in http://www.jackcheng.com/guestbook on Jack Cheng
Hi Jack, I'm Phil a graphic designer based in the UK and work for a small print firm in not far from London. I'm a Christian and a Mac user which some of the topics I cover on my blog. I found your blog thanks to the StickyScreen idea you created and have followed ever since.
I'm excited by design, mostly typography, and have been known to hold up traffic at traffic lights while I pay more attention to the billboards than the whether the lights have changed.

in TWIT [This Week In Tea] on houltmac.com
Glad you are enjoying your tea Matt. Interesting to see that your tastes are changing the more you drink it, do you think it's all down to the tea or is some of it down to quitting smoking? Maybe a bit of both?
Looking forward to hearing more of your adventures in tea!

You might want to check out some of Google's experimental search things. It's not in the realms of 3D search (again I ask why?!) but they could be quite useful, particularly the Time Line view.

Interesting they say a MM requires 10.4.8. I've been using a wired MM on my work Mac which runs 10.3.9 for the last couple of months with no problems at all.

I call fake. Mac Pro's were refreshed last week, doubt they would make it a feature in the Keynote.

in Is Apple Rotten to the Core? on I Bought a Mac
I don't think Apple are "rotten to the core", but I do think that recently they have struggled with mounting public expectation.
They are clearly an innovative company, which in all intense and purposes is great. For the industry it's great, for Apple it's great. But, I think it can start to work against you. People expect so much from Apple that when it doesn't quite meet their expectations they are very disappointed and the out cry begins.
In regards to the iPhone Apple may have shot themselves in the foot with their innovation. When it first debuted people were blown away and rightly so. Then under the pressure I think Apple were then forced to release a product that wasn't quite finished. As a result, I think we are only now beginning to see the iPhone as intended, the recent update, as I've heard in other places, is I believe the OS that was meant to ship on iPhone but due to time and pressure wasn't finished in time. As a result they now find them in a situation that they appear to want control of a device that should've been locked down from the beginning, only for them to open up when the proper channels were in place. Native 3rd party apps are coming, I don't doubt, and they will arrive when the required frameworks are in place.
Ultimately it was demand for Apple's innovation which damaged them, I don't think they realised just how big the demand was and as a result got caught wrong footed.

Glad you found life in an old Mac. If you find a reasonably priced re-placement battery let me know. My iBook could do with a new one, it barely last an hour off the cord.

That's kinda cool. The Yahoo Mail interface might not be that great but it's better than most hosted solutions (ie Squirrel). Does it work in the same manner with Mail or is it purely MobileMail?

I've not heard it mentioned since the initial iPhone keynote, but wasn't a free Yahoo Puch IMAP account being given away with every iPhone? I've heard no one mention it and wondered if it actually happened or not.

in iBAM Wallpaper Contest on I Bought a Mac
Sweet, I've been wanting to try .Mac properly recently. One question, will all the voting start at the same time so everyone gets an equal opportunity? Or will those who get theirs in early get theirs upto vote straight away therefore giving more time to vote on it?

in What am I going to listen to? on I Bought a Mac
I have also recently discovered Moody and have been taggin my library as I listen and in short bursts. It works really well, although it is a bit tough deciding the levels on some songs. I imagine once most of my library is tagged I will find my self using it a lot, I only wish it integrated with iTunes a little more rather than sitting on the side of it.

in Grrrrrrr… Growl on OS X on I Bought a Mac
Growl really is a great app. I have it setup so that it works with many apps. THe best bit, I can now see Tweets with it.
@:deelirium: You can set Growl up to work with Mail as well, if you wanted to bring all your notifications under one hood, as it were! I have it so I can see when Cyberduck finishes uploading, its my notifier for Quicksilver, I can use it for Mail.app, Newsfire and all my instant messaging needs. It's great!

in I Have a Shuffle to Give Away, But How? on I Bought a Mac
What about a logo contest?
I know that the site has a great design, always will while Derek is designing for it, but it just occured to me that it might benefit from a logo of some sort. Just to enhace the sites brand a bit more. Plus I read you wanted more creative ideas and as a creative didn't feel I had been original enough. But then this isn't an original idea! *walks off to stop himself burbling any longer!*

Some useful stuff on there. The invert screen is a great trick. Doing it to a friends Mac and then exclaiming what just happened can be priceless, as the look of sheer panic spreads across their face! hehe!

in I Have a Shuffle to Give Away, But How? on I Bought a Mac
You could award it to the person who you feel has contributed (comment wise, link wise) most to the blog. Someone who you find engaging and inputs things. I know I enjoy adn find blogging more rewarding when people comment and join the conversation, so maybe you could use it to reward people. One giveaway in that manner, might make people more active and inclined to join in in the future.

I quite like the initiall design, but I'm not too keen on the swirly bits!!
Also on the main page the RA is not aligned correctly. Its slightly too big on each side. I'm in safari in case you need to know.
