in What Does Your Little Voice Say? on Carrie and Danielle
My Mom's voice says: Let go, but be careful.
My voice says: Be careful, but let go.
I'm learning how to listen to my own voice and (sorry Mom) not that of my Mom - the perpetual worrier. I love her very very much but if it were up to her, I'd probably be back on the farm in Alberta, eating perogies. Instead I have just gotten a promotion to Editor-in-Chief of a magazine in California, and am discussing the serious possibility of a year sabbatical in France with my husband.
I will still visit Mom, but I've let go (and am careful)...

in are you in the harem? on style observer
Hmmm. I was going to say "Hell to the no" but I looked through some comments and might reconsider. At least reconsider them on other people - the 15 extra pounds I carry on my thighs and bum would make these a no-go for me. But I'm going to give them another shot. I saw them a lot in France last summer but just couldn't buy in to the trend...

in What kind of clutter is in your life? on Carrie and Danielle
Definitely home clutter. I suffer from "stuff-itis", a word I made up for all the crap that surrounds me. Treatment consists of putting something away as I walk from room to room but it doesn't seem to help me really catch up. I do make inroads, but then it all starts again. Just too much crap. I am about to read the interview with Erin, and hope I can pick up some helpful hints!

in What’s the best relationship advice you’ve ever given or received? on Carrie and Danielle
I LOVE your answers, C&D! Excellent words of advice.
Kristin - I too looked up sagacious and LOVE that word! Thanks for that one.
Now, my advice. When I turned 30 in late December some nearly seven years ago, I had just broken up with a guy who flirted viciously online...he thought that it being online meant it wasn't cheating. I thought otherwise, and seeing as I had given him two chance before this, it was third time and he was out.
Spent Christmas and New Year by myself, with my cat. I thought, well, I'm okay being alone. This could be alright. Not the end of the world, and I really like my own company (to say nothing of the cat).
Then in early March for my radio travel series, I interviewed a woman who had put together a calendar of interesting facts and places in Alberta. We hit it off famously, and she told me her secret for her amazing relationship with her husband - when he pulls up in the driveway after a long day of work, her heart still skips a beat to see him coming.
The very next day I met the man of my dreams, and seven years later he's still that...and my heart still flutters when he comes home - from a trip or from a day at work.
It seems like simple advice, and like an "of course" thing...but the online cheater? I went through times where I couldn't care less if he came or went, but stayed with him - not sure why...convenience? Laziness? Thinking it would work itself out, or this was how it just was in a long-term relationship?
It's not that way at all...not when you've met the right person.

Not a fan! I am a huge fan of the original ones, but more for comfort than for style...I am sort of disappointed that they jumped on the gladiator bandwagon, too.

No! I don't like...
I don't like them for me, because I don't have the legs for them...but then again, I don't even like them for girls who do have the legs for them, like Rihanna or one of the Olsen twins...they're just overall not my cup of tea.

A bottle of moody red wine to share with my husband over a game of Scrabble...we do our best thinking then.

in How do you want to feel today? on Carrie and Danielle
I want to feel hopeful. With everything that has been happening in my life, and in the world (which I find myself very sensitive to), I just want to find a spark of hope. I am not completely without it, but I am wavering. I want to find hope that my ability, passion and effort will be enough to make my business succeed, that the incredible love I share with my husband will be all we need to successfully start our family and not experience such a devastating loss again. I want to find hope for the world.

in Creativity That Makes The Cut: An Interview with Editor-in-Chief of Orange Life Magazine, Susie Hutchinson on Carrie and Danielle
What a great interview - like a lot of articles in Orange Life Magazine, it leaves me wanting more. I'd really love to have a coffee with Susie and talk to her about the magazine's (and assume her) refreshing approach. Clearly readers were ready for less headlines like, "Get to Know His Erogenous Zones" or "Cellulite Cures That Work" and so congratulations and kudos to the magazine's growth and popularity.
As a writer (TamaraMedia.com), this is the sort of magazine I would love to write for.
I moved from Vancouver to southern California in January and am just now finding my creativity returning...maybe when I get back in March, I'll be ready to pitch!

in What’s your favourite magazine? on Carrie and Danielle
It's a three-way tie between Dwell for breathtaking homes and furnishings, Fast Company for the business/new media inspiration, and Wish, for home, fashion, food, and more. I miss Wish now that I am in the US, but when I move back in March it's the first subscription I'll start up again.

in What’s the best workshop or course you ever took? on Carrie and Danielle
A few years back I was awarded a CTV Fellowship to the Banff Television Festival. Winners got to participate in a session of roundtable workshops with production industry leaders and ask them questions, for advice, practice pitches, etc. I made some incredible connections and more importantly, gained insight into the world of production. Most importantly though, I gained confidence knowing that I fit into this world.
The second best course I took was Set Etiquette...it taught me how to act on set. It has helped me from when I was a television reporter in the news, television producer of a breakfast show, and as an extra on shows like the L-Word and Bionic Woman. I can sure see those people who didn't take the course, and have a feeling they won't be asked back!
Of course now the best course I could possibly take would be one on puppy obedience. How times have changed!

in What are you anticipating? on Carrie and Danielle
I am anticipating the day when I can earn a living from my web site. I have written and reported for years for media conglomerates who make a mint on advertising revenue, and the business model and proliferation of new media says I can do it myself.
I started the project with zest and fervor, and then my husband and I lost our son in a late-term stillbirth Talk about taking the wind of out my sales.
I feel life ebbing back into my body, home and soul. I am ready for it now. I need to do a little more work to get it where I want to be, but this is what I anticipate: daily blog posts and weekly video posts that entertain and inform people and help them make decisions as to how to spend their hard-earned money. Loads and loads of readers. A steady income from the efforts. The ability to work on my own schedule, from wherever I am...hubby and puppy alongside.
And being a contributing partner in our dream home, built with love from the ground up.
I can't wait!
