I fail to understand what is conservative about fatherhood. As a matter of fact I learned from Gil Scott-Heron, "We've Got to Do Something to Save the Children," that fatherhood is the start of progressiveness. It is the concern for all children that drives the progressive agenda. A progressives understands their child will not fully develop if I do not help make a world where all can fully develop.

Obama may be conservative in programs proposed, but he is not conservative in solutions desired; universal health care, living wages, meaningful work, peace, quality education, and equal opportunity. There is nothing conservative about these goals. Obama's moderation is in his willingness to use the tools loved by liberals or conservatives to reach progressive ends.

The ideological among us get stuck on the means; school vouchers, merit pay, subsidy, single payer, free enterprise, military power, and diplomacy, and do not reach the goals.

The USA is large, complicated, and with structure and precedents (history). We can not go to the best solution. We must go to the best solution available. This is the radical in Obama. He recognizes and articulates a future of health, prosperity, and peace and tells us we can get there without loosing our ideology.

The Marxist and Capitalist can both still be right, just not all the time and in every situation.

In the 60s Blacks in my part of the country, Grand Rapids, MI, used the term Whitey and Hunkie as roughly the equivalent of N-word. When it started showing up in JJ's and George Jefferson's mouth the words lost all coolness. It then became as described, a word white people put in Black peoples mouth.

One of my favorite expressions for whites was "ofay". A phrase for someone with a white lover, "Jimmy got a little snow in their game" was also a favorite of mine.

I stopped using Whitey and Hunkie, when I stopped using N-word.

The GOP needs to stop supporting policies that do not meet the needs of Black people. Social conservatives in the Black community are not the same as social conservative in the white community.

Black social conservatives know sometimes police act based on prejudice. White social conservatives believe the police are always right. Black social conservatives want the Black under employed to be educated and have good jobs. White social conservatives want to help the deserving poor. Some White social conservatives believe the confederate flag is no big deal. Black social conservatives ..., Well, you get my drift.

Ickes and Flournoy statement that 4 Clinton delegates were hijacked is wrong. Clinton had 55% of the vote, which translates to 71 of the 128 delegates. That would give everybody else 57 delegates. So a case can be made that 2 delegates were hijacked.

But for some reason, the Michigan Democratic Party proposed the 69/59 split instead of 71/57. I do not know the reason. If the MI Democratic Part think 69/59 is a fair reflection of the Michigan Democratic vote, a challenge by Clinton/Ickes/Flournoy is based on their campaign's needs, not preserving a fair reflection of voter preference.

in Is John McCain Dissing Black Republicans? on Jack and Jill Politics
If there is a choice between the Blacks and the Whites, the GOP always chooses the Whites and the Democrats will try to choose on principles.

The Confederate flag is such a choice.

Whether violence is down or up does not matter. It is time for the Iraqis to solve their problrm. It is time ofr the US troops to come home. The policy is wrong. We can not occupy Iraq for the forseeable future.

Surge success is immaterial, just as previous successes or failure were.

Latest Reuters Poll

Obama, who was tied with McCain in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup last month, moved to a 48 percent to 40 percent lead over the Arizona senator in May as he took command of his grueling Democratic presidential duel with rival Hillary Clinton.

The poll also found Obama expanded his lead over Clinton in the Democratic race to 26 percentage points, doubling his advantage from mid-April as Democrats begin to coalesce around Obama and prepare for the general election battle with McCain.

There is an article in the Washington Post on racist responses to Obama campaign workers and activities. The campaign desires to downplay the actions in order to run a unity campaign. I think the campaign made the right decision, but citizens should know violence against Blacks who get out of their place is real in America.
