We memcached some internal API stuff about a month ago at b5media.com, and it drastically improved things. DB load was slashed by 2/3. I'm looking forward to caching more stuff!

I'd suggest building packages out of libevent, memcached, and the PECL module to make it easier to manage your servers. My blog has some links on the latter, libevent ships with a .spec file, and memcached is only a couple of files.

That's odd. If the column is set to auto_increment, a value of 0 in that field means "next value". Sounds like the table is not being created correctly.

FWIW, when using mysqldump I do

mysqldump --opt

never failed for me.

Air Canada? Chic? It's a big PVR that's not very good. The last time I watched a movie on it, it had chinese subtitles. The in flight entertainment system may be better than what you get in the States, but the staff are rude and the service is lousy. West Jet has live satellite TV in every seat, and they're pleasant to deal with.

Blogs, no. But "Ask Mr. DNS" is a brilliant site. The same guy also did the O'Reilly "Bind DNS cookbook" which is also a great one to have.

Speaking only for myself, I'm fairly agnostic, but I find myself agreeing with a lot that is said from the Republicans. Not because "praise Jeeeeeeesus!", but because I think it is ultimately the better decision for the society. I don't say everything is right (there must be some way to offer access to health care without imposing punitive taxes like we have in Canada), but I certainly don't dismiss their ideas because they smell Christian.

Oh well, back to reading stuff on web performance, which is what I originally came here for :)

I checked the NANOG list for those days and nothing pops up. The weekly routing reports for the week before and after don't show anything drastically different either.

I'm curious how they measure those statistics, though.

I just got a snagit license because the product has been incredibly helpful for creating documentation. I'd love to be able to do the same thing for video.
