Same here. Straight to vmail calls and inability to dial out for hours. Power on/off seemed to fix the dial out, but the missed calls is frustrating as hell. Some take 2+ days to show up in vmail.

Honestly, disappointed about the WLTV Reserve show. I liked the 5min version .. not saying you go on and on and on .. but .. um .. yknow man .. sometimes you do ;)

Great advice about the economic shock being a "near death experience" to scare people sensible.

Nice work, comme toujours.

I just think Calacanis is an arrogant a-hole.

That said, I really do enjoy his appearances on TWiT, but I still think he's a total ass.

in We may die, but the Web lives on on Mathew's comments
I wrote about something similar, digital estate planning, back in the spring. I was inspired by an interview local blogger Derek K Miller did with CBC's Spark.

antje wilsch I saw that - that was a good one. It's one of the problems we're trying to provide a solution for. There was a story on MSN not too long ago about a gentleman whose father passed away suddenly; he had an online business, and the son was trying to get into his computer to access all his files to fulfill orders, get the financials in order etc. He spent six months calling various service providers to explain the situation and try to unlock passwords and let those customers know, answer emails, etc -- it was a nightmare, and this will happen more as everyone moves online.

What about giving you achance to delete an app and get a refund? You get 30mins / 1 day / 48hrs to test it to make sure its what you want.

As it stands now, there's no way to test an app, you have to buy it blind, believing what the creator promises.

in My BlogHer/Feminism Rant on Not To Be Trusted With Knives
I think you also need to look at it from the pov of the marketers.

Women at a blogging convention. Odds are more than likely, that a majority of them will have / want children. Yes, there will be some non breeders there, there will also most likely be some gay bloggers there as well... but. .. when trying to deal in majorities and probabilities, you have to generalize, pigeon-hole and stereotype.

it's not wrong, it's not right, it's just how it is.

Yes, the Cult of Mom can be rather freaky.

But it's weird, once you have kids - they really do strangle your life and define your identity. The challenge is to still be true to yourself.

Some, however, just dont have their own personality and are quite fine being defined by their children.

I was almost assimilated into the Cult of Mom at a recent library storytime.

in Gary Vaynerchuk - When do you know you have a community? Stop... on Gary Vaynerchuk
I work in radio, I'm a traditional, old school broadcaster on a Top 40 radio station. A medium, and format that has taken it's community for granted for too long.

I'm also a blogger, vlogger, twitterer and trying to build out my own personal brand.

Thanks for reminding me about the importance of the little things, Gary.

See ya in Seattle on the 28th.

in Appreciating A Seth Godin Post on Chris Brogan
Guy Kawasaki interviewed Darren Rowse about Seth and his closed comment policy. Rowse came to an interesting conclusion - with closed comments it causes the discussion to be taken elsewhere, furthering the "sneeze".

Interesting concept.

I explored how it pertains to radio, here:

in Newspapers Be Warned on Chris Brogan
This is sort of thing that will take a piece out of ALL traditional media.

Our radio station had a $95 000 Wedding promo and bought some space on Facebook to promote it. We could target ads to people in Vancouver. We further targeted people who had "engaged" or "in a relationship" as their status. We further sorted it to hit the target female demo of the station. Cost us < $50.

Even WE couldnt replicate that sort of niche on the radio.

great ideas, chris. what do you think radio can do?

sure, they have websites, but they're hardly relevant. music lists, cheesy jock bios, corporate templates - that's about it.

how would you help radio build the bridge between new and old media?

VW may be awful, but here you are linking to them, feeding their publicity machine and offering people a chance to "check it out for themselves"

dave I try not to play games like that. I don't build audiences or compare myself to others based on how famous I am (I don't really like being famous that much).

The reason I linked to them is because I respect people who read my site. I know they can type V-A-L-L-E-Y-W-A-G into their browser, so I figure I should make it easy for them to see what I mean, to judge for themselves.

I treat them the way I would want to be treated.

I find it really annoying when sites talk about something and don't link to it.

Here's an example.

http://www.calacanis.com/2008/02/01/great-momen...

Jason thought he caught me doing something bad (a lack of empathy). He quoted two sentences out of a multi-paragraph post, and didn't link to the actual post.

http://www.scripting.com/stories/2008/02/01/yah...

Disrespectful, in my humble opinion -- to me for sure (he was trying to put me down), but more important, to his readers.

StevenHodson Uhmm .. perhaps you didn't read close enough:

--------------------------------------------------
I am not against this happening as I do the same thing here (as you can tell when you read my feeds)
-------------------------------------------------

I clearly acknowledged the fact that I run ads. Perhaps if you read closer you would have realized that what I was saying that it is the increasing size of the banner ads along with feeds that contain more than one ad that is the problem.
