The reason I read Christie Blatchford's column in the first place is because she writes so personalized and I as though she's speaking directly to me. It's a shame she has such disregard for blogging. At last glance, her article had 98 comments. Not too shabby although I suspect they'd be more meaningful if they were part of a community she cultivated on her own blog.

I agree with you 100%. I like the convenience of Facebook chat. It's just so easy to use once you're logged in. At the same time, I'm feeling like a bit of a voyeur now and I'm more acutely aware of when my friends are logged on too.

The problem is (without sounding cold, crass or mean) when you're connected with people who you're not into chatting with, who in turn start a conversation without your permission. Awkward or what?

So far, I've had more positive experiences than not so I'll give FB a chance and see if they decide to let me manage my personal disclosure in the days to come.

It's so obvious Sarah Palin was chosen for her gender. If U.S voters elect the McCain-Palin ticket for that reason, they're getting what they deserve.

Dave, I know how disappointed yo were not physically being at PAB. I have to agree with Dave Fleet because it definitely felt like you were there, particularly with your personalized twitter and meebo messages. I hope we're all able to reconvene at PAB 2009 in person, and if not, thanks for sharing tips on how to participate from the couch.

Zoe, I just received my repaired Flip last night. It's awesome, easy to use and even plugs right into my new HDTV.

I've been eating NutriSystem meals for months but never tried the burger. Maybe I should have. I'd like to get your take on the grilled chicken. It was the only dinner I haven't been able to eat and sits right up there with the eggs.

Lucky you! I love getting outreach from people who get it too and I LOVE cookies. My co-worker told me about New Moon Kitchen months ago because the owner and I share a name and a passion for cookies too.

As for Rayanne's comment, I agree it's best if you already have a relationship with a blogger before reaching out to her but that doesn't always happen. Next best thing is finding a blogger who you may have some connection with and who is a good fit, while not pretending to be their best friend or biggest fan. We all know that's a big fat lie. Honest and sincerity go a long way.

Zoe, just curious, did the email come from an agency or someone from New Moon Kitchen?

I can't wait to read your review.

I cannot believe someone made that comment to you about your future children. That's horrible. If it's any consolation, I've dealt with my share of that shit too.

I agree with your mom. People who don't know what to say really should keep their thoughts to themselves.

I remember when my mother died, we were at the cemetery and one of my grandmother's friends came up to my sister and I (we were 12 and 15 respectively) and she told us how beautiful we looked. We had just buried our mother and had been bawling our eyes out for days. Yep, I'm sure we looked ravishing.

It's difficult at any age. Does expressing your feelings online make it any easier? I bet you're helping others while helping yourself.

I just thought of the most frequently stated worst comment: "Well, think of what your grandparents are going through. It's harder to lose a child than a parent." Sorry, I don't buy that. Losing someone you love sucks no matter what.

I've been thinking and sending positive thoughts your way. When I had my first baby, he was born by c-section. The delivery was planned, the c wasn't but it was a likely possibility. Everything turned out fine and the recovery wasn't as bad as I'd expected.

Great idea Bill! Actually, Connie Crosby, Jay Moonah and I had a similar discussion about doing something with small groups on the drive home from PAB. It wasn't as much about breaking up cliques as it was about creating team projects in smaller groups.

Although I'm a smidgen outside of the age demo, I'm definitely a women who watches two of those shows regularly. I'm also often at my computer or iPod Touch at the same time. However, I'm usually doing something completely different there. I wouldn't be the least bit interested in any of the ideas you've suggested. Sorry.

A couple years ago Will & Grace fans could buy some of the clothing and accessories online following an episode. I'm not sure how successful the experiment was but I give them high points for trying.

If a show wanted to engage me online, sure promote a new feature at the end of the episode or at an end of a commercial break. Be innovative online but don't play with me while I'm watching an episode on TV.

Interesting... I had similar thoughts about a new blog project I'm considering. I questioning whether or not I'd be giving too much away for free. Connie Crosby told me I should look at what you've done as an example for the same reasons you've outlined in this post. I'll be watching the comments closely.

Posts are meant to spark conversation. Comments aren't only a feedback mechanism for the blogger but a way to keep the discussion going and engage the community. A blog without comments sometimes feels like you're talking to a wall. At the same time, if you're blogging and you're not getting any comments, don't get discouraged. Focus on ways to engage your readers and/or how to let others know you're out there.

I've been blogging for 2.5 years and am fortunate to have built a small, loyal community. I began podcasting last August. We get the occasional comment on the podcast blog. I'm waiting for the day when someone sends us an audio comment.

Sure glad I'm wearing a vibrant purple top today. ;-) This sure is timely now that my new role includes delivering presentations on a regular basis - they used to be reserved for podcamps and other unconferences - thanks! I'd add know as much about your audience as you can in advance and keep them in mind when preparing your presentation.
