I stumbled upon your blog via Bring the Rain. I have really enjoyed browsing around and 'getting to know you'. My mom also suffers from a rare disease that is an unknown to us. She started to get it when she was in her late 30's. They don't know much about it yet. It's classified in between a cancer/auto immune disease. Anyway, I can relate through her, to your pain. It is heartbreaking. I am going to refer her to your blog. I think that it will encourage her, especially your message about strength. You certainly have it! HUGS

I discovered this site looking for info about Tom Tewell. I lived around the corner from his church in Houston. I went to his church in NYC and felt at home the moment I entered the building. But coming to this site has led me to another place -

For those who have it in for the "bad seeds" in the ministry, for those who have become "ex-Christians":

Remember that, unfortunately, Christians mess up daily. They shouldn't, but they do - just like you and just like me. Some only call themselves Christian - but they're not. They say it, but don't live it. Some mess up more than others. Some are fantastic examples of what a true Christian should be.

If you are an ex-Christian, then you've most likely been hurt by one. But the bottom line is this:

If they are your reason for becoming an "ex-Christian", then you're holding the wrong person/people accountable. Hold Christ accountable. They/I/you are and will be held accountable. Absolutely. But blaming the people, however right or wrong you are, is simply an excuse. It's a smokescreen to avoid looking at Jesus Christ and to avoid holding yourself accountable for the daily choices you make.

If you used to be a Christian and have chosen not to be anymore, then you don't know who Jesus is. Because anyone who actually has a real relationship with Christ would never dream of turning their back on Him. They wouldn't want to - not because they'd be scared or uncomfortable with it, but because He's so utterly fantastic. (A poor example, but the best I can come up with right now is that the desire to leave Him is like the desire you might have to turn down front row seats to the World Series of your favorite team.) He is amazing!

Judge the Christian all you want. Judge me all you want. Judge the church all you want. Judge those in authority all you want. But do yourself a favor, and take it one step further. Judge Jesus Christ. Actually put Him to the test, and see where you end up.

Everything and everyone else will never measure up to Him! People will always let you down at one point or another, but Christ will never let you down. I'm 41 years old. I've been a Christian since I was 8. I've screwed up a lot over the years. I've learned a lot over the years. I've grown up a lot over the years, but not once has Jesus Christ ever let me down. Not once.

Does 'Single Post View is Broken' mean 404 errors? I have a bunch of users complaining about 404 errors on single post views for entries with postlevel set - but they come up fine for me.

The code (above) posted by McShelby works really well to fix the single post 404 issue. Copy it into your post-levels.php file - but make sure to do a search and replace for the 'curved single quotes' ('smart quotes' that dont work in code) that appear in the code above - with actual single quotes. If you don't, the plugin will error out when you try to load any of your pages.

All of my private posts are showing up in the feeds even if you arent logged in or logged in as someone who shouldnt have access to them. Appending auth=no to the rss2 feed works... but that doesnt work for the atom and rss feed. I'm viewing the feeeds in firefox. Any ideas?

As to the ID of the rapper, it doesn't sound like Kanye. I started to think it was Jay-Z towards the end of the song but then I played it again and decided that the accent was off. Maybe Kid Cudi? I love vanilla. The stuff that comes in the little bottle and, oddly enough and more and more, the lifestyle that it connotes. I hardly ever get bored and I always like to think it's because I'm so fascinated by small stuff like breakfast cereals and house smells.

I feel like there are lots of ways for me to stay in one place and not feel like I'm stagnating, but I'm guessing that's not true for you. Because normally I'd say in order to not stagnate you have to find love in the day-to-day -- but you have a great deal of that, a lot of work to do and things to think about and reach for -- and you still ache for more. I don't really have any answers, but I think it's fantastic that you can find joy in the details but still reach for the grand.

I think it is silly for them not to let your daughter go. I understand that these restrooms get trashed, but the fact that you personally asked would mean they know who was in there. I am pregnant and have had to ask for private restrooms several times. Luckily they have catered to my immediate needs. I just read a customer service book
that talked about companies today and how they miss the customer service side of things. I found it very interesting.

