Great post! In my line of work we've sometimes realized too late when we shouldve "folded" on certain clients. However, I'm now challenged to work harder at making sure the good ones get more appreciation from me.

I think using social media as a tool and not as means to create for publicizing my identity, and keeping the two separate, is an approach I'm very comfortable with.

The other day I got a link in to my blog from someone searching my full name. I thought "should I be worried/freaked out?".

Then when I realize that all of my social media accounts, my blog, including my Linked in account, are all things I want people accessing because I want the traffic.

But I don't use social media as a way to identify myself to my friends. True we are all branding ourselves and our short little profiles as bloggers. But that is a brand and not a person's identity. I see so many sites and Myspace pages dedicated to "What I Like" "Top Ten Fav. Movies" etc. and thus that media wasted as a tool and a primary way for people to create an online identity. Maybe it's a form of catharsis for them.

I guess the point is specifically knowing what you're using social media for and accepting what comes with each endeavor.

I was 8 years old and that's the first World Series I remember watching. Even as a Jr. Braves fan wearing my Ocean Pacific T shirt, I was blown away by the magic of that homer and see Tommy sprint from the dugout with his arms open to hug Gibson. And of course, the fist pump was the oft imitated.

Of course I'm not sure how long it'll be before we're watching the Braves in the World Series again the way things are looking...

Man I loved watchin' ol' Bedrock pitch for us when I was a kid. When we brought him back over in the mid '90's I remember some of the players (i'm drawing a blank on who at the moment) started wearing 'Rock Socks in honor of Steve.

There was just something I loved about watching Bedrosian pitch. That nickname brings me back!

I'll tell you one thing.

I don't care very much for the Yankees but they did have some classy players every now and then.

Phil, Yogi, you could say Mickey Mantle beyond his drinking, Lou Gerigh.

Even though I thought the All Star Game ceremony was grossly overblown, it was kinda cool to see the history and pageantry around old Yankee Stadium.

I got this shirt this year and I make sure to wear it to as many baseball games as I can or out on the weekend so people know I'm a true baseball scholar.

There's some pretty good Braves books I've read lately including one about the Atlanta Crackers that's good for you historians.

However, one of the best baseball novels I read was "The Natural". The movie made some changes but both are excellent.

I wouldn't say I'm "comparing" this lousy Braves team to the worst ones in history.

This was just a way to make us feel a little better about 2008 and have fun remembering some of the awfulness over the years.

I agree Bud, it is tricky to draw direct comparisons between the two clubs. There are always more factors at work like culture, environment, history, location, stadium. So I don't want to portray that this is the only reason the Marlins have struggled with drawing a crowd lately.

My point was more focused on one factor I believe caused the Marlins to decline despite their championships rather than what made the Cubs increasingly popular.

Well it's kind of nice to hear a Mets fan say he only hates us after the Phils, Fish, and Nats. For me the "hate" with the Mets is a rivalry that I enjoy. Hating a team for me is about hating the players and how the team is run and so many other things. I have more respect for the Mets this year and have enjoyed all the connections I've made with Mets fans this year so it's hard to "hate" them in the same way you hate the Nats. I enjoy playing the Mets and beating them but that's because it's a really good rivalry to me.

Thing is... most of us true Braves fans have some level of contempt for Rocker too. The guy was poison in the clubhouse. Not only did he say the things he did about NY fans, he took shots at our own players (Randall Simon at the time). He had some good saves but I can't say he wore the Braves uniform well.

As I've investigated this story a little more it seems the throwing is what's really bothering Chipper. Thus, the pinch hits.

It was the fact that he said he couldn't hit righty and then blasted that 3 run homer that made me think maybe he wanted to coast into the title.

This guy made an interesting suggestion... I don't know what I think about it though.

Some classics here to revisit if you've read before. Can't go wrong with any of these selections but my favorite of the lot is "The Tipping Point" Also check out "Blink" by Gladwell. Not a biz book but a great read.
