in About the Swiss Blog Awards (SBAW) on Climb to the Stars

and since i already know that i won't win any popularity contests in romandie anytime soon, let me just add this: i claim that had you, stephanie booth, spent not even half the time you have by now spent to critisise us to promote the swiss blog awards instead, we would look at a very different picture and have several romandie bloggers nominated. i am 100% sure of that. i know you dont like to hear it, but this was our design, by choice and after much scrutiny we went for a bottom up model.

in About the Swiss Blog Awards (SBAW) on Climb to the Stars

the organising comitee has always talked about this in terms of work-in-progress. an important part of our plan was always to evaluate everything after the first edition was over. bertrand delacretaz has taken on the responsibility to design this evaluationprocess.

why did the swiss blog awards not manage to get the romandie involved? a very interesting question. most likely it will be an interplay of a number of factors that lead to this outcome. what we are saying now is, let us not jump to conclusions.

we also pointed out the obvious, that very few romandie bloggers promoted or even talked about the awards. we did so after quite a few people, and you very much included steph, had already started to attack us, and in no gentle terms. we did so after everybody and their dog in romandie seemed to already have made up their mind that there was only one reason that lead to this disaster, and that reason was the shortcomings of the organisers. pointing fingers at us.

let us keep things in perspective, for thsi first edition of the award we designed it in a certain way, declaring this to be an experiment, a thesis, a work-in-progress. we were convinced it could work. as it turns out it only partially worked. let us now evaluate it and look at it in as broad a manner as possible. then we will draw our conclusions. thats what we proposed all along.

in Blog list now allows entries without feed URL - Patrice's Weblog on Patrice's Weblog
a big round of applause. i am totally into it as i am always against definitions of media that are based solely on technical features. i personally like the homebrews. i think they are cool. and i supsect we will see more and more of those as all the IT departments of companies start to build their own blogs CMS. biggest most recent example: virus.ch where the blog does not have xml. yet. and i do say yet. i already told them they need that. as i am sure did others and kevin is on it.

plus, with this new nofeed rule we give people incentive to upgrade their softwares. we can also bug them about it. whereas if they simply won't appear on the list we never see them. or well, the admins do, but nobody else.
