in Lead, Senator Clinton. on Bang the Drum
This is a very emotional time and I don't want to make it worse by going on the attack against Harriet Christian.

I would like to say, however, for the last 15 months, so many Americans - probably more than ever before - have felt for the first time they finally had a vested interest in the process of getting a Democratic nominee with both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

With Hillary now out of the running, and not showing her acceptance and support of Barack as the nominee, it's only to be expected that some (a lot?) of her supporters would turn against Barack in favor of John McCain. I have to believe, if the reverse had happened, we could be doing the same thing. Not me, but some.

The main thing, however, is that Barack is not the one to whom they should direct their ire. Rather, it should be to the process. Personally, I'm still reeling over that whole scene over the weekend. I realize what happened makes sense to a lot of people. But, not to me.

Anyway, it happened, and to give your vote to John McCain as some kind of punishment because Hillary didn't get the nomination just flies in the face of what we as Democrats stand for and hope for. Like someone else here said, a better tomorrow for all of us, among other things.

I hope this makes sense. Like I said, very emotional and still reeling.

P.S. Karoli, your Grab our RSS Feed link has some extra characters at the beginning. I thought I'd finally subscribe since this appears to be where the action is.

Karoli Marie, thanks for the great comment and the tip on the RSS feed. Try as I might to focus on anything else, I just can't, at least not right now. This political season, more than any other, has sucked me in and brought back the best part of the old CNN days. I'm glad you subscribed. :)

Saturday wasn't that surprising to me. You had one side (Clinton's) demanding that no votes be counted in Michigan, and the other side agreeing to what was presented by the state committee as their best stab at a compromise. In the end, it made little difference. Had Clinton gotten everything she wanted, she could have claimed some moral authority to proclaim herself the winner of the popular vote. I'm guessing that it was common knowledge that Obama had the superdelegates lined up to claim the nomination on Tuesday anyway, and giving her even that small edge would have also given some small weight to the claim she made: that the nomination was stolen from her.

The fact is, Obama really won the nomination the day of the Indiana/North Carolina votes. By coming within 11,000 votes of her in Indiana, he foreclosed any mathematical chance of her winning, whether or not Michigan and Florida were counted.

The only benefit to waiting through the final primaries was that it completed the vision of a 50-state strategy, leaving grassroots organizations in communities across all 50 states. That bodes well for the national election, and I appreciate Hillary Clinton's doggedness in that regard.

However, Tuesday night's 'non-concession' speech more or less killed any respect I had for her. I'm sure she'll produce justifications for it, but they're hollow. She lost, and she was sulky and ungracious. Factor in the "I'm leading in the popular vote" lie she kept telling along with the ramped-up appeal to women to support her because she was a woman...and the fallout is toxic.

I wrote on this blog that I would resign from the party and become an Independent if she won the nomination. I also said I'd vote for her. And I would. I resist constantly the possibility that she could become a running-mate. That would just be drama and more drama, without end.

We'll see.

Man, she is just not going to let go. I think she might best serve the country in a leadership position in the U.S. Senate. Unless, of course, if she goes all rogue on us.

Karoli Marie, I've always thought that she'd be an incredibly effective Senate Majority Leader. But Harry Reid has actually solidified his hold on that spot.

@marlaerwin, I'm thinking Dept HHS is the perfect place for her. With a nice strong Democratic Congress at her back and the momentum of Barack Obama's landslide in her sails.

@CarlS I couldn't agree with you more. That's the heart of my problem with her. it's NOT personal. I'm sure she IS passionate. But her style is incompatible with his. It's not even complementary. All I can think of is the travel office scandals, et al.

Barack Obama has carved a Ferrari of an organization. Hers is more like, well, Nascar. Is that elitist of me?

in Hope is what we have, Hillary (Scripting News) on Scripting News
I think about hope, and what it means, a lot. I started really thinking about it when I first heard of a little town called Hope, Arkansas, which I probably would never have heard of were it not for Bill Clinton. When he said he still believed in it, I thought he meant more than just the place, but that we all must have hope. And to not give up our hopes (and dreams).

Hey Karoli, excellent list. I'm getting a little chuckle here because I did my list not quite two weeks ago:

Dave, I hate to sound like a conspiracy theorist here, but, they saw you coming.

You walked in the door and they were calling your name. Big tip-off. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that one Dave Winer writes code, among other things, and there could very well be some gems on his old hard drive. Could this be the same Dave Winer?

The guy removed the old drive and took it in the back room. It's pretty easy to imagine them immediately mounting it in a special machine to see if the drive was recoverable. And, walla, yes it is.

If the store manager wanted, I'm sure she had some discretion to return the old drive to you. But, that was no longer possible as the drive was promptly packed up and sent by courier to the home office for analysis while you were still in the store!!!

Interesting,

bad-tempered "And, walla, yes it is."

What does simulated crowd noise have to do with anything...? (The word you mangled is "voilà". Learn it, use it, and never again publicly expose your ignorance.)

in Help a fashion disaster recover… on odd time signatures
This isn't fashion. This is timeless practicality. To start, I would recommend a blazer. If you can afford two, get one each of corduroy (can be business and casual) and wool (business and semi-dressy). Black slacks and a black straight skirt. A couple nice finished t-shirts or plain shirt. Flats or low-heeled pumps. As for the colors, whatever looks good. This probably wasn't what you were looking for, but you'll look good and people think you know what you're doing (which you probably do, anyway).

I wear this stuff everyday. Except, not so much the skirt part anymore. I have two of these. It may not look like it came from Saks, but it's super comfortable, looks decent, and you can't go wrong with that price.

On the other hand... The last time I was in Atlanta, the shoeshine girl just off the lobby of the some downtown hotel (can't remember the name), wore a little black cocktail dress at eight in the morning. So, there's that.

I watched the show online tonight thanks to your post. Otherwise, I would have missed it. Frontline is one of my favorite shows, but for some odd reason, I always seems to miss it. I blogged my reactions to the show here.

Okay, I thought about it more. Maybe she gave up so easily to avoid an ugly confrontation and possibly the police being called. She might have rationalized it that if the police got involved it could or would curtail future scams.

In any event, I'd bet money she's going to do something similar again. If she's not already.

I just read Josh Olson's entire article. And, oh, my God! One thing that occurred to me, and maybe someone somewhere already commented this, is that Janna gave up so easily because she already has another scam in development somewhere. The really creepy thing is Janna is sitting back somewhere reading all this. The question is, is she shamed, or is she getting off on it.

What a complete scam. Laura is signed up with Career Builder and I think she may have got a solicitation from this company or something like it.

We get a lot of door to door sales people at my office, which is on a mixed residential/commerical street. They're selling everything from cheap toys to truckloads of furniture "just in from North Carolina" that was "supposed to go to a store in Chicago but was overstocked." Or some line like that. The people doing the selling are all about 18 to 30 and looking very desperate. This has to be one of the hardest ways to make a living.
