Some small start-ups who got strong funding use recruiters when they are secretly working and try to less visible from others. I still register my resume at different places, and I sometimes get an interview opportunity. I always feel like "Is the super cool company starting business in Japan!!!!"

But generally, all I do to get a part-time or temp job is just say " I hate mixi." Optionally I add, "I like Facebook better than Myspace". Then the interviewer has nothing left to ask.

Regarding the resume, one HTML file with embedded CSS may impress. Use HTML5 and microformats. The right people will notice that. I'm saying one file simply because you don't wanna send multiple files for a resume.