Nice blog. The news tends to focus on negitives stories and not enough postive. The media needs doesn't tend to focus on the things that we need to truly be worried about. Like the social security going bankrupt and not being able to collect when we're elibible to. Moreover, alot americans carry so much debt and don't save for retirment they're gonna be screwed when they can no longer can work.

For me, it is impossible to go to Allen Fieldhouse without getting a tear in my eye at some point - either during the pre-game video on the scoreboard, during the alma mater, during the Rock Chalk Chant. It is an amazing place with such great history. There are very few places like it. Glad you got to experience it...even if you were cheering for the wrong team.

I studied in Spain a few years ago, and it is a bit gut-wrenching to watch a bull fight from an animal rights perspective, and I'm not sure how I personally feel about the practice. I think it would be something Spaniards would solely have to come to a consensus about.

The most significant parts of the event, as I've come to understand it, are two-fold: the grace of the bullfighter and the symbolism of the event. It really can be entrancing to watch an experienced matador; it looks like an intricately choreographed dance with the bull. I was told the entire bull fight is viewed as a metaphor for life and death- for us, as for the bull in the arena, death is inevitable, unavoidable when your time comes.

Sometimes bull fighting can digress into mere spectacle, but I just thought I'd chime in that bull fighting is not merely the killing of an animal for sport. There is a lot of history as well.

So, John, what manner of discussion would you suggest? Adopting the Nike-esque attitude of "just doing it" can easily put more carbon into the environment and sink our collective ship all the faster. These are complex problems with complex solutions.

I agree that talk is cheap, but many of the proposed solutions carry costs as well - economic and environmental. Ignoring them doesn't make them go away. Addressing them is the only way to make progress of any sort.

In the late 60's people marched and shouted on the streets to make their voices heard. Doesn't work much any more for a number of reasons. Blogging seems to offer some opportunities for shaming the shills and propaganda artists. But it is still nearly impossible to penetrate and effect the extremely unbalanced venues of the back halls of Congress, cable news, talk radio, and WSJ op ed columns - where captive audiences are driven to back useless or downright destructive public policy making.

My gut says that only truly massive youth GOTV campaign can turn things around in Congress.

My rational mind tells me that aligning with industries that are pushing the green entrepreneurial spirit for all its worth will help drive change from the top down as well.

I think it's a plausible explanation, and I don't see what's so wrong about it. If these retailers see the negative impacts of global warming at least through decline in sales, then maybe they'll be more inclined to help fight it.

At least they're not benefitting from global warming. They're being negatively affected by it - as are rest of us on this planet - and they should act out to stop it - as should the rest of us on this planet.

There should be no change with early voting system, and we especially should not shorten it to starting a week or two before the election. I had to vote early; otherwise I would have had to vote absentee. So, I still would have had to cast my vote early but in a more complicated manner.

If I had the choice, I would have voted today, because I knew there were risks. But unlike some people, I weighed the risks. I was tempted to vote for Edwards, but I knew that there was a chance he would drop out. I ended up voting for someone whoâ€™s still in the race.

Besides, arenâ€™t we overlooking a small detailâ€”the delegates. In this election, our votes count more so for electing delegates (which is more true for Republicans). If a candidate dropped out of the race, but they got enough votes, then at least some of their delegates go to the convention (itâ€™s a long shot, I know, but itâ€™s still a possibility).

You know what, thereâ€™s a chance that we could feel disenfranchised no matter who we vote forâ€”whether our candidate drops out, loses, or fails to keep their campaign promises. All we can do is suck it up and try to keep our elected officials accountable for their actions.

