That said, I am hoping DemoCamp can take on a more educational role for the community.where the audience learns about the building of a product or business, or the marketing of a service, as opposed to simply getting a tour of, &#39;click here and this happens&#39;. I want to know why you put that &#39;click&#39; in there and what problem you are solving and for whom. I know Jerry wants to know these things too :)

Also, for any software entrepreneurs looking for further inspiration and some great perspective, be sure to check out some of Paul Graham&#39;s essays at
<a href="http://paulgraham.com
" target="_blank"><a href="http://paulgraham.com
" target="_blank">http://paulgraham.com

Re: You say you want a revolution

David, I know you have done a lot of work finding space for DemoCamp.if it makes your life easier for this show to have a home, I for one am all for it. And really, what&#39;s not to like about this offer?

I&#039;d like to compliment Ilse Treurnicht, Allen Gelberg , Veronica Litinski, and Peter Evans and everyone else at MarsDD for hitting the nail on the head. To my mind this is a great way to support innovation here in Toronto &#38; building community is priceless. I&#39;m really pleased they recognized the opportunity, and John, you are right. The folks at Mars are a wonderful resource for entrepreneurs and innovators. If you have a chance and you are trying to build something, get in and pay them a visit.

Re: Celebrate failure

David, great to see you and thanks again for making it happen.by the way the wiki actually made it to 150 attendees.just awesome.

Re: Comparing Blinksale and Freshbooks with Basecamp integration

Fair enough Dennis.

Just so we are clear, if you use FreshBooks' time tracking capabilities instead of Basecamp's, you and one staff could use FreshBooks to track time on unlimited projects in FreshBooks for FREE - no expiry...period. Let's say you have ten projects on the go, that will cost you $24's for Basecamp - whether you use FreshBooks or not. If you need to bill 25 clients that would cost you $14 for FreshBooks, bringing your total to about $39. To track time and bill for the same number of clients with Basecamp and Blinksale would costs you $12 for blinksale + $50 for Basecamp because you'd need to pay for their time tracking version, so your total is $62.

Does that add up to you?

Cheers,

- Mike

Re: Comparing Blinksale and Freshbooks with Basecamp integration

Nice write up Dennis - thanks for taking the time to do such a thorough job.

Re price and FreshBooks/Basecamp - I guess I'm a little confused. Can you tell me how many BaseCamp projects you need to manage in Basecamp and how many clients and staff you need to manage in FreshBooks? With that information I will reply in full.

-Mike

Re: Well done, Dan — failure is educational

I'm curious to see what he does next - whether he tries something else or goes back to working for someone else.

He's clearly learned a lot; much of it will be applicable to his next venture(s).

For me I know I cut my teeth organizing an event. Lost a pile of money the first year, was profitable for the next six (having broken even again in year three). I learned so much in years one and two about how to live and succeed (read learned about entrepreneurial lifestyle) when building something. Dan's learned this now too...again, curious to see if he applies it.

Re: iStockPhoto of Calgary gets bought by Getty

Nice find. iStock is a great service. TorCamp was a really informal conference (the "unconference") that really encouraged dialog from the 20 or so people in each workshop, NOT just the person leading the workshop. I was amazed at how how many smart people there are in a room at events like that. Normally you only here from the one person at the front of the room at conferences...

Change is afoot and there is room for unlimited voices in the blogoshere. Seems like some people don't want to embrace that change...

Re: FreshBooks gets some props

Thank you for the props Mathew, and the kind words.

Looking forward to putting my mesh hat back on and serving up some more quality "Web 2.0 Conference" with you again soon. I've now been to a few events in California (mixers, socials, etc) and had the opportunity to meet Rafe and Dan Farber who attend these sorts of events in San Fran and Palo Alto...at first I was blown away by this, but like you they just love the technology and the people and their involvement in these "little" events helps fuel the machine which is the valley – something Toronto desperately needs as it continues to elevate its game in the technology world.

Re your blog: I love the redesign...congrats!

Re: eBay and StumbleUpon rumour still alive

IF stumble upon can sort out their targeting, it could be great. We played with it at FreshBooks and it drove tons of traffic, but it was not very targeted and the mindset of people when they use the tool is just to see something and carry on.

If you could use it like search and say "I am stumbling for XYZ" when you need something, things could get interesting.

Re: cdharrison.com » archive » FreshBooks adds Basecamp Integration

Go for it Ryan, and we'd love to love to hear you thoughts on what we came up with...feel free to ping me.

- Mike

Re: cdharrison.com » archive » FreshBooks adds Basecamp Integration

Who's Ryan? For what it's worth I did a quick and dirty screencast of the timesheet redesign. One is we have an API (and a new version it coming soon) and we welcome/encourage other time track solutions to use it so their clients can generate invoices. The other thing is we have some pretty interesting things in store for our time sheet. We a redesigning it to significantly improve it's usability, and when we do we'll be building it so individuals and groups can work together on the same project from separate FreshBooks accounts....so no more logging into multiple accounts to work on multiple projects if you are a freelancer who works with multiple people. We are pretty excited about it and you can learn more about it here.

Re: Project Time Tracking Tools

Thanks Tom...it's been exceeding our expectations...for example, invoices sent via the US post to Europe (i.e. the U.K.) are getting there in four days. We get them in Canada in three to four...I'm sort of amazed that the International pieces are moving so fast. The US mail is moving fast/faster too :)

Anyway, thanks again.

Re: Search Champs grilling MSN execs

Transparency surrounding what is recorded would be great.
