Pepsi had been gaining ground on Coke with their blind taste test thing, so Coke changed their product to taste more like Pepsi. That brought the real Coke fan base out of the woodwork and forever quashed Pepsi's whole taste test game. No, I don't have any proof, just the memory of how similar the taste of New Coke was to Pepsi, and the fact that you didn't hear much about taste tests from Pepsi after that.

Re: Obama Reverses Course on Orlando 911 Transcripts

What I don't understand is why Obama and others in the government bureaucracy and in the media keep referring to the terrorists as "ISIS" or worse, "ISIL"; both refer to them on *their* terms, as the Islamic State. If what Obama keeps telling us is true -- that they do not represent Islam -- then why keep referring to them using the term? Daesh is a more representative name, and a name they hate. The unmentioned problem here is that the errors with any product like that can swing both ways, leading to false negatives and false positives. If the statistics say that 95% of those who tested positive for trisomy 2, how many of those were false positives, and aborted perfectly normal children? I guess that's something we will never know this side of heaven.

Re: Mac as a Metaphor

Sorry, but if that's what's behind the title of your article, it's a very flawed metaphor.

Re: Mac as a Metaphor

Old news. The Mac OS is not perfect by any means, but compared to the competition, there is just no comparison. My opinion is not the result of any cultish devotion, but rather from many years of experience with both platforms in the real world.

Re: Mac as a Metaphor

Your line about market share being the main reason Macs have the advantage over Windows machines is pure bologna. Market share has absolutely nothing to do with it. It's estimated that almost 20% of all computers in use today run some flavor of Mac OS X. Consider also that the first hacker to cause a serious virus infection on the Mac OS will instantly become the king of hackers; that itself is incentive enough for them to try and keep trying. Also consider how long ago Apple released Mac OS X (1999) and how many significant virus threats there are that affect Mac computers (pretty much zero.) The only malware threats that have affected Macs are worms and trojans, which aren't truly viruses. Trojans & worms require the user to be duped into authorizing them to be installed, but a PC user can unknowingly infect the computer simply by visiting a website with a malicious ad in a sidebar. That fact alone is enough for me to have only Mac computers in my home. I am a political conservative, and am in my early 50's.

I provide IT support for a small company running an 80/20 mix of PCs and Macs, and I spend easily 99% of my time on the PCs. Despite the diligent use of antivirus software and strict firewall & internet filtering policies, the PC users still manage to get their computers seriously infected on a far too regular basis. The Macs don't even run any antivirus software. Are Macs perfect for everything? No, but for the vast majority of people using a computer at home, they will do everything users need them to do with much less trouble from malware.

I agree with Kansas Gal; this article shouldn't even be on AT. I come here for thoughtful commentary on politics, not brainless opining about computer OS preferences.

Re: 6 Secrets of Supermarkets

The local grocery chain (HyVee) has several stores near where I live; there is one store that I use most often, but end up stopping at any of the others if I happen to have an errand that takes me near it. Each visit drives me just a little bit closer to the edge, because the layout of each store is completely unique. Zero commonality between them, other than the registers and Starbucks kiosk near the doors. And they do this intentionally too, figuring that it might improve my chances of buying something else if I dash in to buy milk and can't find it right away. Sorry, Mr. Marketing genius; your plan just had the opposite effect.

Re: Liberals Use Twitter Trend #ThingsJesusNeverSaid to Mock Christians On Easter

Another thing Jesus didn't say is to co-opt the government to take money from one group of people and give it to another.
