I used to think that party meant a difference. It is plain to me now that it really does not! Didn't the founders develop the idea of a congress to represent the wishes of the people? Has congress lost site of that fact if indeed it is a fact, I have begun to doubt myself with this latest injustice. Since when is failure rewarded by the government? This bill will only benefit the banks and they will be able to continue along the lines of disastrous behavior as before. I say let some of those CEOs pay for this bailout. They may have to sell some of their excessive holdings or lose some of the interest they are now enjoying at our expense but maybe they should be held accountable some how.

As for Congress, I am at a loss for words. Do they know something that we don't know? I doubt it. I have never been so ashamed to be an American! I am a Viet Nam era veteran too, I made myself available for one of the most unpopular wars of the last century. I am ashamed of our government.

ugetab I'm ashamed of the country on the whole. People fought to defend this place back when it was worth the effort to be fair to individuals from a legal stance. People could, would, and did fight to get the government to see fair treatment as including them. Now, we can yell and scream all we want, and there's nothing that can be done by the people. A few examples: a US general who says 'So what?' to low public support for the war, immensely low approval ratings for both the president and congress even before the bailout, and low public support for the bailout plan itself. Even I thought it needed to be looked over for a week or two by congress/lawmakers before being voted on.

I have to say that I'd feel like crap if I was fighting battles for America, because this place is starting to go socialist in the worst available way: lemon socialism. Wiki that sucker and tell me I'm wrong if you can find a way.