Neat stash - I have that same 'old' blue backpack - I used it for my son until he weighed 20 pounds & I thought I would collapse. :) Now i have a Patapum instead. :)

You posted last week (or the week before) about following a tooth/teeth led feeding schedule with your kids (starting foods based on what teeth they have), but I googled it and haven't been able to find anything! I have been meaning to write back about my feelings on weaning. I alluded to it a bit in my not me post (about taking a breastpump to the BWCA), but I wanted to answer you directly to say that YES, I am sad. She's my last baby and I wanted her to stay that way as long as possible. I really could care less about being able to drink. It's been so long since I could, it doesn't bother me.

It IS nice that when it's naptime I can get away with a giving her a hug, a kiss, a book, and a paci and she's on her own within 20 sec. I remember when Sam was like that when I weaned him at 13 months.

You are in my thoughts in prayers my friend.

(Eden was one of the names my niece had for about 2 hours on Friday before my sister settled on Lily)

I'm always amazed at how different every woman's body handles pregnancy and labor.

Seeing those precious pics of Ozzie makes me even more anxious to snuggle with my sister's baby. She was 7cm last time I talked to her. Our other sister had just arrived at the hospital and I've got the phone by my side at all times.

My sister is walking around at 3cm and 100% effaced. (She was due yesterday)
Me? I was begging for my epidural before I was 2cm with Julia. I was trying to go drug-free with Sam so I was 15 hours into it before I screamed for the drug that makes me feel better (I was in so much pain that I forgot the word epidural. Ha!)
I'm surprised they let you get an epidural that late in the game - obviously you need it since your babies take so long to drop.

Praying for a safe delivery!

Wow! You have a HUGE list to choose from Brittany! How fun!! Would love to hear some of your favorites.
I met a little girl named Lilia at a playdate at Mck Mama's house one day and the name has stuck with me ever since. It's different but not hard to spell (I'm with you on that being important) and I think it's beautiful. I have no doubt you'll do a great job picking the perfect names for your sweet peas. You mentioned waiting until you saw each of your boys before deciding. Was it rather quickly then that the names came to you or were you like me and took a day or two to decide?
Our last name ending in an "e" sound put the kibosh on many many names. You not only have to take your last name into consideration but the cadence you want when you say their names. What are your thoughts on rhyming names or names that start with the same letter?
Like Tiffany, I could squeal too. :)

CUTE dress btw in your previous post.

I brought our old microwave with us when we moved in 4 weeks ago, but it is still sitting in the garage. I think it's time to officially cut the cord don't you? It's been almost 2 years since I used it on a regular basis.

As for the person who asked how to heat up leftovers I'll offer this suggestion: We use a toaster oven or there's a handy electric table top oven called an Aroma Oven that cuts the cooking time in half for regular baking and works well for heating things up.

I hadn't even thought about the aluminum in the base of our air popper. Yikes! I'll have to tell my husband. Aluminum is the one thing that he's very against having in our home.

Great. My kids were eating peaches all week.

I haven't shared this on my blog yet, but I will soon...I plan to do my own version of a detox starting June 1st. Only fruits and veggies for the first week - maybe two. I need to see if my body is reacting to wheat or dairy, not to mention all the junk food I've been consuming over the past six months. It'll be good to have some accountability by sharing my plan publicly.

I agree - cheez it's are really salty. We stick to "hop-hop" crackers around here too.

I can't wait to get Julia outside in her puddle boots soon (once the 5 inches of snow we're getting today melts). She had to wear her winter boots when we were out last week because one of her puddle boots was in the shop. (aka at Grandma and Grandpa's) getting a hole repaired. Poor thing fell on her face twice as well as in deep puddles many times, but couldn't get enough of the fresh air. It's going to be a busy summer with two kids running in opposite directions. How do you do it?

Forgot to add one more thing: We wrap our food in wax paper to avoid aluminum coming in contact with our food. MCK Mama told me that she heard someone talk at MOPS once about wax paper bags. I haven't gone to the trouble of finding where to buy them yet.

