If heaven has a Taco Bell, I hope I live on the other side of town. Or ... just like how your cousin Jay will be transformed from physical hurt and broken-ness into a glorious heavenly body - perfect and new and redeemed ... the Taco Bell will be transformed into a righteous carne asada taco stand with celestial cilantro and godly guacamole.

Julie, you must satisfy my absolutely wild imagination about your intelligent rabbit with some specifics of its acumen. I have never heard of a brainy rabbit, save the one whose famous line is "What's up doc?" Perhaps your rabbit can cut a hole in the floor with a saw? Substitute a stick of dynamite for a hot dog? How about sing in the bathtub? Gosh, you've really got me going....help!

Yes, it did bother me that GWB went to BJU. It bothers me when any nominee goes to BJU. This is because I have no idea why BJU has become a conservative presidential nominee stop to the White House. It is a sad testimony that as a Christian university BJU's witness for Christ is not outstanding academics, not producing world leaders, but it's witness is a former policy on interacial dating. What bothers me is that BJU seemed to only begrudgingly do-away with its dating policy.
I know some BJU alumni. They don't seem any more racist, homophobic, gracious or sinful than the general population - just like most Christians.
It is true that people and institutions that purport to be witnesses for Christ sometimes are just the opposite. That, not the fact that BJU and Jeremiah Wright have some cozy relationships with presidential hopefuls, is the issue.
Oh that we who are held in the gracious and mighty hands of our loving savior would clearly understand the full impact of our behavior on our desire to see the world and our friends come to freedom from sin and salvation through Christ. The miracle is that, even through our stumbling and bumbling as God's ambassador's, God uses each of us to accomplish his loving purpose.

I was in the United States Capitol watching the news and the President. We had received advanced notice of the President's announcement. As a Republican office, we were so proud of our President and his leadership in taking the fight to the terrorists instead of allowing them to bring the fight to us.
As we watched some of the bombing and fire fights via CNN and FOX News, we were confident that it would be a quick operation and that the superiority of the US troop's training, firepower, and equipment would make quick work of the terrorist strongholds. It has been difficult to talk to returning troops and commanding officers and listed to the political, operational and cultural roadblocks that prevented them from doing their job properly.
I supported the war then and do now. The fact is that terrorists who have sworn a religious oath to wipe out democracy and America exist and are not going to stay in their countries unless we prevent them from coming. I think we should stay there for as long as it takes for the Commanders to complete their objectives.

Larry, I disagree with most of your comment. First, homeschooling is not illegal in California - one appeals court judge has attempted to make it illegal, but his word is not the final word. Second, it is true that the majority of homeschoolers are Christians but that does not militate against the value of homeschooling. Many people homeschool for a variety of reasons, not just religious values. Third, while fearmongering is a widely practiced hobby among Christians, Christians do a lot of other things besides fearmongering. There is gossiping, lying, slandering, and, oh, overgeneralizing. I took a look at the link and was confused about the video. Was it pro or con about SB 777? The text was pretty biased and not very thoughtful. Good thing you know about ETC to balance out this poor example of issue advocacy.

Scott,
Thanks for clarifying that a McCain/Lieberman ticket would work on Ds the same way a Hillary/anybody ticket would work on Rs. I think your argument is valid if the war is your #1 issue for this election. I know that there are a lot of people who see the war as their top issue. I also know, however, that even among those who see the war as their top issue, their choice of presidential candidates is split. A lot of people care about the war but believe that a Republican president, and in particular, John McCain, will do a better job than any Democrat.
Regarding the wisdom of the GOP, that is a blog post in and of itself. I think McCain gave the GOP the Heiseman a number of years ago, so it is McCain's call to a degree. Remember, VPs are customarily but not automatically the nominee's pick. A whole balloting of electors exist and they may have a real problem electing an Independent as a VP candidate. So the practicality of how Lieberman gets on the ticket is more intriguing to me that your comment about the war.
And frankly, I think most Dems will be incredibly disappointed with the action on the war IF a Dem gets elected to the White House. Their is just too much information that the new Commander In Chief will be briefed on that can alter their pre-election perspectives.

How is it that the Democrat base would get excited about Lieberman? The Democrats already threw him under the bus two years ago when he ran and won re-election as an Independent. Are you saying the Democrat base is more centrist than those who lead the party because it seems the true blue Dems are all gaga over Hillary and Obama.

I think Rice just wants to be NFL Commissioner. She has never run for public office. She would not bring anything to McCain, has no regional allegiances, and , from what I can tell, has no demonstrable evidence to support the notion that she is a conservative.

Brady hits on one of the classic paradigms of public policy making that deprives individuals of liberty. That is, regulate everyone in case a few stray from the public good. This is truly the state of mind of California government but it is still too kind. In California it is all about power and money. Regulation is seen as a way to attack your ideological enemies and put their money in your pocket. This is so true of the California Teachers Association and its intolerance to anything that would weaken its power or provide a toe-hold for competition.
Teacher certification is not the issue. The issue is monopolistic control of education by the CTA. Why is it that getting a teaching degree or certification is valid in just about every state EXCEPT California where teachers with oodles of experience in other states are ineligible to teach in CA without a California certificate? It is the same kind of idiotic thinking that prohibits experts to teach without a teaching certificate.
The issue is not about certificates. It is about an individual's constitutional right to be educated in the way they best see fit. Regulated or not, certified by the government or not.

Well, I guess we know where the cool hipster vote is going. This is great pop culture politics. Just like last November when the Obama camp furtively released the 1984 video featuring Hillary as Big Brother.
Here is my problem with Obama and this video specifically: Style over substance. I am less familiar with Obama's policies because the notion of "The Audacity of Hope" hits me so wrong that it prevents me to venture any further to check him out.
This is very good micro-target message. I don't think 20 - 30 somethings have ever elected a president. They typically don't vote at all. But this is a fascinating election and, who knows, maybe style over substance will triumph in spite of the need for real answers to our real issues. But maybe that is the consequence of believing that hipster celebrities have something of value and importance to say. There is something seriously wrong when people seek leadership from entertainers.

You cannot tolerate that with which you agree. You can only tolerate that with which you disagree. Therefore, the greatest example of tolerance is allowing that with which you disagree the same courtesy as that with which you agree.
Truly this is what Christ demonstrated and preached. He asks us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us. Is this not true tolerance, no, true love?
Another opportunity for love is when we notice the shortcomings of others and treat them as we would like to be treated when our shortcomings are on display. Perhaps Hutch has some shortcomings when he discusses his stance on homosexuality. I don't really know.
The real tragedy is that people who feel that they have been wronged respond in an unseemly way through harassment or booing.
