It's about time that police and law enforcement agencies should take seriously encitement to crime and hate mongerers, enforce restraining orders and prosecute using all available laws.I wonder sometimes if law enforcement officres are familiar with the laws and want to apply then accordingly or succumb to intimidation by hoodlums. The public needs to be more aware and demand adequate protection

No child left behind" tries to correct the injustice done to children of minotrities by providing them with a solid educational background and making them more competitive in the society. To promote an individual to a dangerous and risky job, like leading or supervising other firefighters, requires some objective evaluation re: the competence and ability of the individual ( black , white or yellow no matter ) to take a leadership role and take charge of his team in the fulfillment of a dangerous mission. The executive function and leadership ability of an individual are difficult to evaluate by an exam yet it is the only tool we have before assigning an individual to a job in which the life of many others are at risk. Judge Sotomayer should have addressed that particular issue with people who are knoledgeable in the field: are the exam testing the individua's ability to lead in a life threatening situation? if they are adequate tests for leadership and competence than no exemption along racial divides is acceptable because it puts other people at risk. If the test is invalid than it should be redesigned in such a manner that it evaluates these crucial qualifications and exemptions along racial ot ethnical lines should not be permissible because other people lives would be at risk

With the significant no. of highly educated people being laid off every day it should be relatively easier to train and hire good supervisers of these projects. The protection of whistle blower and facilitation of their reporting task is essential for safegarding tax payers money and ensuring that these expensive programs are successful! It should be a high priority for the Obama government

it's good to have the issues spelled out clearly . Obama will have an opportunity to " right " things and as a lawyer himself he should know how to implement a some of the changes needed to have our civil rights protected without going overboard and empwering criminals ot terrorists.

ALTHOUGH THE CONCERN RE: A RIGHT WING SUPREME COURT IS VERY VALID AND IMPORTANT TO CONSIDER, WE NEeD TO REMEMBER THAT NO PRESiEDENTIAL NOMINATION FOR SUPREME COURT JUDGE CAN PASS WITHOUT THE CONGRESS' APPROVAL. As long as we have a democratic congress we have a good balance of power and a republican president will not be at liberty to appoint a very right wing judge.

The Japanese internment is a sad and shameful episode and not tocompare with the approach to Al Quaida or islamic terrorist suspects. While torture is unacceptable and against the Geneva convention, providing them the same rights like american citizens and instructing them of the Miranda law when captured in battle is ridiculous. You cannot treat an islamic extremist who has no respect for human life nor democratic laws without trying to extract some information,even before he or she has access to a lawyer.We are in the middle of a war and the end is in sight , wether democrats or republicans take over the white house But a war it is and an appeasement policy may have the exact same results like the appeasement attempts before and in the beginning of world war 2 that resulted in Hitler's ascent, the subjugation of all european democracies to a demented tyrant and the killing of 40 million innocent people.
