in On Poverty on Everything Everywhere
A really great post. I'd very much like to echo Neil Duckett, because as you yourself say, we confuse types of poverty. I too believe that micro-finance organisations are a way forward, and in fact blogged about one myself today.

in What I’m Getting Mama for Mother’s Day on Musings è¿é
Sounds like a great idea. My mother would have loved that I think. For Christmas we bought her a digital photo frame which was a major success. Our family lives very far apart so I asked everyone for photo contributions and she spent hours looking at them, and showing them to all her visitors and nurses.

eyespi20 I'm going to do the digital frames for the kids' Christmas as we got an album of old photos from Ken's brother-in-law that were from their mom's estate that I'm going to scan and put on the frames. There are photos of Ken and his brothers as kids and of their mother and father that the kids and grandkids have never seen.

in Mother’s Day Just Around the Corner! on Musings è¿é
This Mother's Day thing is a confusion! We had ours in the UK in March on the Sunday before Easter, in France it is the last Sunday in May, in Belgium the second Sunday in May, and so it goes on....

You're entirely right, the whole thing is false.

Having said that though, I've never dropped anything like even half the maximum cards so I can't complain about effort. Yet I've come across some interesting blogs and "met" people I'll continue to visit, so it hasn't been a complete waste. And there are two who visit me on a semi-regular basis :)

in Driving On The Left on Everything Everywhere
We live in the UK six months of the year, and six months in France, so changing from one system to the other has become fairly normal, though not always easy . The trick is remembering where you are! Quiet country roads are the worst, in towns and cities you can take just follow everyone else.

If you really had no idea wjhat you were doing with your camera at any time, it gives me heart that one day I'll find out what I'm supposed to be doing....

All's well that ends well, as they say, but it certainly has taken some time!

My first thought when I saw it was that it was a mango stone, but on inspection of the larger and following photos on flickr I can see it really is a banana. Great shot!

in Italian Paragraphs on Blog from Italy - Life in the Living Museum
I find I just skim over big blocks of text like that and read thoroughly only if something catches my eye.

In my own writing, which leaves a lot to be desired thanks to too many reports and grant applications, I have to fight a tendency to chop it up too much in an effort to make it readable.
