in louisgray.com: Why In the World Can't I Customize Apple's Time Machine? on louisgray.com
Tris, try adding CarbonCopyClone* to your backup routine. You can configure it to do an incremental backup every time you plus a specific external drive into your laptop. When you get the nervous twitches on the road just plug the external in and wait a few minutes (at most).
Having had a fairly spectacular crash and burn with my Airport Extreme Time Machine, losing all my backups from June to December, I was grateful for Plan B which was to have a CCC copy tucked away
(*SuperDuper may have this feature too.)

in Choosing the Apple TV over the Mac Mini | Macgasm on Macgasm
Entirely from gut-feeling and no hard facts, I'd say a Mini setup within the home theatre would be more versatile, especially if equipped with El Gato or such TV input. If you include DVDPlayer in the Startup folder so it's always hovering in the background, it would grab any DVD as soon as it's inserted and start playing.
No doubt the Apple TV would be simpler to start with, but I know which way I'd go.

You honestly hit the nail on the head. The Mac mini solution is more versatile, but the Apple TV is simpler. and you have to consider the best option for you. For my household the Apple TV was the best choice.

in When RSS Is So Cool, Why Is Apple Mail So Lame? on rtfa.net
You need to make it clear that Mail's RSS 'problem' is for folk taking 100's of feeds. I've got a total of 32 in Safari, with a dozen of the important ones accessed via Mail*. It works just fine for me.
(*although I'm not quite sure why. Just because it's there, I suppose. Functionally there's no difference and I could access them just as readily if they were in the same folder in Safari's Bookmark bar.)
