in New Cradlepoint CTR500 3G WiFi Router Released (I Gots One) on Zatz Not Funny!
the CTR500 has exactly the same processor as the MBR1000, so it should have same "connection performance"... only real difference would be wifi range to/from the router.

much more about the CTR500 at this full review: http://www.EVDOinfo.com/CTR500

in Sierra Wireless Compass 597 EV-DO USB Modem on Sprint on Laughing Squid
one of the coolest things about the compass 597 is that sweet usb cable that holds its shape... its hard to explain, even with pictures.

this video shows off the cable pretty nicely (among other things): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGC-3eUN_kI

the CTR500 has a cool failover feature that not only will work from cable/dsl to EVDO, but also from EVDO to EVDO or EVDO to HSDPA.

check out this cool video demo of the CTR500 failover feature, between a verizon expresscard and a sprint compass 597: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9Zv-94ydC8

Dave,
The first shipment of "production" CTR500's is expected tomorrow/tuesday and 3gstore is already taking pre-orders at 169.99

I managed to get two pre-production CTR500's for our review (the first one was a really early alpha unit that i got when we met cradlepoint at CTIA in vegas).

The CTR500 is going to be so popular, I believe a price drop is going to have to happen for CTR350 or else its gonna die.

Fans of the MBR1000 should be told that the new Cradlepoint CTR500 shares many of the MBR1000's features in a much smaller, portable form factor. The CTR500 has an expresscard slot and USB port, so it allows for failover between 3G sources; has 4 LED lights to show signal, just like the MBR1000 does; and shares the same processor as the MBR1000.

Lots more writeup about it at our full CTR500 Router review, as well as many photos and some video too!

in EV-DO Cuts Broadband’s Cables on blog.jr.com
For those looking for a better long term investment when buying a 3G/cellular router, you may want to check out the Cradlepoint MBR1000 EVDO / HSDPA router. The MBR1000 offers more network and device compatibility, better security options, hardware optimized connections, and superior WiFi N radio.

Nate, failover works great/quick. typically between 10-30 seconds in my testing.

but for now, if the first source recovers, the MBR1000 isn't switching back, like one would expect.

Cradlepoint acknowledges this is something they are working on, but it may be some time before the fix is in place.

ryandh,

The smaller CTR350/PHS300 routers have always worked with V740/EX720/KPC680 expresscards using an adapter:

the larger/newer MBR1000 will failover between broadband and as many as 3 different cellular devices, if active/available:

Rod, what gets installed is a "lite" version of the Sprint Connection Manager and we're not sure its all that good for much other than just connecting.

Folks wanting full featured connection manager should still download the full version from sprint.com/downloads

in Novatal U727 Available At Verizon on Rodfather Mobile
Just last week, Sprint and Motorola execs invited media on a short trip down Chicago River to demonstrate Xohm/Wimax speeds and handoff between towers.

I summarized the arstechnica article in a post on EVDOforums here:

http://www.evdoforums.com/viewtopic.php?p=39418...

the part i want to emphasize on this comment thread is this:

"The bad news?
Xohm was originally scheduled to launch in Chicago, Washington, DC, and Baltimore by the end of 2007, but availability has now been pushed back to March or April 2008"

If you need broadband wireless... my opinion is go with EVDO because it is best implemented of all _current_ solutions in the U.S.

You left one potential USB device out of the mix. We've heard rumors of a Pantech PX600 aka UM150 that may come out on Verizon network:
http://www.evdoforums.com/thread6765.html

The CDU680 should be available for sale any day now... its just a matter of getting a couple final details nailed down... like the price! :-(

Those of you that want to be notified about when the CDU680 is available, might want to follow instructions on this forum post:
