in WARNING: AMC theaters are running FAKE IMAX's and charging $5 extra for a slightly bigger screen. Boycott IMAX, AMC, and Regal. Don't let them fool you. on azizisbored
Okay, that's freaky. I'm from the east coast. I was in Burbank on the 11th on business. In the afternoon, I went to see Star Trek in your theater (non-IMAX). Half way through, I had to take a leak so badly that I had to go in the middle of old-Spock's explanation of the planet exploding. At the end, I snuck into the IMAX screening and happened to walk in right at the same part I missed. First thing I thought when I walked in was, "This screen doesn't look like an IMAX screen. I've been to the one in Lincoln Square, NYC."

Maybe I sat right next to you?

BiffWebster I love how there are so few honest people left in this world so much that a person has no problem stating that they snuck in.

I'm right with you. The "Hot & Cold" routine should probably have been saved for the finale. It would have sealed their win. I think that MTV is going to go with a girl crew this year (please, don't believe any shows that say the audience decides in the vote ... ain't the case), but they DO deserve to win. I'm a fan of their attitude on the floor. They're the real deal.

Ha, yeah. I sorta saw this coming. When I've recommended this, it's been as a "see what great things people are saying about [FILL IN THE BLANK]." Sometimes, human filters are okay. That's why you can paint over graffiti. :)

in The Tricky Path of Brand Relationships on Chris Brogan
I hear your argument, but I think that with celebrity endorsements, there's an understanding that consumers know that they're being paid. And having been in on those negotiations, I know that -- by and large -- celebrities don't just endorse any old thing. We've had many turn down endorsement/spokesperson opportunities based on principle, dislike, conflict-of-interest, etc. For instance, celebs who are spokespersons for pharma companies usually have a personal connection to the drug, disease, whatever.

There's such a strong bond of trust placed on a non-solicited, non-paid endorsement by Joe and Jane Public. You feel like you're getting the real scoop. However, in your case, Chris, you're moving into that celebrity realm (seriously), so a paid endorsement by you, goes with a certain understanding of trust and knowing the source. You've built up that trust, so if you truly endorse something -- paid or not -- I feel you're being honest, because you've built up that trust with me ... more so than Paris Hilton!

Amen to that. And let's not forget the smaller carbon footprint you're leaving by taking the train. Look at these CO2 figures from Europe:

in The Kinds of Products I Want to Touch in 2009 on Chris Brogan
A former client of mine, Tele Atlas, does this really cool thing. It's called the LBS (Location-Based Services) Innovator Series. They challenge developers in the GPS world to create new mapping applications and award the winners with cash prizes to fund their efforts. One of last year's winners was making an app that identified products you shot with your iPhone to let you know where you can buy it. Not sure if that, specifically, turned into the Google app, which is pretty cool.

in Who Cares Advertising on Chris Brogan
Seriously, man. You hit the nail on the head. I'm sure you've developed that brain filter that doesn't even see these words and phrases anymore? Like the learned ability to view Web pages without even digesting the banner ads. Oops, did I say that?

in Ebay Customer Service uses the community to find answers, so where’s the service? on Dave Delaney : Dave Made That
I do from time to time. I've not tried anything to crazy when it comes to extensive HTML in the description. I'm of the school that if the item listing looks fairly basic, then it's most likely just an individual user trying to sell a thing. When it looks like a corporate Web site, I stay away, because I know I'm probably not getting a deal.

Dave Delaney That's a good point, I'm of that mind too. The only reason why I needed to
use HTML was to share the video which featured the item in it. Otherwise,
the explanation just would not be enough.

Cheers.

Dave Delaney Great to hear from you. Yes, it's pretty crazy. When you read through it
you'll see how many times I had to repeat the question. I even provided
screen shots of examples of what I was trying to achieve, so that I was
certain I was being clear. I don't know if this is the result of outsourcing
to poorly trained staff, or simply poorly trained staff.

I highly doubt I'll get an answer from Ebay.

Do you still use Ebay?

Mayor,

How true. And so heartfelt. I'm happy to hear about what's going on in your life, good or bad. That's a part of us. The yang to our yin. I'm with you all the way on your thoughts ... eh, except one -- Superman is not human.

Best
