in WordPress word of mouth marketing plugin on Dave Rigotti
Ordinarily to use the code from AddThis.com you need to sign up for a free account - the benefit is that you can log back in and view "stats" from the code snippet to track how many people are bookmarking pages from your site, which specific pages and to which bookmarking services, etc.

Does your plugin do something similar? How would one go about tracking the stats for this plugin?

in Comment Policy on Fun with WordPress
Andrew I agree with you. Although a link is nice, it is not the reason I comment on other people's blogs. I only do so if I feel I have something to contribute or some important feedback (or thanks) to give. I say do what works best for you and your blog. I imagine that you'll still get the "quality" comments from folks who really want to participate, and you'll weed out the link-spammers. Good luck!

in Template tags or settings? on Fun with WordPress
I think adding a Settings would be better - the reason is that if you offer a template tag that needs to be inserted into a Theme file then SOME users will not be able to do this without messing up their Theme (a small minority, granted) however that still presents two other problems: 1) if the user switches Themes they will need to update every Theme they want to use, and 2) if the plugin is deactivated (for any reason) then the Theme can break - an invalid function call can prevent parts of the Theme's files and styles from loading........

in Spam Bloggers Who Backdate on Plagiarism Today
Hi Jonathan - I manage a large number of blogs for clients, and the biggest frustration I run into is that many of the scrapers I've had trouble with have no contact link or info on their sites (many of them are clearly just "made for adsense" sites), and even checking the domain via a Whois search often yields no results with the prevalence of private domain registration information - sometimes a registrar will respond, often not - so it's difficult to get the offending duplicate content removed when there's no one I can contact......clients don't like to hear "there's nothing we can do"..... I do report them to Google when I find them, but it would still be nice if there were other (easy) avenues or tools.

I'm really glad we have a resource like you to turn to for advice and help.

in Page Ordering in WordPress 2.5 on Fun with WordPress
It's a good start, but only really useful if you have just a very few pages - since it uses a numbering order schema, any time you add a new page that you want 'inserted' somewhere you'd have to renumber all your existing pages.....It does at least give the user options but I hope they will continue to work on this issue....

In the meantime I'll keep using one of my most valued plugins, My Page Order , which I love.
