And he won't sign on to the bill to audit the FED. He's one of the biggest party-liners in congress. That statement is ridiculous. Political intervention from both parties fostered Wall St. greed and a herd mentality. The result was a belief that houses and stocks would always rise in value. Once again, reality rears it's ugly head. Now the unions, just like the bankers and their political buddies, are going to fight it with every dollar your grandkids will ever have.

Re: 2010 GOP gubernatorial prospects begin ‘trial balloon’ phase of campaign

And how disappointing the GOP was on this issue. What??? I'm hardly a Chet Culver fan but at least he understands Econ 101.If losing some government employees is going to seriously affect the economy then there are too many govt' employees. As hard-hearted as it may sound, these workers don't create wealth, their paychecks come from someone who did. Taxes and spending should have been cut long ago when we began losing our industrial base but the only tax cuts were for moving the jobs overseas. Better late than never but probably already too late.

Re: Quad City alt-weekly switches to bi-weekly

Go River Cities Reader! Bigger government or warmongering. What a choice. Reed sure turned me off with that crap. Like Harkin doesn't have enough negatives, Reed has to spout this neocon drivel? Harkin , Grassley and Braley are all responsible for the mess we are in. They all advocate policies that will make the situation worse. WHAT?? Show me a free market anywhere on this planet. The "regulation" needed is TRANSPARENCY. Make the banks disclose the crap on their books and make them value this garbage fairly. Banks (et al) don't trust each other and won't lend because they are all hiding this junk and the suspension of "mark to market" accounting will certainly exacerbate the mistrust. If this is the best opinion on economics that Hubler can come up with then he's ignorant or,more likely, pandering to the clueless voter. And ,of course, the ultimate blame lies with the clueless voters.

Re: Loebsack backs bailout with reluctance

No part of this problem lies with congress, Mr. Loebsack? That this problem comes as a surprise is hard to believe with the amount of information available and even discussed in the House (ala Ron Paul ) months and even years ago. That these problems weren't dealt with in a timely fashion is a condemnation of BOTH major political parties. Look at the biggest contributors to either major candidate. The same names we've been seeing daily in the financials. Smells like "conflict of interest" to me. Or what's called lobbying these days.

Re: Iowa Dems support bailout, GOP continues opposition

So it takes 4.6 bil. to buy Braley.
