I've felt this but never heard anyone say it. Good one !

Saw the movie "The Fountain" recently. I think you would love it. And try not to read about the movie plot before you see it.

The movie is one my favorites now and I think you might especially love the score !

Singularity, conceptually in this context, IMO, would be the state at which the physical self can no longer cope up with the increasing mental prowess. Why ? Because of the rate at which we gain knowledge, other bodily functions have to necessarily cease to perform their duties. But isn't that the exact idea of evolution ? One aspect of the body improving and changing as nature requires, for the sake of survival. Isn't all such transformations singular by nature ? If this is true, I will accept that when we transfer the human consciousness to a machine, and exist without the body, we have reached singularity.

Is it Scientific snake-oil ? Probably Yes.

We are in no position to understand and talk about what the human consciousness is made of. Or at least not me. May be it is just random chemical impulses in the brain working on a pattern, which would be rendered meaningless without the body itself. Or may be it does have a different meaning and the Yogis were right all along.

The article is insightful and insane at the same time and it brings about thoughts that leads me to different conclusions every time I think about it. But I do feel that we are getting ahead of ourselves in thinking that human consciousness is transferable to machines so that we could attain immortality. It is not as simple as a heart transplant in concept or even a brain transplant. The idea is far more subtle in its complexity than just getting away from one's body and conquering death.

Tech audience and day to day people alike can use the tools i mentioned. They are not as complicated as you might think. I understand that the focus is not on creating the charts themselves but lies in the framework of sharing and tagging data sets. Its just that i feel it is a mere combo of what excel and flickr can do. And that bugs me.

Succinctly put. I had an argument with my roommate earlier about what is Good and Evil. He fails to see that it is the society that determines morality and that every action is perfect as it is. It cannot be done any other way. I guess my mind is not mature enough to put these thoughts into words yet to make someone understand.

Mahesh, not quite sure why this is so exciting. Hasn't dundas chart and similar such libraries been around for a while already that can do this and maybe even 2D. Not to mention, softwares like MATLAB and OCTAVE (opensource) can produce some fantastic 1D, 2D results and provide great customizations. These softwares can also be hosted on a web server and can take several different formats. Infact, you can simply write your own script to handle your data; A custom provided parser if you will !

Well, I guess there could be a disconnect in in my understanding of the features in Swivel though. My 2 cents !
