in Ad: McCain Is Just One of Us on The Washington Independent
I can believe they make these ads because that must mean that they work and someone actually believes this shit. What a sad state of intellectual affairs we are in as a country. Hey, I know, lets cut funding to public schools and then force them to close, pushing more kids into the already overcrowded, barely properly funded schools. I mean, after all, were going to have to fund the "Chase Osama to the Gates of Hell" project. Someone go by that Jules Verne book, see how they did it.

in He’s Black — ‘Get Over It.’ on The Washington Independent
This article hits home, literally. Aliquippa and Hookstown are about a half hour out of Pittsburgh. There is a lot of racial tension within the city limits too when it comes to the general election. I've heard, "He's Muslim" so many times I want to scream. I don't think it's so much that people really believe he's Muslim, its just that his skin is blank and their skin is white and that means people have trust issues with Obama. You can say that about any argument against him too. From inexperience to his status as an elitist. There are a lot of people here who would never admit they are racist, but there is definitely racial prejudice happening all the time. And it absolutely happens elsewhere too. This is the major hurdle Obama must overcome. I can only hope that we, as a nation, all grow a little in November.

in Rice: Deal Is Coming Soon, With Timetables on The Washington Independent
What is McCain going to do if timetable are actually set? His entire foreign policy on Iraq will be moot. I'll guess he'll really be a maverick, because no one will be on his side then.

This is exactly why we need a new garb in the White House. McCain is going to let people currently in this administration, people royally screwing up this great country and dragging her name through the mud abroad, ride in on the republican coattails of his administration. Nothing will change.

This is disgusting. Republicans obviously think that the future of this country is a laughing matter. This is why we have had a problem with the administration for the past seven and a half years.

I don't know whats more ridiculous. People actually thinking that offshore drilling can lower gas prices in the immediate future, or the politicians who pander to this idea. WAKE UP AMERICA AND READ SOMETHING!

in Big Oil Ties Could Hurt GOP on The Washington Independent
All I'm really saying is that in the decade, at least, that it takes for oil to start flowing that we can't even currently refine, we could have invested time and money into green energy instead of perpetuating the legacy of fossil fuels, further worsening our addiction to dirty energy, and further deteriorating our planet.

I'm so glad Meghan includes the Blogettes' Zodiac signs in the bios on her page. And I mean who wouldn't take her seriously. She doesn't even acknowledge her half siblings in a book about her dad's life. I guess Meghan doesn't count them as important in her father's life. Thats some straight talkin'.

in Big Oil Ties Could Hurt GOP on The Washington Independent
One more thing. You say yourself that the economy is powered by oil. From trucks to trains to farm machinery, you are right. Don't you think it is dangerous to have such s single track system in place? Wouldn't it be wise in the sense of national security to diversify the source of energy for the economy? There was an oil crisis in the 1970's. There is an oil crisis now. Even if we drill off shore, there will be an oil crisis again. Oil was great in its time. It was cheap, and reliable. Oil's time is now over. We have to move on, to evolve our energy sources towards clean, renewable ones. Our economy and environment depend on it.

in Big Oil Ties Could Hurt GOP on The Washington Independent
Phuyay, you have to look at this facts. First, the land wouldn't even be able to be leased to the oil companies until 2012. Second, there is already so much land leased to the oil companies, they don't have the resources to drill on it all. Nor do they have the resources to even scout it out, to look for places to drill. Third, the oil drilled off shore is thick crude, not the light sweet crude the American refineries can refine. Making use of this oil domestically would mean a retooling of refineries stateside before it could be turned into anything. Lifting the ban on offshore drilling is simply a tactic by the GOP to try and win an election. It is not a viable source of energy for the American people.

in We Shouldn’t Feel Guilty for Following Edwards Scandal on The Washington Independent
If we are going to bring this up we might as well bring up McCain's affair he had with his now current wife while he was married to his first wife who was disfigured in an accident while he was a POW. Those are those good ole' GOP morals. You come home from war to find your wife disfigured, just go out and get a new one, they are only women right? Bastard. I bet his first wife votes Obama.

This is ridiculous. I can't believe people measure patriotism on a small pin or a few words. How bull headed can you be? How about we fix the major problems first, then once everything is peachy again, we can all wear lapel pins and recite the pledge when we get up in the morning. Or better yet, how about we have a mandatory time to recite the pledge. Say 9am, every day. Then we can all walk around with our lapel pins on, and then we'll know that anyone not wearing one is unfit to be in this country. You know, kinda like the Nazis.

in Military Leaders Make Weak Advisers on The Washington Independent
@concernedcitizen
You don't think that by giving people power, it may create a bias in their judgment on how to handle a situation? If you have control of a very powerful army, I would think that would definitely make you more aggressive. Take MacArthur and the Chinese. Do you really think firing nuclear weapons at China would have been a good idea? In fact, I might as far to say that one of the weaknesses of men, as opposed to women, is their innate desire to conquer. to take on more territory, and that is very juvenile (i am a man). While people in uniform may have their opinions of how to handle a situation, I think it is a very good idea to have a civilian leader to get another prospective. The only person referenced in this article that really does not follow this trend would be Powell, but he is absolutely the exception to the rule.
