in Speaking and Presenting- Your Next Actions on Chris Brogan
Chris,
Whew! Sure glad I'm wearing a vibrant purple top today. ;-) This sure is timely now that my new role includes delivering presentations on a regular basis - they used to be reserved for podcamps and other unconferences - thanks! I'd add know as much about your audience as you can in advance and keep them in mind when preparing your presentation.

Cheers,
Eden

It amazes me how much time good PR practitioners have to spend defending their work because of how many others in the business have poor judgment.

in Don't Tell Me - Sell Me! | danny brown on danny brown - social media pr and marketing
A crawl on the screen thanking me for being a fan? C'mon.

Although I'm a smidgen outside of the age demo, I'm definitely a women who watches two of those shows regularly. I'm also often at my computer or iPod Touch at the same time. However, I'm usually doing something completely different there. I wouldn't be the least bit interested in any of the ideas you've suggested. Sorry.

A couple years ago Will & Grace fans could buy some of the clothing and accessories online following an episode. I'm not sure how successful the experiment was but I give them high points for trying.

If a show wanted to engage me online, sure promote a new feature at the end of the episode or at an end of a commercial break. Be innovative online but don't play with me while I'm watching an episode on TV.

Danny Brown That's the beauty of basic ideas, Eden - they get improved with interaction and suggestions, like the ones you're making now. Offers during advertising breaks, as I mentioned with the show or product's sponsors, would be a way to interact to your preference.

There's a way to go and ideas to be approved/dismissed, yet just starting the discussion has to be better than not having it at all?

in No Comment on Chris Brogan
Posts are meant to spark conversation. Comments aren't only a feedback mechanism for the blogger but a way to keep the discussion going and engage the community. A blog without comments sometimes feels like you're talking to a wall. At the same time, if you're blogging and you're not getting any comments, don't get discouraged. Focus on ways to engage your readers and/or how to let others know you're out there.

I've been blogging for 2.5 years and am fortunate to have built a small, loyal community. I began podcasting last August. We get the occasional comment on the podcast blog. I'm waiting for the day when someone sends us an audio comment.

in Hi, thanks for following me on Twitter… on Dave Delaney : Dave Made That
I know this sounds strange but I've never received one of those messages. I hear about them all the time. I'd probably find them annoying most of the time.

Dave Delaney Eden, I know what you mean. It could really turn into something terrible if
it was misused. Luckily in this case, it's just amusing pony and unicorn
enthusiasts. :-)

Zoe, this guy obviously isn't dealing with a full deck. I hope he's not reveling from all this attention. So sorry he has such lack of judgment and has brought your father into this. He's not doing Microsoft of twitter any favours.

zoeDisco @digitaltodd i agree, funny idea that was taken too far. this person has anger issues. i would hate to know them in real life.

@amberinOz thanks for the support. you are right, sometimes these trolls really thrive on the attn. at the same time, i will not just let it happen.

@edenspodek totally agree. could you imagine being the person next to him at work? scray thoughts.

@everyone - thanks for the support. it's wonderful to have such a great community. maybe that's why @microsoftword is so angry - he doesn't have people like you in his/her life to realize the value of positive relationships.

i feel sorry for him/her.

in 4 Worst Things Said (or done) at the Funeral | medium & the message on Medium & the Message
It's difficult at any age. Does expressing your feelings online make it any easier? I bet you're helping others while helping yourself.

I just thought of the most frequently stated worst comment: "Well, think of what your grandparents are going through. It's harder to lose a child than a parent." Sorry, I don't buy that. Losing someone you love sucks no matter what.

in 4 Worst Things Said (or done) at the Funeral | medium & the message on Medium & the Message
I cannot believe someone made that comment to you about your future children. That's horrible. If it's any consolation, I've dealt with my share of that shit too.

I agree with your mom. People who don't know what to say really should keep their thoughts to themselves.

I remember when my mother died, we were at the cemetery and one of my grandmother's friends came up to my sister and I (we were 12 and 15 respectively) and she told us how beautiful we looked. We had just buried our mother and had been bawling our eyes out for days. Yep, I'm sure we looked ravishing.

It's so obvious Sarah Palin was chosen for her gender. If U.S voters elect the McCain-Palin ticket for that reason, they're getting what they deserve.

Lucky you! I love getting outreach from people who get it too and I LOVE cookies. My co-worker told me about New Moon Kitchen months ago because the owner and I share a name and a passion for cookies too.

As for Rayanne's comment, I agree it's best if you already have a relationship with a blogger before reaching out to her but that doesn't always happen. Next best thing is finding a blogger who you may have some connection with and who is a good fit, while not pretending to be their best friend or biggest fan. We all know that's a big fat lie. Honest and sincerity go a long way.

Zoe, just curious, did the email come from an agency or someone from New Moon Kitchen?

I can't wait to read your review.

zoeDisco It came from someone at New Moon Kitchen. As far as I understand she not only helps to run the business side of things but she also bakes too!!!

and the review will probably be the 'watching' kind ;)

in Blatchford pines for the monologue on Mathew's comments
The reason I read Christie Blatchford's column in the first place is because she writes so personalized and I as though she's speaking directly to me. It's a shame she has such disregard for blogging. At last glance, her article had 98 comments. Not too shabby although I suspect they'd be more meaningful if they were part of a community she cultivated on her own blog.

mathewi That's part of what I think Christie is missing by being so dismissive of blogging, Eden -- if she gave it a try, I think she could really develop a great community around her writing.

I've been thinking and sending positive thoughts your way. When I had my first baby, he was born by c-section. The delivery was planned, the c wasn't but it was a likely possibility. Everything turned out fine and the recovery wasn't as bad as I'd expected.

I've been thinking about you today. Hope Holly has a comfortable night and who knows, maybe we'll wake up to some exciting news in the morning. Here's to hoping the delivery is relatively quick and comfortable.

Interesting... I had similar thoughts about a new blog project I'm considering. I questioning whether or not I'd be giving too much away for free. Connie Crosby told me I should look at what you've done as an example for the same reasons you've outlined in this post. I'll be watching the comments closely.

You are so right about shuffling vs. fundamentals. There are so many things competing for our time online that sometimes it's easy to lose focus. Thanks for helping me remember to reel it all in.

in How to Solve the Cliques at conferences. on Deys.ca
Great idea Bill! Actually, Connie Crosby, Jay Moonah and I had a similar discussion about doing something with small groups on the drive home from PAB. It wasn't as much about breaking up cliques as it was about creating team projects in smaller groups.
