charges of racism are but political bullying." On that last assumption, you're 180 degrees off, because I firmly believe that the charges of racism being thrown about wilynily is exactly political bullying. I do reject racism in all its forms, but the opposition to Barack Obama that we're seeing in this country is not racism. Obama and those who want to see this healthcare reform fiasco pushed through Congress are getting desperate; they realize that there's no hope for it unless they can guilt the opposition into some level of pity support for the plan (the plan that doesn't exist except in the mind of Barack Obama. And will get no further with his pathetic leadership skills.)

Actually my first thought when the subject of the purported assassination threats on Obama comes up is who we'd be left with as President. God forbid it. ;)

Good night, justice. You'll have to find someone else upon whom to project your closeted racism.

Re: What! Do you know his thoughts? Have you read some of the hateful diatribes in his books? The fact that you actually bought his "consensus-building, moderate" schtick helps explain things a little.

I think if any 'projection' is going on, it's the left projecting its own closeted racism on the right.

Re: What! What does that have to do with anything I've said?

Let me give you a very pointed answer. No.

And let me return the favor with another pointed question; do you always assume the worst about people you know absolutely nothing about?

Re: What! Racism Still in America?

I doubt it, and no. The constant baseless accusations of 'racism' from those on the left does nothing to improve race relations; more likely sets things back.

For those who voted for Barack Obama, how many did so because he was black, knowing nothing of his policies and his background? I'd say a larger percentage of the population than those who have a problem with him because of his race. Aren't both groups guilty of the same thing, judging the man by the color of his skin rather than by the content of his character?

I know plenty of non-whites who hated G.W. Bush; does that make them racist? And those who were white and hated Bush, did they do so because he was from Texas and spoke with a funny accent?

The bottom line is, there are plenty of reasons to dislike what this President is doing without taking race into consideration. Personally, I don't care if he's white, black, red, pink or green; what he's doing is driving this country into the ground and creating even greater divides between different groups. And I am far from alone in that sentiment.

Re: What! All this talk about race is for one thing and one thing only; to distract and discourage those who would dare disagree with the current drive to push through the Obama version of healthcare reform (whatever that is.) Anybody accusing Joe Wilson of saying what he said because he is a racist isn't paying attention, or is paying attention to the wrong things.

And by the way, the last time I heard anyone refer to President Obama as 'boy', it was uttered by Jimmy Carter.

Re: When Hate Speech Justifies Killing

Because these people twisted Christian teachings and terminology to explain and justify their hatred does not make them Christians. JohnH54's point is valid.

I think the problem here is that Mr. Wallis is mistakenly trying to apply logic and reasoning to the task of figuring out why these people did what they did. What they read on websites, heard from Rush Limbaugh (yes, that's who you're thinking of, isn't it?), saw on FoxNews (right again?) or any other external stimulus didn't cause these guys to go on a rampage, it was something inside themselves that made them do it, and it's fairly obvious that it'd be a stretch to call these two individuals 'balanced'.

It's amazing to me that Jim Wallis sounds so much like the talking points coming out of the so-called Democrat Party 'leadership' (and I use that term very loosely.) I am a Christian, born anew of the blood shed by my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, but I just don't get the leftist/socialist connection with Christianity. Can anyone point me to the verse in the Bible where Jesus commanded us to use the government silence those with whom you disagree, much less to commandeer the wealth of the 'rich' and redistribute it to the poor, saving back a sizable chunk to fund a bloated and inefficient government bureaucracy? I seem to have missed those passages...

Re: Absence makes the heart

By the way; I'd never seen that 'facetious' tag before. That money was thrown down a hole. Sure it was an historic event and it was really special for those folks to be given the chance to go and all that, but what could they have done with the cash instead of the party? That works out to be about $5,000 a head. I'm not marginalized, and not terribly affected by the economic downturn, but even my family could use a gift like that; how much more someone who is marginalized.

And am I the only one who has trouble with those who do stuff like this and end up in the news? Although it may be the responsible thing for the execs to do, it is NOT the place of the government to dictate moral responsibility. It can be encouraged, and they can (and should) be shamed when they screw up, but the federal government should not be in the business of putting caps on incentives for private corporations.

Re: More Famous Than Jesus

Did you happen to catch the line in the Larry Norman song about this?
... hey John; who's more popular now?
I've been listening to some of Paul's records...
I'm starting to think he really is dead

Can't think of what song it is, but I'll have the tune stuck in my head all day now. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

What's kind of funny is that I never heard about Lennon's claim until I heard that Larry Norman song back in the '80's, and did some research on it. But I think you're right; he wasn't necessarily boasting, just commenting on misplaced priorities. I don't think things have changed much since then.
