As for the CIA, I seem to recall that that same agency neglected to inform the FBI of the arrival in San Diego in 2000 of three of the major perps of 9/11 because of some sort of turf battle, which the imposition of a "firewall" between the two agencies imposed in the mid '90s had facilitated.

The CIA loves to keep its little intel nuggets to itself lest the FBI actually take action on actionable intelligence. [I worked extensively with the CIA overseas during two assignments in the FS and a bit with the FBI after 9/11.]

Another eff-up by the Feds, which seem to distribute their colossal mess-ups between the feckless FB( and the cockamamie CIA, regardless of who is POTUS.

[BTW, the Morrissey article linked to this post blames the FBI, perhaps erroneously, given that the CIA would have been monitoring the communications to Al Qaeda from overseas in the normal order of business. The reluctance of the CIA to divulge its intel with the FBI I mentioned above.]

Dave, I respect your right to an opinion and I fall somewhere between your view and Kathy's. I', pro-abortion up to the point where a mental synapse is possible for the fetus, the point at which I see human life as starting, then I become pro-life. However, I cannot condone your reference to Kathy as an "unnatural creature" anymore than I could condone her saying the same of you. This label is uncalled for, and I think you should rephrase it. I would have no problem had you said "an overly partisan progressive creature", but she is no more unnatural than you are.

DrElephant---The libtard cadres must have been whining to SNL about the many put-downs of Dear Leader and the DNCTV types---last night they had an unfunny put-down of Greta Van and also had a View put-down of Elizabeth Hasselbeck, so the flak-catchers must have been heavily mau-maued over the last few weeks.

SNL put-downs of Barney eFF and Mad Queen Nancy are even better than their Dear Leader slams. Sadly, the Fox send-up wasn't even close enough to the real thing to be recognizable. And The Daily Show and Colbert are trying to outdo themselves in Glenn Beck parodies.

Of course, Stewart might be whistling past the graveyard a bit, although Colbert is still trying [sometimes] to be even-handed in his slams...

No use making fun of MS...oops, DNCTV. It's not watched enough to even rate with the unwatched PBS Bill Moyers' weekly agitprop three-minute hates.

Fox uses the correct term of "Muslim terrorist" and doesn't condescend to their viewers as does CNN and the unwatched MSNBC.

Fox haters are grinding their teeth down to tiny nubs by now! Evening cable ratings consistently have them surpassing all other primetime cable news "outlets" which peddle PC drivel by more than the rest combined, not counting Glenn Beck who outdraws everybody but Oprah and would surpass her if he were on a primetime slot.

FoxNEWS has broken numerous stories of incompetence,malfeasance, and downright corruption by this White House and points out frequently its ridiculous mistatements for the outright lies that they are. Having worked for a few PR firms, for some news organizations and also having worked in political campaigns, it's easy to see that MSNBC is a PR firm for the DNC, and the three old-time networks are also almost always repeating DNC talking points. CNN gives less slavish adulation to the Obama Chicago-style political machine. Fox does point out absurd statements by Obama such as his claiming to be unaware that ACORN was receiving government funds [he was a counselor and advisor to ACORN for several years during the nineties] while the PR cable & nets accept every mistatement & outright lie, as the ACORN statement above was, at face value.

Thanks, Austin, for pointing out this FEC policized law case. It seems that the old "tyranny of the majority" might not be around for long, though.

I have to disagree. A minimum of 30% of the district would have voted for a napkin if it was in the race as a Republican. Almost no one who would have voted for Owens switched to Hoffman when Scozzafava left the race, but apparently quite a few who would have voted for Scozzafava changed to Owens. In all likelyhood Scozzafava would have won, with every vote Hoffman got plus some that Owens got.

Hoffman didn't need name recognition in such a staunchly Republican area, he just needed to pull a few votes from the undecided column and that is where it all fell apart. Losing a district that is more than 50% Republican is a loss for Rebublicans/ win for Democrats. Hoffman did what no Republican in 100 years has managed, lose.

Deborah Feyerick of CNN had it right. Hoffmann came from zero-name recognition and single-digit poll numbers in the last month to almost pulling off a victory, losing by a whisker to a combo of a corrupt Repub RINO [who siphoned off the 5% Hoffmann needed to win] and a Dem Plattsburgh lawyer with 85% out-of-district funding. CNN isn't usually in the vanguard of political analysis, but Debbie got this one right. She noted that the Blue Dogs across the country will take another hard look because of Hoffmann's experience.

Nancy P. is suffering from advanced dementia, or perhaps botox side-effects, when she calls yesterday a win for Democrats. If she'd graduated from high school, she might have heard of a Pyhrric victory.

Actually, it would be interesting to make an attempt at journalism, which is evidently forbidden at this fishwrap for leftist boondoggles, and find out how much from Owens' [who is incidentally a Plattsburgh lawyer who is also a "carpetbagger" in the terms employed by the fishwrappers here] contributors comes from out of district, or even out of state.

When Dear Leader sends his resident court jester up to Watertown, you know that it's tight-sphincter time in the Oval Office and Environs. How much cred will happy Joe have if Hoffmann wins after he can't fill a school hall and CNN calls him "Former Vice President Biden?"

Most Tea Party people I know in FL in a wide range of social contacts are not for Crisp, a certifiable RINO. Many of them are Blue Dog Dems or Independents like myself, and relatively few voted for RINO McCain without holding their nose.

The choice between Dems and Repubs is usually between Tweedledumb and Tweedledumber, with the T-dumber depending on location and context. Sen. Nelson, for instance, has a single-digit IQ despite being a former astronaut----braindeath occurred perhaps prematurely in his case. I voted against Jeb Bush for Gov & for the Dem in '02, e.g., so every case has its unique circumstances.

McChrystal was named as McKiernan's replacement more than a year ahead of schedule. That must have been at Petraeus's recommendation.

"Of course he is a smart President, but to be fair, the act that he follows is really not much competition in the smarts department." is not only off-topic, but inaccurate, as the guts to go with Petraeus with the Surge was against nearly unanimous opposition. Opposition which had effusively supported his earlier Operation Cobra II. Until the going got rough.

But as a participant in the SouthEastAsian War Games, I can recall when LBJ would talk daily to Westmoreland, as would GHWB often do to Gen. Schwartzkopf where I also was in the war zone. As TSteele says, it's a matter of style with Obama, and he has other fish to fry, but he'd better watch out or he'll get into a situation where he tries to do it on the cheap, and as Cobra II indicates, that can be disastrous. Strange that Hillary Clinton should voice her opinion about Gen. McChrystal, and totally inappropriate.
