Bay, your Transformers was a terrible movie. Leaking a crappy script to this sequel isn't going to be a major loss.

Re: Transformers 2 Proceeds Into Pre-Production

I'm a fan of Transformers (Gen 1 as they're now known) from back in 1984 when the comic was out, the cartoon was on the horizon, and the toys were number one on my must-have list :)

Michael Bay's Transformers bears little resemblance to those memories, and is why I really dislike it so much. The robot re-designs are bad bad bad (why not make them look like the Masterpiece Transformers?); Megatron looked ridiculous; the Trans-animations were overdone, while fans and critics foam at the mouth over the CGI; the origin was completely messed up with an awkward voiceover; "the Allspark" sounded dumb and should have been "The Matrix" (but I guess it's obvious why they changed that name, for the worse); Optimus Prime (Peter Cullen) having to say "My bad", one of the most annoying catchphrases in movies recently; the cinematography was terrible, particularly in the fight scenes (and thanks to the bad robot designs, telling one robot from another was confusing); the "acting" from those involved was embarrassing...

I have nothing good to say about this Transformers movie, other than it increases the entertainment and rating value of the 1986 animated movie ten-fold. I'm sure it made enough profit to green-light several sequels, but this is nothing like the Transformers I remember or expected.

Re: Transformers 2 Proceeds Into Pre-Production

@TheDohDoh - To rain on your parade, your comment above also counts as "criticism", so don't be so quick to call other people's words "retarded".

Anyway, yes, some space action would be good to see.

Re: Transformers 2 Proceeds Into Pre-Production

Okay, brad, so you're a Bay fanboy. There's another CG tracking shot from a wastebasket that was the most complex shot of the movie, if I remember correctly.

Re: Catch Me If You Can

I love watching these titles; they're so entertaining, and preview the events in the movie.

Re: Total Recall

One of my favorite movies. I remember being entranced by the these sci-fi titles (and Jerry Goldsmith's rousing music) in the cinema back in 1990. Great design.

Re: Total Recall

I think these titles are very different to the Superman sequence, but I can see where you get the idea.

Re: Total Recall

I wouldn't say stolen. It was possibly a deliberate reference to Schwarzenegger's earlier films by composer Jerry Goldsmith.

And about the only similarity to the Superman titles is the trailing effect; which in Superman flies out from the screen in space, is a different color and typeface... Um, the style is maybe similar, but that's it.

Re: Dexter

I love this title sequence, though I have to agree that I too find it seems just a bit too long when watching episodes from DVD. Killing off two of the characters from the get-go who fought so hard to stay alive in Aliens? Unforgivable.

Sigourney Weaver was the best thing about Alien: Resurrection.

Re: Kung Fu Panda

@IAMFeAR - Yep, me too, re: Hellboy II's puppet sequence.

I guess a lot of the 3D negativity can be blamed on the over-saturation in this genre of animation; there's a glut of kid-targeted 3D adventures being churned out lately.

But I also agree that highly-stylised 2D animation looks fantastic, and could easily carry an entire feature.

Re: Kung Fu Panda

@Eden - Sorry, mate, but I think most sites prefer Internet English so we know what you're saying.

Rough translation:

"Is the sequence I like most about the movie, I think a work of art, now that most films are made in 3d animated sequence shows how the 2d also has much to be explored, with talented hands take over q rioja far, I find great as has been partially emulated some characteristic features of the anime for this opening, saving as many pictures to show the same action without losing a drop of expressiveness, the backgrounds an been enriched by the textures and character designer very good this is my opinion"

Re: Barbarella

Sexy and clever.
