in Google to AdSense users: Please don’t dump us in crap economic times on VentureBeat
The problem of being a 'one trick pony' is that Google has only one real revenue stream.

Getting into the mobile phone market (retail and hardware) is far away from it's core business: B2B and web service. Nokia and Samsung are the leaders.
Getting into operating systems is also a gamble: Chrome and Android where Microsoft is the leading party.

And Google might have missed the cloud computing: Amazon EC2 and S3, with Microsoft competing with Google Apps. This is right in Google's backyard where they should have been the leader.

Only a few companies have managed to re-invent themselves over time:
IBM, Apple, GE, Microsoft, Samsung (stared as sugar production, ..., then computer chips, microwaves, now cell phones), Philips (light bulbs, then all electric & electronic), Sony

Now Google has to prove itself.

in Moving into web video communication, Logitech buys SightSpeed for $30 million on VentureBeat
Logitech is a company known for hardware devices to add on to your pc and have retail distribution.
Strange they now want to expand their offering by addressing the market with software for video conferencing. This is B2B instead of B2C.

in Brightkite finally launches its iPhone app. Could this be the one that launches LBS? on VentureBeat
"Why do they stop using them? Because their friends aren’t using them."
People not using Location Based Services?
In any business, there has to be a need that gets solved by the service or product.

Maybe there is no need for such services?
Maybe an obvious element is missing?
In most cases new technologies have been widely adopted when the adult entertainment industry had an application.

in Expect to see start-ups and VCs hit standoff over valuations on VentureBeat
If the start-up has a business model, is break even or makes profit, then VC's will come and try to get a piece of the cake.
On the other side if your VC funded start-up is burning money, then VC's probably want to dump it as fast as possible. (example: Identity Engines www.idengines.com

in Microsoft’s Ballmer sneezes. Yahoo has tissues. Stock soars. on VentureBeat
The Empire (MSFT) strikes back again.
Google should watch out and find new revenue sources as MSFT has many revenue sources and cash on balance sheet.
Moreover MSFT has experience selling into retail, whereas Google hasn't. As Google tries to sell into retail with their G1 phone a long learning curve lies ahead for them.
Just ask MSFT about XBox360

in HD shows galore on iTunes — too bad they’re cost prohibitive on VentureBeat
Hollywood needs the money hard.
Due to the credit crisis they will be facing problems to fund new block buster movies. Raising $50mio for a movie will be less easier.
Or they have to change the type of movies they are making: less physical action, more psychology (real content)

Or will we all go and see Bollywood movies in a year from now?

Why does Apple get all this interest?
Hype about nothing?
There are several other companies with interesting low costs products since long on the market.

in Business Opportunities Before They Exist - The Future Of B2B Marketing? on ReadyContacts Role-based B2B Contacts
If the financial institutions would have been able to look into the future, they would have known about the recession to come.

Neil Sequeira It is ironic that they employ so many professionals whose only responsibility is to predict even the smallest changes in trends that will cause a rise or fall in a particular vertical and yet the biggest catastrophe that was brewing right in their own organizations was missed.

Once one of our blog post gets bookmarked on StumbleUpon, soon it appears on Mixx and Digg. We track the origin for each visitor timely and thus know when and where the incoming visitors are coming from.

Unclear who has the lead. Mixx is certainly the new kid on the block.

in Is this the new MacBook Pro built by laser beams and water jets? on VentureBeat
Apple are the best at marketing. Getting attention even before the product has launched by sending behind the scenes clues.
And everybody finds this news worthy.

Why is this not applicable to other companies that have new technology too? Technology that might change daily life: credit cards displaying a one time password for security.

in Report: Sequoia has emergency meeting, tells startups to try to survive downturn on VentureBeat
@ Jay Is having an IPO the goal? The holy grail?
Be happy with a normal life and a company that just has revenue and is profitable.
Many stock traded companies would like to get unlisted for all the problems, costs and hassle their listing brings.

If you have a company supplying a service or a product to a market demanding these products, then your company can survive. Probably you will not get rich, but do you have to? What are you going to do once you're rich? Sit in the sun on the beach?

In any case all the companies need leads for getting sales. Get them from your website.
