Obama has an opening to win the character debate precisely because of his oft-criticised calm steadiness and reliable restraint all through the campain. Americans want a steady leader who they can rely on to be unflappable in the face of the intoxication of power and temptation to take needless risk . Like it or not "No Drama" Obamas calm workmanlike relaxed steadiness of character in the face of crisis (going all the way back to last fall and beyond) shows the kind of reliable leadership Americans want and need. Ironically, since he is all over the map, it is actually with McCain that Americans truly do not know what they might get - other than his continued instability of character. Obama has proven that he is both ready and steady by the kind of calm relaible restrained leadership he has shown in his campaigns' smooth and well organized drive to the White House .
