Chandler's thinking is typical "flavor of the month" stuff--IU is down this season, so the glory days are gone. Fashionable, but pretty unimaginative. This argument would have looked silly a year ago, and it will look silly a year from now.
But, his own logic is faulty--IU is a "backwater" meaning, I guess, that it's hard to recruit nationally. But he acknowledges that Knight mainly recruited regionally. I won't go into what IU would look like this year if only a few of Indiana's blue chippers had been landed.

The first elbow wasn't intentional, and the last (attempted) elbow removed any doubt there may have been about the incident with Suton. It doesn't matter because the last incident in and of itself was enough to warrant punishment. Five game suspension and a personal apology from Dumes to Michigan and Michigan's team.

Nobody needed to worry about a post-season ban this year. IU's program completely crumbled over the last 10 months. That was probably enough for the NCAA. At least it's done and we start from right here.

Despite the fact that he was highly sought after as a high school athlete, by the time those teams (74-75 & 75-76) started getting attention, he was disparaged by a lot of the press, mainly because he wasn't a great scorer.
But, that wasn't his role on those teams, which had so much offensive firepower. I'm glad to see him get the recognition he deserves here for being the leader and floor general of one of the best (if not the best) college teams ever.

Well, this guy's got a million dollar talent with a 5 cent head. If Crean gets him in line, he has the possibility of being great. But he's piece of work. A big piece of work.

Sampson lands a nice job in Milwaukee, and Crean gets to mop up the mess he left at IU. There's something terribly wrong with this system.

It would have to depend on what exactly the reason was for the dismissal. If it's just a matter of a rule violation and they regret it, then they should be allowed to return. The basketball program has been known to give rule violators a break . . .

He may well have NBA talent, but I didn't see much of it during the handful of games I got to watch. After the start of conference play, his FG percentage was barely 40 and his three point shooting percentage was 28. In March, when the games really count, those numbers were 33% FG and 13% from three. These are numbers against mostly what was a mediocre conference this year. I don't even want to think about his pathetic turn over and assist numbers. I, for one, won't miss seeing him drive into the lane to have the ball stripped clean before he even got a shot off.

I can't blame the kids, because they're kids. Sampson is the adult, and he blew the best gig of his life.
It was a hard season. But, you can't keep a good program down. It may take a few years, but we'll be back.
