The land that this house is on would sell for 1.3 right now and the house could be replaced for 250 a sq foot all in or a total of 900 k so replacement value all in is 2.2 million so i vote for 2.2 anyone see my numbers of construction cost for this house as off?

Most ballplayers today are taking homeopathic growth hormone oral spray because it's safe, undetectable, and legal for over the counter sales. As time goes on it seems it might be considered as benign a performance enhancer as coffee, aspirin, red bull, chewing tobacco, and bubble gum.

I think it will affect it, but the possible mutations required to adapt are fairly simple, so in evolutionary terms likely to occur rapidly.
I wrote a post a while back on the speed of evolutionary change in coat colour. It doesn't take that long. This does not of course mean that it will happen though. Population size and the strength of the selection pressure are also important factors.

Light certainly is a strong selection pressure for some species - like moths wasting all their energy on street lights, or turtles comming ashore at the wron spot to lay eggs. The good news is that it is easy to evolve a shift in wavelength detection. It usually only takes a single base. This seems to be a recurent theme in evolution (got a post on the evolution of trichromatic vision here http://basketofpuppies-

I never tire of staring at images of light pollution from space. It is amazing how little some parts are lit up too.
Unfortunately, I have noticed the effects of light pollution over the last few years and the number of stars visible in some remote places has definately gone down.

That's cool. Does the hexagon rotate? My initial thought was isothermal cooling as seen on basaltic colums - not sure how rgat would translate to spinning gas though.

I still do not understand how stocktwits has our twitter login information.
It has been explained to me that stocktwits is "built on twitter" but it sounds like a different company. Has twitter given our login info to other comapanies.
Picking up recommended from stocktwits without actually logging on.
Twitter is great. Getting a lot of good ideas.

To be honest, I left at the interval in disgust after realising that there would be no Q&A session. I only identified one other possible atheist (based on the fact that he didn't close his eyes either during the opening prayer). I am happy to say, that quite a few people left after the first session - many looking angry.
I remember him writing on his blog that they sold very little of their propoganda nonsense, which came as a surprise to him. It was also funny when he was listing about 6 or 7 former chrches in the area which were mow warehouses, pubs or climbing walls - given his interpretation of reality, I'm not surprised.
I was sitting next to the minister and frequently blurted out an audible "bollocks" :-)

I love the way fundies feel the need to use their qualifications (often in the wrong area).
I saw Ken Ham preach last year. He was also heavily playing on this false dichotomy. I'm also reminded of a John Wesley quote approximating "if there is one error in that book there may as well be a thousand"
In some ways, these folk remind me of "paul" talking about people with less faith and the others should not damage their fragile faith.
However, as an atheist, I have no such oblgation :-)

We only really have earth life to go by, but that does not exclude the possibility that other forms of life could use something other than water.

Sounds good. It's a shame about your teachers. I was lucky with my teachers. The really inspired me, as did a few others along the way. I think it is so important to be encouraging. Physics is not quite my thing, but I always enjoy your posts, particularly for their clarity and comprehensive nature.

i guess he passed a law that enabled him to ignore his student loan repayments too. does it really matter when the work was done?-- if this is the best that you can do to call him an outright liar- then you don't have much-- and the strange thing about lying is-- drumroll please-- everybody does it-- including you!

And I for one wouldn't say you were straight off condemned simply for not at present being able intellectually to believe in God.
The bible disagrees with that (jn 14:6). On what basis do you discard this verse?
God is love according to the Bible
Is that why he sent the flood? Take it metaphorically or literally, it is anot a message of love - "I cant stand people, I'm going to kill them!"
I guess love is different things to different people (you should read my "is god a bastard?" thread again)

in Twitter FAIL Day 3: Communications Breakdown on ParisLemon
Well although it is true that Twitter does not charge for their service I am sure they are counting the days until they either
1. add advertising into the stream
2. sell to Google which would love this kind of service
The payoff is later in the process not earlier in the development.
I am looking forward to Twitter being more stable but I do not think that anyone is trying to hang any mission critical apps off of the Twitter feed so as long as we can be patient this will be a great service in time. I know that i am really excited to watch where it all goes.

Yep, disturbing is the word.
I saw Charlie Wilson's war last night. Turns out they used god to fund the mujahideen. Best to keep god out of politics really.
Looks like Huckabee is getting some stick over evolution though http://www.richarddawkins.net/article,2129,Cana...>
