Maybe it was because she thought she would be the democratic presidential shoe-in. The people of those states only have their own state democratic committees to blame. They knew the rules, and they deliberately broke them. If the DNC goes back on their word now, and lets those states vote, then they are just showing they have absolutely no integrity.

Re: Obama&#8217;s Final Four

No way. For a democracy to work you have to have constant, educated input from the people. There are a lot of citizens out there who aren't educated on the campaign issues, and thus feel that they should not vote because they don't really know what a particular candidate stands for. Worse, are the ignorant morons who vote for things like a president's appearance, or his family ties.<br><br>People don't prioritize elections highly enough. And others think paying attention and voting is futile, and that their vote won't make an impact. What people like this don't realize is by standing by, and not caring if their voices are heard, they are having a much bigger, negative impact on the entire democratic process.

Re: Presidential Hopefuls as Lagging Economic Indicators

Paul Krugman's column is very insightful. Personally, I would love to see the average American job become more technical and skilled, forcing people to become more intelligent. As we know, Obama does not fair as well with older voters, especially older whites, which is pretty much the demographic here. The thing is I will be willing to bet parts of my body that the dynamic will change completely once a candidate is chosen for the Democrats. There are five months between the DNC convention and the general election. That is plenty of time for the wounds of liberal infighting to heal and people to realize that just because Obama is the nominee, that in no way means they should vote for McCain just because Hillary is no longer on the ticket (she would have to win every remaining state by 32% to overcome her delegate deficit). The really funny thing is if you actually look at the policies, instead of meaningless attributes such as skin color, age, or middle names (reason enough for a lot of PA voters to snub Obama), Hillary and Barack are almost mirrors of each other. The main difference is character (snobby bitch versus self reflective visionary). That breaking it down into smaller subsections of government would better allow the laws to adapt to the particular location, surroundings, and thus situations? That being said, this would leave the federal government to worry about interstate issues such as the Roosevelt Highway System, and maybe the national parks also? If there was oil under Yellowstone, I bet there would be people in this administration trying to drill it there.

Re: Damn the Economists, Full Speed Ahead

This is why educated people typically vote for Obama. If you really want to give people a break, why don't you cut the diesel tax (24 cents/gallon)? Wouldn't that drive down prices across the board due to the fact that trains and trucks have a hand in the transportation of almost all goods we buy? Although, I don't think any tax cut on petroleum products is a good idea. Those taxes are what the states use to keep our roads and bridges safe. Also, what happens at the end of the cycle when demand is higher, supply is the same, and the tax is being reimposed. Any economist will tell you that the prices will skyrocket. Telling people what the want to hear may get you elected, but finding a realistic solution, however less politically favorable, would be the best way to go.

Re: Michigan Messenger Gets the Scoop

So a bunch of wealthy whites want to throw blacks out of their homes to pave the way for a new gold course. It is likely that if you have one of these funds, the percentage of it invested in an oil company is very low. For the American Funds Capitol World Growth and Income Fund, the amount invested in Oil, Gas and Consumable Fuels is 8.1%. Also, only 19.2% of all assets in that fund are invested in the United States. I would think that a reduction in fuel costs would equate to an increase in profits for the remainder of the companies you are invested in, even though the profits for the oil companies would drop. That why they are lower risk than stocks, the investments are diversified. So screw you oil companies with your only half truth telling.

Re: Dow Cleans Up Image, Not Practices

Corruption runs rampant: <a href="http://www.sciencecentric.com/news/08051329.htm" rel="nofollow">http://www.sciencecentric.com/news/08051329.htm</a><br>--<br>I guess the government can't take a tougher stance on chemical industry polluters because it might hurt the economy. Are you sure you don't mean gas and ethanol. Gasoline and diesel engine are very different in operating principles.<br>--<br>A gas engine relies on a spark for ignition and a diesel engine relies on increased pressure to create the heat to ignite the fuel. Diesel engine do not have spark plug for this reason, they have glow plugs instead. Also the fuel delivery system is completely different. A diesel engine's fuel injection system runs above 4000 psi, while a gas engine uses 40 or so, two orders of magnitude lower. I can understand a car running on gasoline or ethanol, or a car running on petroleum based diesel or biodiesel, but diesel type engines cant run on gas and vise versa.<br>--<br>Flex Fuel vehicles, such as the ones put out by GM, utilize an engine that can use the standard blend (around 90% gas, 10% ethanol) or E85 blends (about 15% gas, 85% ethanol).<br>Most (if not all) diesel engines can be converted to biodiesel by changing the fuel filter and maybe the fuel lines, im not certain about the lines.

Re: McCain Website Launches New Blog

is that 't' in 'report' silent?

Re: McCain Plays Castro Card in South Florida

Hey, lets start a war with Cuba too. As the administration see it, not even her well being should stand in the way of our economic progress, or have any effect in changing our way of living, however wasteful. Why has no one called for widespread emergency conservation? We just constantly look for more energy. If you cut demand, wouldn't that have the same effect as increasing supply? Some, such as myself, would argue that would be the better route. If energy abundance was the only problem, this may be a viable solution, but we have the environment to think about also, so an increase in supply would lead to an increase in consumption, exactly what we don't need. It seems like the Bush administration, after securing their interests in oil in Iraq, is ready to move on and disrupt more people's lives for the sake of having free flowing oil. Not only is this bad for the people of those nations, but it does nothing for our dependence on foreign oil. Also, keeping all that oil flowing will give consumers no reason to cut back, or explore other technologies. Burning fossil fuels is, of course, not helping climate change. Do we forget where Bush came from? The facts are first the ban has to be lifted. Then we have to wait until 2012 until the leases are up on that land. Then the oil companies have to scout the area for the best places to drill. Rigs have to be built. Only then the oil can begin flowing. Twelve years in the future, I sure as hell hope we are a little more vested in renewable sources, making the offshore drilling campaign all the more useless. Theories with empirical evidence behind them. Folk stories, like creationism, should be left to the pulpit.<br>--<br>When people call the theory of evolution just a "theory", trying to discredit it, they fail to realize something: It would be irresponsible of scientist to call it a law. The reasoning is as follows. A good theory stand up to empirical evidence time and time again. but no matter how many times it is correct against the facts, it only takes one time for it to be wrong to warrant a revision of the theory. Since we cannot possible think that we have discovered every organism on the planet, nor do we know the origins or every single species, it would be scientifically irresponsible to call it the "law" of evolution. Creationists calling evolution just a theory are simply playing on semantics, and have no real grasp on the scientific method.

