Another one is a system I kind of invented on the Productivity podcast a year ago. We call it the Productivity Buddy system. Every Monday morning at 10am my productivity buddy and I have a scheduled phone call about how our weekly GTD review is going. And during the week, if I feel stuck, I can call him and spend ten minutes on the phone with him talking me down off the roof. If it works for AA, it can work for productivity too I figured. <br><a href="http://productivity.thepodcastnetwork.com/2006/09/08/the-productivity-show-027-introducing-the-productivity-buddy-system/" rel="nofollow">http://productivity.thepodcastnetwork.com/2006/...</a>

Re: Dr. Stewart Friedman on &#8220;Time Bind&#8221; vs. Psychological Interference and More

Yeah it always seemed to me, even before I quit my corporate job to start my own thing, that the whole "work/life balance" concept was a bit wonky. Even when I was doing the corporate drain rat thing, my work *was* my life, at least for 80 waking hours a week. I quit, started a media company, and for the last four years have worked from home, loving every minute of it. Your book has made it even more fun, so thanks Tim. I've outsourced about 10 hours a week to my VA and it's exciting. I can now use that time to focus on bigger opportunities for the business rather than doing "busy" work.

Re: Napoleon on News and Information Management (Plus: Video on Outsourcing E-mail and More)

One of my fav Napoleon quotes is "Glory may be fleeting but obscurity is forever." It's a little understood fact that for the first 12 months of US "independence", your flag was actually the BEIC flag. <br><a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_the_United_States#First_flag" rel="nofollow">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_the_United...</a>

Re: Declaring Your Indepdendence

So it's actually a celebration of the day a corporation bought itself a country.

Re: Declaring Your Indepdendence

@Chris Cree <br>While I'm not going to claim the BEIC story is official history, it has always struck me as interesting that a new nation would adopt the flag of the company they were supposedly protesting against. When else in history has a country adopted the flag/logo/brand of a corporation? Why would a new country, founded in revolution, adopt the flag of the instrument of their recent oppression? <br>Again, I'm not taking potshots at American history, just asking what I think are interesting questions.

Re: Declaring Your Indepdendence

Jon &amp; Chris, there isn't any speculation involved. The US flag was almost IDENTICAL to the BEIC flag. This can't be taken lightly. Especially in those days of yore, a flag was a symbol - of who you were as a people and what you stood for. And the Founding Fathers of the United States selected, as their first flag, the flag of the British East India Company, an extremely corrupt and malignant organisation. It begs the question - why? One minute they are dumping BEIC's tea into the water, the next they are taking their flag as their own? You can't easily dismiss it.

Re: Bacn- A New Internet Term

Vincent: Want some bacon?<br>Jules: No man, I don't eat pork.<br>Vincent: Are you Jewish?<br>Jules: Nah, I ain't Jewish, I just don't dig on swine, that's all.<br>Vincent: Why not?<br>Jules: Pigs are filthy animals. I met with Sean Alexander, Keith Ballinger and some of the guys from the WMP team back in Feb 2005 before I hooked up with you and Buzz at Demo. That was a full 4 months before iTunes had podcast support. I was pretty convinced then that WMP would have podcasting support before long. 15 months later - nada. Quite disappointing. I agree with Todd - this is going to slow down podcast adoption. Having it in iTunes is great, but 50 million iPod owners is nothing compared to Microsoft's reach.

Re: Correcting the Record about Microsoft

From one professional podcaster to a-soon-to-be-nother, congrats buddy. And the example I've often used is to point to hollywood. Nine times out of ten I'd rather watch a film with a great story but basic production values over... the latest Michael Bay film (whatever that happens to be). And let's face it - the reason podcasting has exploded isn't because we were all sitting home thinking "gee the production values on mainstream media plain suck". It was a lack of interesting content. Now, since I started G'Day World a couple of years ago I've upgraded my mic from the $20 headset to something that cost me slightly more... and I bought some additional equipment as well. But mainly because it saves me significant post-production time (GIGO). Someone told me recently how Rocketboom's success has to do with the fact they shoot it (apparently) on HD. I told him I couldn't tell the difference on my iPod.

Re: Peter says podcasting is inefficient

we used to hear this kind of argument a lot more 12 - 18 months ago but I haven’t heard it for ages. I had assumed most people now realized that comparing podcasts to blogs was like comparing radio to a newspaper. They are different mediums servicing different needs. And yet you never hear people arguing that radio is inefficient and we should all just read newspapers. Maybe there were people making that argument back in 1920, when Westinghouse’s KDKA-Pittsburgh broadcast the Harding-Cox election returns and began their daily schedule of radio programs?

Re: Why I love Automattic

no doubt about it, I notice when Akismet is down too! I bought my first Macbook Pro about a month ago. And while I love the hardware design, and certainly don't hate OSX, I did a podcast recently saying how, after a few weeks of using it, I didn't see what the big fuss was about. I don't think OSX is that much different to Vista. Both have features the other doesn't. Both have their own problems. The funny thing I've found is that since buying my Mac, all of the Mac fanboys who have been ragging on me for years are now saying "oh yeah, lots of problems. This sucks (eg Finder), that sucks (dragging apps to Trash doesn't really delete the app), but give it SIX MONTHS, and you'll love it."<br><br>Again - I *LOVE* the hardware. Sweet as. But my feeling is that Microsoft have pretty much caught up on the OS front. Of course, on the MBP I can run both Vista and OSX, which perhaps gives it a slight advantage over my Lenovo desktop. Now I have the best of both worlds. Sweet hardware and two operating systems.

Re: Dear Jeff Bezos (one-week Kindle review)

I'm so disappointed by this. If you keep it up every year, eventually, someone may get it right. I don't think the model of a group of podcasters getting together to share traffic, techniques, contacts and experience is flawed at all. I suspect a few networks took a whole bunch of money which they are struggling to show a return on, but that, my friend, is a whole other story. Bad business decisions does not always equal a bad business model.

Re: New Media Predictions For 2008

Well I was going to suggest we make it interesting and put a year of your salary against a year of mine on the bet that we'll be around a year from now, but you've just taken the steam out of that fight. :-)

Re: Twitter dynamics: unfollowing guykawasaki, Scobleizer and cameronreilly

yeah I agree with you on this, that would be a good feature. But then again, I guess unfollowing someone (like me) who twits too much for your tastes is probably the cleanest solution. In my defense though, I usually only turn twitter on once or twice a day, and usually have a bunch of people to reply to in one hit. The other 23 hours of the day you won't hear much from me at all. :-)

Re: You&#8217;re fat, stop that&#8230; somehow?

I smell a great business opportunity here Nat. Not bloody likely. I&#39;ve been a big user of e-books for ten years, Microsoft Reader mostly, and the experience has a long way to go. A specific device which can sustain a decent charge (long enough for a trans-Pacific flight) for a few hundred bucks sounds pretty good to me.
