Another thought hit me too: why did you choose mediaemerging.com for your URL and not scotthepburn.com? Why did you transfer over to a new blog and not stick with the PR branded blog? These questions can be asked and answered on Twitter screenname as well, I think. Essentially it's the same concept, no?

Yeah I started out using a nickname and realized after the fact that it probably would've been better to use my full name. However, my name is pretty long and by the time I made that realization, I'd already become known to my followers and developed my persona under the nickname. I choose now, not to change it. Besides if you look up my screenname my full name is in my profile. I don't see it as a problem. Some others would maybe disagree with me.

As far as @carolinajobs I haven't really decided what to do with it. It's more of my company's brand than mine. Besides talking about it and signing my name to some DM's I don't really see it as ME. I manage it, I manage the information that it provides those followers. But that's about as far as it goes. Again, maybe there's a better way to to do it. That's just what I've been doing to this point.

I feel a lot of what Rich talks about below with @CruiseSource is similar to what I'm experiencing with the @carolinajobs identity.

I personally just utilize privacy settings on Facebook. I don't let everyone see the family photos, etc. I've considered creating a second or separate Twitter account but for the reasons you mentioned, it just doesn't make sense. I am me wherever I go or whatever my screenname is.

I've seen a lot of talk about how your Twitter name should be your real name. But I think that it's different for everyone.

For work, I operate under @carolinajobs but my purpose for that account is to push links that might be helpful to job seekers. Or to use it as another means of notifying people of where jobs are in the Carolinas. I think it's about determining what you want from social media, and then deciding the best route - whether that means to use your name, a screenname, a company name, etc.

After Startup Weekend - we had the NBC news crew that was filming on twitter. They're using it to kinda tease for the upcoming stories. Kinda interesting @NBCNewsCrew if you want to follow them. It's definitely an interesting topic!

It's so weird reading this because I just did a 3 city trip with a layover and probably have had the best experience I've ever had. Everyone was really courteous and everything was ontime. It was really surprising.

I don't think it's about gas prices either. If it were, airlines would charge by the miles not by whatever they're feeling like charging for that day.It's kinda ridiculous that for the same flight two people sitting next to each other can pay hundreds of dollars different. If it were about gas they'd not mess with the baggage charges and all these other (insignificant) random charges and just do flat rates.

It's probably negative b/c some of those things are less desirable for the individual - WHAT? A used car over a new one? Or living in an apartment in the busy, crowded city rather than living in a house in the 'burbs?

@Ben I'm sorry - I corrected your name above. I'm right there with you - just turned off my Twitter IM's for a few hours so I can get some reports out. But you're right it's always nice to find out how people are using different media like Twitter and how it's useful to them.

Thanks to Scott (@capitalfellow) for pointing this out - Target's mantra was "Democratize Design" not "Democratic Design" - making design available to the masses. I kinda rearranged some letters there and altered his meaning. So I updated that in the post.

Our local paper - Charlotte Observer - has a twitter feed and it's fabulous. Especially when they do traffic updates! But it's not embedded on their site. (Or at least I can't find it) But as a non-subscriber to the paper, the twitter updates are great for me because I get the headlines that way and then click on the link when I want to read the story.

Yeah Facebook is all about socializing. People trying to do business on it are asking the same thing you are. I've been spending less time on it as well but I used to play those stupid application games Pirates or Scrabble or Browns Trivia with my friends who live back in Ohio. It's like high school reunion or college reunion but on-going. So as far as how that is useful to you is up to you, I suppose.

Sam, I'm sorry you lost someone so close to you. I've also been thinking and praying for your family.

My choice would be Rebecca at Modite Blog (http://modite.com/blog/) I don't really know her well but recently found her blog and she posts with so much energetic and is encouraging to read sometimes. Completely idealistic but this helps to really trumpet the potential of and challenge a rising Generation (Gen Y) [to live up to that potenital] and through her insight from what I've read encourages me to do the same.

Going to take over? If they haven't already and we just don't know it yet.

Facebook is my online address book. My friends are pretty good about keeping their statuses updated so I can keep tabs on what they're up to. It's nice since I've moved away. Just the other day, a friend from college wrote that she was in NC vacationing, so FB let me get in touch with her and we got to hang out! It's been like 3 years. I would've never known she was around and been able to catch up if there were no FB.

A lot of the stuff is pointless, yes. But it's fun. I mean, common, where else can you attack your friends and turn them into zombies?

I don't use it either.

I always Google my health problems! I thought I was the only one who'd rather self-diagnose and see if I HAVE to go to the doctor or not.

Glad you feel better - I've had a few anxiety attacks in my life and they are not fun. (I was interned with Hal for a summer, need I say more?) ;)
