in Nine’s last quarter crap-tacular on Boxcutters - An Australian TV Podcast
Ten has picked up Flight of the Conchords, so it'll be 50/50 whether it stays in a good timeslot, or gets put down in the Friday Night Death Slot.

And the new Ten-HD channel that'll be launching in December sounds excellent! Hopefully this'll mean that season two of Torchwood will get a better run on Ten-HD than it did on the main channel! Seven's planning to launch a multi-channel, too.

Exclusive/differing/compelling content (like ABC2, and Seven and Ten's upcoming channels) will be the *only* way to significantly drive up conversion to digital TV.

in Marx and Venus on Boxcutters - An Australian TV Podcast
Wow, I didn't know you were still doing Radio National breakfast, Josh! I thought you were only temporarily filling in for the regular TV reviewer.

I've looked at the RN breakfast site, and it looks like you're on every other Tuesday. Is this correct?

Wow... this now leaves NWS-9 in Adelaide as the only Nine station not owned by PBL (it's owned by SCB).

You've got the line wrong, Ross, but I won't tell you what it is as I've put the ad on YouTube. Go and marvel at Merv's reaction!

Dave Good: Yes, according to the Digital TV Forum, it was on January 1.

Dave Bad: No, I didn't catch it.

in Dave Good, Dave Bad on Boxcutters - An Australian TV Podcast
Dave Bad: 11:45pm Monday on Ten shows the movie Sixteen Candles in my guide - we shall see...

Dave Good: Also according to my guide, finally - hopefully - it looks like we'll be able to see Dave in High Definition! Maybe we'll finally get to see the show without the CBS Eye in a corner (a moot point considering there'll probably still be a Ten watermark).

Also, note the one thing in common with the three "useless crap" programmes you mention - they're all ad-supported programming. At least <strike>Live At The Chapel</strike> Vodafone Live At The Chapel is a more worthwhile watch than the other two.

in 3RRR Radio Show - Tv Songs on Boxcutters - An Australian TV Podcast
*"Hockey Monkey" by James Kochalka and the Zambonis - theme from The Loop. Silly and short.

*Live performances from TV shows - see The Panel, Rove Live and Sunrise compilations.

*The TV Tunes music channel at AOL Radio should provide inspiration.

*As a last resort, the Friends theme by The Rembrandts?

in YES or NO: Belated Summer of Shitty TV Edition on Boxcutters - An Australian TV Podcast
1) The King Of Queens - NO: Jerry Stiller's alright, but the rest is cliched man-versus-woman sludge.
2) Weeds - YES: seems to be well-received.
3) Life As We Know It - MAYBE.
4) Australian Princess - NO: but Ten made the right move, moving this to non-ratings.
5) Da Kath & Kim Code - NO: what're you doing, ABC? That's valuable DVD sales you're squandering!
6) The Loop - YES: fairly funny, from what I've seen.
7) 2006 AFI Awards - YES: and let's hope that more than one film scoops the pool (though that probably won't happen - it'll either be Kenny or Jindabyne).
8) Movie: Blast From The Past - YES: it's predictable, "duck"-out-of-water stuff; but it's funny.
9) How The Hell Did We Get Here? - NO: it seems like it'll be more "Good as Gold" than "20 to 1". And whatever you do, don't ask Frank Woodley that question!
10) Movie: Flashdance - YES: I haven't seen this. I'd at least like to see that "what a feeling" bit to compare with that Carlton ad.
Who should replace Naomi Robson? Humourous answer: Mike Moore or Wa Wa. Serious answer: Definitely someone male. Maybe Grant Denyer.

in YES or NO? on Boxcutters - An Australian TV Podcast
10.5 Apocalypse - NO: not another American disaster telemovie!
The Dish - YES: but it's a pity it's being sold as by the creators of "thank God you're here" (their capitalisation, not mine).
The Inside Film Awards - YES: it should be more entertaining than other Aussie awards shows.
A ’sing-along’ version of High School Musical - NO: it's an okay movie, but this is just to sell the Karaoke Edition DVD.
The Mask Of Zorro - NO.
Communications Minister Helen Coonan speaking at this year’s Andrew Olle Media Lecture - NO: unless she can top John Doyle's very entertaining effort from last year.
So You Think You Can Dance - NO: the non-ratings period's not for another two weeks, Ten!
Ashes To Ashes - NO: this stands to out-shite The Footy Show From Germany.
House at the “new appointment time” of 7:30 - NO: not while I'm eating!
Ads interrupting programmes on SBS - NO: it seems like SBS's ads policy is to put them in anything that is "popular".
Doing this each week - YES: as *I'm* the one doing it!

in The Glass House comes tumbling down on Boxcutters - An Australian TV Podcast
I don't think The Glass House is "a rare combination of political opinion and comedy" - that's largely Wil. I think it's more like A Very Funny Comedy Programme That Isn't A Sketch Show Or Sitcom, and it owes much of its success to its predecessor Good News Week (God, I miss that show [when it was on the ABC, not when it was on Channel Ten - that can go f**k off]). Here's to hoping The Glass House'll put out a good 'best of' DVD.

And I agree re Georgie Parker: she's only alright if she's saying words someone else has written for her!

Okay, now I've listened to the podcast. There's more info than you'll care about the ad at Duncan's TV Ad Land (God, Duncan's thorough!), and the ad can be seen in much better quality Vividas format at the Australian Mentos site.

I haven't listened to the podcast yet (I reserve listening time for Friday morning), but re The Ad With The Nipples:

When I saw it for the first time, I thought, "Eugh, gross...but I imagine this is what some people must've thought when they saw The Ad With The Tongue." (I wasn't grossed out by that tongue.)

And if you haven't seen the ad...
