This is a fantastic idea! It will be of monumental importance because there are so many smaller businesses who are missing out on the much larger picture that the internet can give them!

Something you might want to touch on is search engine optimization as well. I consult heavily in the area and would love to give a hand if you thought is was worth it.

It is one thing to have a website and have great content, but search engines need to get what they want in order to index it effectively!

Great thoughts Cristina! I find that the networking /marketing events that I attend are 100% more beneficial when I ask more questions than I answer. People generally like talking about themselves and their ideas. And once you get the know what they do, you can refer customers to them (when appropriate).

It is rare that someone takes a genuine interest in what you are doing, so there is a better chance they will remember you! More times than not, by just listening, you get more referrals than you could ask for. It is all about branding yourself AND your business.

I live in the US and it seems to me that there are way more bloggers in other parts of the world (luckily, written in English). I just started about a month ago and I love to see new people on my site. Your layout rocks by the way!

This happens all through business. One person invents something and then another company patents it.

In truth, it shouldn't be the case, Dave Winer's lawyers should have been competent enough to tell him he had to patent it. Then he could claim exclusivity.

Now that is a long list. A couple other good ones are Comodo (antivirus, spyware, firewall, backup), Hamachi (virtual LAN), and DVD Decryptor (to get at the dvd's that want to be difficult).

Great post! Resizing images and taking notes can be a pain if you don't have the right tools. Google has a pretty cool little notebook application as well. Also, you should check out the performancing plugin for firefox. It is a nice blogging tool!

They firewall is really nice but in order to run a network you have to play with the restrictions. The antivirus is really good though, way better than norton, etc. It is comparable if not better than AVG

I tried, but there is just so much inconsistency. All of the programs say that they are graphical, then you install them and it is a tiny fraction of what you expected..

Which has me thinking.. I have been thinking about starting a wiki for a while now. I have a lot of readers who get into freeware and open source. What do you think about starting a free ware wiki? There are several on the internet now, but none of them are very simple to navigate and most of them just have a listing of the software and there links. We could write reviews and experiences.

Its just an idea. I am writing a book and I though of putting a wiki up for that too..

Let me know what you think!

Check out the 'search status' extension for firefox. It will display the pagerank of whichever page you are viewing. Its just a nice tool. I think you were just assigned that PR, or I would have caught it before today. Maybe you did something good when you redid your theme? Different keywords, meta tags, etc.

How true. This only ever happened to me once and it was an old pc. I just rebuilt it, thankfully! With that said, I encourage everyone reading this to make backups of your data..

I just left a clients office where he sacrificed 1.5 years worth of client information because he didn't back up his server!! Not a good place to be...

I completely agree with you Carol. I just had a conversation with my professor and business mentor yesterday about a client turning down use of a google feature in his project, and that was his reason. Google is getting too big and recording everything.. How can you trust someone like that?

It gets pretty ugly when you don't consume carbs. I went on a modified low carb diet, and loss a ton of muscle mass in the process. I was dieting for a competition and by the end, I loss almost 70 lbs.. Placed in the competition, but it took a while to get the muscle back..

If you were to site down and look at how many rights you give up in clicking through a lot of software's EULAs, it would startle you!! It is ridiculous how many software companies abuse the fact that people just click through the installation screens..

I absolutely agree.. When it comes to hiring someone, a lot of companies are focused on promoting a team atmosphere. They can train the employee later. College degrees are a great indicator of how dedicated a person can be, but likability and charm go a long long way..

It could be a case that the bios needs to be updated in the computer. Carol, is it a store bought pc or one that you built? If its one you built, what is the motherboard?

If the options are in the bios, the way you change the voltage is with the VCore attribute.

I use a zone alarm on on all my pc's, but at the head of the network I have a old computer that I set up as a firewall. That way if anything tries to get in, they just see the old computer. To buy hardware firewalls would be expensive, but you can set up an old comp pretty cheaply.

Great tip. I have seen a lot of people who want to link to irrelevant sites just to get the PR. Finally, google will be checking that. The 'nofollow' tag is definately a great tool.

You are absolutely right. Google is amassing a wealth of data, and has already been asked to release search results. Whether you have an account or not with them, you can be associated by ip address and sometimes mac address. Even if you delete that cookie that google saves, when you go back to the site, google will simply reassociate your pc with the old search results. I strongly believe that AOL is the first in a string of these releases.

Browsing anonymously is slow, like you said. Another place to go for information about the topic is eff.org. They have a browsing utility named Tor.

I have heard researchers say that as much as 15% of China's GDP is generated from patented and copyrights material which was been 'cloned.' It makes sense for the player maker to make smaller versions though.

The interesting thing is that they don't push real hard if a domainer has a knockoff of there name, like gogle.com. I am not fortunate to be one of the domain name owners, but as long as you are not playing off of the google site, they don't bother you..
