Understand. Here is a suggestion for your and many people's dilemma:

With diigo, not only you can bookmark, you can also add highlights, sticky notes and have interactions right on the webpage to enrich your browsing and organization experience. You can also simultaneously bookmark to several bookmarking sites – make it easy to have one single source without giving up other services. So it's not a competing but rather a complement service to delicious!

Diigo also really adds the "social" in social bookmarking and in a very meaningful way http://tinyurl.com/3soanp

By the way, delicious is the recipient of Blogger's choice Open Web Award in the social bookmarking category (congrats!) and Diigo just received the People's choice award. Again, quite a complement pair :-)

Indeed, Diigo groups is a great Collaborative Research Platform. Don't forget to explore many group features, such as group badge, linkrolls / tagrolls, group auto-post, plus the group tag dictionary that helps enforce tagging consistency within a group!

There are always more room for further improvements - should you have suggestions, please share them in our User Forums! We're always listening and working hard to make Diigo better and better.

Phil Glockner Thanks so much for stopping to comment, Maggie! You're right, I totally overlooked the Diigo user forum (http://groups.diigo.com/Diigo_HQ/forum) which is actually a standard Diigo Group that is set up specifically to discuss Diigo topics!

Glad you liked the review, if I did leave out a major bit of functionality, please let me know..

Phil Glockner Thanks for taking time out to comment here, Maggie! I've been enjoying using Diigo for most of the year now.

I agree that Diigo has a lot of unique features, and in fact it has been on my to-do list to write a primer like I have for FriendFeed and Digsby, among other products.

"Carpenter thinks Diigo isn’t about bookmarking for personal reference, but about using your shared content as a springboard for social interaction." I disagree.

Diigo is two services in one -- first and foremost, it’s a research and collaborative research tool. It’s also a knowledge-sharing community and social content site on the other hand.

In fact, it is completely ok to be anti-social on Diigo. In this “anti-social mode”, Diigo as simply a great research tool that can really enhance your productivity. Diigo’s advanced bookmarking functions: bookmark, highlight, annotate, forward, clippings, tagging, caching, groups, lists, plus a lot more, are all designed with personal productivity in mind to facilitate better ways of how to discover, process, manage, and share online information more productively and effectively.

Second, and more importantly, most of the “social” things happening on Diigo do not require any extra effort from you — they are just there to augment your information discovery and sharing. And of course, you can easily collaborate, share, and follow your friends / colleagues using many of the advanced collaboration features that Diigo offers.

mrshl I should emphasize that my problem isn't only with the downtime. It's also with the much slower speed at which I can access my bookmarks.

I'm hopeful you guys can address this issue, as its crucial to whether I can even use the service. Social capabilities are impressive, but I need quick, responsive reference to my bookmarks in order for your service to be useful.

As for your Firefox addon, I remember upgrading to Firefox 3 and checking whether your service was compatible. From what I remember, Delicious was faster in releasing a Firefox 3 compatible addon than you guys were. Perhaps I'm mistaken.

Either way, I have been testing your latest version, and it's still much slower than Delicious. Part of this, I know, is that the Delicious addon is using a client-site query to speed up searching while you guys are using the Web. Still, even for a Web query, the Diigo addon has been pretty slow.

Finally, as I said in the post, I REALLY want to like Diigo. But I keep running into bugs and performance issues. Iron those out, and I'll definitely give you another shot.

We are developing Diigo to scratch our personal itch - how to discover, process, manage, and share online information more productively and effectively. in Bye, bye Diigo on TechTicker
Mike,

Thanks for taking your time to give us some thoughtful feedback. It's very helpful, and we really appreciate it.

Some of our UI in these social functions are fairly "standard" design practices by other social media sites and we didn't try too hard to "reinvent the wheel" there (though most of diigo core functionalities are quite unique and nicely thought-out.) But I do see where some potential user error / confusion might be... We will be discussing internally to see ways to further improve the process.

Kate, Thanks for your sharing your support and enthusiasm for diigo. It's users like you that makes diigo community so special, and motivates us working even harder to make diigo the best it can be as both a great research tool & knowledge sharing community for all to enjoy!

cheers,

Maggie

in Bye, bye Diigo on TechTicker
Hi Mike,

It's very strange and sorry to hear the trouble that you're experiencing. We're perplexed. Shortly after Diigo V3's launch, thought we already have taken user feedback immediately, and properly re-designed the find / invite friend interface with both a "clear all / select all" checkbox, and even once one wishes to send invite by clicking "Add to friends" button, there will also be another confirmation pop-up box to reminder user to confirm their action:

Please see:
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3181/2721665398_...

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3175/2721664212_...

This kind of confirmation pop-up reminder also appears at registration and invitation area.

Please kindly advise where you have experienced the difficulty (ie. auto-sending invites.) In case there be any oversight on our part, we will also appreciate knowing, so that we can take immediate attention.

Diigo is a responsible company where we try to embrace and be quite responsive to our community users feedback. It's our sincere desire to create a valuable knowledge sharing community designed with productivity and collaboration in mind.

We hope you wouldn't mind assisting us to identify the issue, so that we can continue making diigo better and better, and hope we can welcome you back to the community!