This is great Brittany! I printed out the list of safe plastics to put on my frig. We don't use much around here, but I want to watch the containers our food come in to know which I should transfer the food from when I get home from the store.
I think I remember reading that same thing about the Avent sippy cups. What's strange though is that their bottles are one of the worse leachers of BPA from what I've heard. I second you on the microwave . I love that Mercola article. I've linked to that one myself before in an old post. Even with our stove/oven out of commission I'm so used to thinking of the microwave as bad for you that I can't bring myself to use it.

Target sells some pretty heavy duty covered custard cups in their baking section if people are looking for strong glass bowls. Pampered Chef prep bowls are the greatest, but aren't as affordable.

Keep up the great work! I appreciate your insights very much.

Oh and I never got back to you on the diapers - I use Kissaluvs diapers and Kushies wraps. It will be a year in March that I switched over to cloth. I'm not as consistant about it as I'd like to be, especially since I have a girl who shouldn't sit in those chlorine laced disposables, but I will always use disposable at night.

We just got a small antennae after being "tv free" for almost 2 years. We have survived just fine and since we have this one random channel we can pick up (Qubo) my kids have enjoyed it a little too much.
My son gets really upset when I make them turn it off because "when we turn it off it skips!" ha ha, not like a DVD that they can stop and start at will.

i finally sat & read this thing....g-dammti. i had to run out, take the day off of work, drive 30+ min to see the movie, drive to borders AFTER the movie to read the next one.

well, well.

i'm always taken back & humbled by the courage people have when they hold that mirror up to themselves. facing the things they know deep down need help....putting it out there for someone to see. it's hard and sadly, it's the easy part because next is figuring out what to do ---but stickin' to it.

you're not alone. you know that though.

none of us are perfect and will never be perfect. your house will never be clean all the time. you know you can't be everywhere at once and everything to everyone.and when you try to do that--you will burn out and become bitter.

i applaud you. because you've taken it a step forward & not only put your shit out there for a therapist...Or "LIFE COACH" as i refer to them as...but to us. your supporters, your advocates & yes, maybe even your "devils" advocate at times.

you will learn it and then you will share it--so we don't have to suffer like you. your taking one for the team, LOL.

as always, i'm also at your side, cheering you on like i tried in the 7th grade cheerleading with those stupid black poly shorts....lol

hmm ... that is a very good debate - i was allowed to celebrate in all things halloween so maybe my opinion isnt exactly the best (i think it is though) the MR. i think needs to be re-live halloween as through the kiddies eyes - he needs to dress up scarey and spook kids as he passes them candy and then hold the little babies hands as they get candy dropped into their buckets aka pillow cases for the old school trick o treaters - dont be scared MR! halloween is only "evil" if you let it be - its one of the only times that you can run around as something scarey or as a princess and NO ONE cares at all plus you get a bonus of getting candy for doing it!! its a win win situation! I know my step dad was never into halloween at all - he would stay home and pass out candy dressed in normal clothes - well my mom decided to make a haunted house in the garage one year and i swear he had more fun scaring kids in that garage then ive seen him have in a LONG time and ever since then he makes an effort FOR my mom to participate and secretly i know he's having a blast! Anyways i wish you the best in your debate and i cant wait to see pictures of ALL the family dressed up =) hope that helped xxoo

Hello Everyone, I have been reading your comments you guys are so great to each other. So this is my fisrt day and I am still wondering how I will do. I am doing it with a driend who has done this prior. She says having support is the key so I hope she is right. The lemonade is not bad at all, the Saline is hossitble but oh well I will deal with it. So what do you suggessted when someone is ready to quit. I would like to make it through all 10 days but I am not sure if i can. My firend said if you go for the 4 days and think you want to quit then go ahead but she tells me after day 4 you do not even want to eat. Good luck to everyone.

Consider it a lesson. Turning your nose up at wine can lead to missing out on a great sensory experience. I don't particularly like chardonnay but was pleasantly surprised at how wonderful it tastes when paired with cheddar cheese. If I hadn't been in a class, I probably wouldn't have been open to the experience.