Re: Is Jindal Too Conservative for McCain?

I think the 'fear' has to do with teaching religious beliefs from one religion, in a country that has a total freedom of religion and a separation of church and state. If they teach the Christian story for the beginning of life, then by default they need to teach the story from all religious viewpoints, or else risk looking hypocritical. The whole reason people attend a church is because they believe in what is being preached. Children do not have a choice when it come to going to public schools, so you cannot force them to be taught about the Christian story about the beginning without the freedom of religion breaking down because public schools are federally funded.

Re: Blackwater Got Millions Pretending To Be A Small Business

Take that Erik Prince.

Re: Torture and the Presidential race

I just watched Taxi to the Darkside last night, a documentary about the human rights violations that occurred in Abu Ghraib, and GTMO. It's funny that in this documentary, you see McCain grilling military commanders about torture in what appears to be a senate hearing. If this was the McCain running for president, things would be different. Somehow, though, he seems to have left his "maverick" ways in favor of pandering to the GOP majority base. If you have control of a very powerful army, I would think that would definitely make you more aggressive. Take MacArthur and the Chinese. Do you really think firing nuclear weapons at China would have been a good idea? In fact, I might as far to say that one of the weaknesses of men, as opposed to women, is their innate desire to conquer. to take on more territory, and that is very juvenile (i am a man). While people in uniform may have their opinions of how to handle a situation, I think it is a very good idea to have a civilian leader to get another prospective. The only person referenced in this article that really does not follow this trend would be Powell, but he is absolutely the exception to the rule.

Re: On His Birthday, Obama Asks for Faith in Possibilities of Youth

"At this point the cops decided it was time to get the important stuff out of the car, their lunch. First, the land wouldn't even be able to be leased to the oil companies until 2012. Second, there is already so much land leased to the oil companies, they don't have the resources to drill on it all. Nor do they have the resources to even scout it out, to look for places to drill. Third, the oil drilled off shore is thick crude, not the light sweet crude the American refineries can refine. Making use of this oil domestically would mean a retooling of refineries stateside before it could be turned into anything. Lifting the ban on offshore drilling is simply a tactic by the GOP to try and win an election. It is not a viable source of energy for the American people.

Re: Big Oil Ties Could Hurt GOP

One more thing. You say yourself that the economy is powered by oil. From trucks to trains to farm machinery, you are right. Don't you think it is dangerous to have such s single track system in place? Wouldn't it be wise in the sense of national security to diversify the source of energy for the economy? There was an oil crisis in the 1970's. There is an oil crisis now. Even if we drill off shore, there will be an oil crisis again. Oil was great in its time. It was cheap, and reliable. Oil's time is now over. We have to move on, to evolve our energy sources towards clean, renewable ones. Our economy and environment depend on it.

Re: Ԫ

Wait, so conservation is working?

Re: Mukasey Won&#8217;t Enforce the Law &#8212; Again

He really said not every violation of the law is a crime?<br>--<br><a href="http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/crime" rel="nofollow">http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/crime</a><br>"an act or the commission of an act that is forbidden or the omission of a duty that is commanded by a public law and that makes the offender liable to punishment by that law"<br>--<br>I'm reading "not following the law is a crime". This is why we have had a problem with the administration for the past seven and a half years.

Re: Rushing to Judgment on Russia

This is exactly why we need a new garb in the White House. McCain is going to let people currently in this administration, people royally screwing up this great country and dragging her name through the mud abroad, ride in on the republican coattails of his administration. Nothing will change.

Re: Rice: Deal Is Coming Soon, With Timetables

What is McCain going to do if timetable are actually set? His entire foreign policy on Iraq will be moot. I'll guess he'll really be a maverick, because no one will be on his side then.

Re: He&#8217;s Black &#8212; &#8216;Get Over It.&#8217;

This article hits home, literally. Aliquippa and Hookstown are about a half hour out of Pittsburgh. There is a lot of racial tension within the city limits too when it comes to the general election. I've heard, "He's Muslim" so many times I want to scream. I don't think it's so much that people really believe he's Muslim, its just that his skin is blank and their skin is white and that means people have trust issues with Obama. You can say that about any argument against him too. From inexperience to his status as an elitist. There are a lot of people here who would never admit they are racist, but there is definitely racial prejudice happening all the time. And it absolutely happens elsewhere too. This is the major hurdle Obama must overcome. I can only hope that we, as a nation, all grow a little in November.

Re: McCain Drops Rezko Ad

How many glass houses is that exactly?

Re: Ad: McCain Is Just One of Us

I can believe they make these ads because that must mean that they work and someone actually believes this shit. What a sad state of intellectual affairs we are in as a country. Hey, I know, lets cut funding to public schools and then force them to close, pushing more kids into the already overcrowded, barely properly funded schools. I mean, after all, were going to have to fund the "Chase Osama to the Gates of Hell" project. Someone go by that Jules Verne book, see how they did it.
