Like Jeremiah, I had some big issues with PayPerPost but after speaking with Ted earlier this year, I'm much more open to Izea as a concept that works. That's largely because even though it still made me squirm a bit, I couldn't come up with one good reason why this was flat out a bad idea - even if it's better for some blogs than others.

Meanwhile, thanks CK for sharing the media sponsorship policy. As an epilogue, I couldn't get to the events that I was promoting so when a renewal option came up I passed on it. It didn't feel authentic. Yet if related opportunities come up the sponsorship policy will still stand, and I still do keep it prominent in the upper-right of the blog.

Re: Sending customers away and firing your own customers

Most questions like this can easily be answered by Google and the like; it's not like the information's not out there. If someone asks me what the major digital marketing agencies are and who does good work, I'll tell them. (Privately, as a friend, I'll tell them who to be extra cautious of too.) By serving as a resource, you provide much more value.

As you mention with consultants, it's all about relationships and finding the right service provider. It's not necessarily that you'll be able to provide better data or my company will get the unquestionably better ROI.

Re: What happens when you become a Facebook Fan

Two thoughts on this:
1) For an advertiser or agency, you're not opted in by default. You have to select this option. Now, it's possible to select it without really understanding what it does, and a lot of that will depend on how familiar you are with Facebook as there's a learning curve, but this is clearly an option.
2) Only months after the post referenced here did I find a way, from the consumer end, to change my privacy settings and opt out of getting 'hijacked' like that, as referenced in the comments. It took me posting something on a Facebook message board to learn how to do this. While I applaud the granularity of control in Facebook's privacy settings, they still need to make it easier to opt out of certain elements in the most relevant time and place.

Re: Just Downloaded Google Talk

Though some will bristle at the privacy implications, I like that it automatically stores chat conversations in Gmail, as there's often info in chats that I want to access later.

Re: Video: Day of the Longtail

Aww, and I get some of the love too? Thanks for the mention, Jeremiah.

Re: So what’s the scale threshold?

Well said, and thanks for the embed (I love that it's so easily trackable on SlideShare too).

The follow-up is that it's 250 views after a few days. But now it's on my blog, and Slideshare, and your blog, and Twitter. Google 'luxor sucks' without quotes and the presentation's 1, and my blog is 4, so Google already sees this stuff has having some authority. Will it ever rank for 'Luxor'? Will some Technorati 100 blogger stumble on this after he has a bad stay there next CES and share it? Will it just come up as a word of mouth anecdote ("Some guy hated the Luxor enough that he created a whole powerpoint around it!") in ways that the Luxor won't be able to track?

There are varying possibilities of these events, but today it's not good for them, and there's the chance that it will get far, far worse.

Re: Paint The Town Red - The First Wednesday Cocktail Club convened...

Great seeing you there too, once again.

Re: DMA08 Las Vegas Internet Marketing Roundup

Hey Lee, hope to run into you here.
