Actually its a maximum of 147,8 personal connections.
I wrote a thesis (first of its kinf in french) "Facebook, Myspace, online social network services and new communication behaviors" and quoted this extract from Dunbar's "Co-Evolution Of Neocortex Size, Group Size And Language In Humans" :

"the suggestion here is simply that there is an upper limit on the size of groups that can be maintained by direct personal contact.
The second point is that the limit imposed by neocortical processing capacity is simply on the number of individuals with whom a stable inter-personal relationship can be maintained. This in no sense commits us to any particular way of structuring those groups"

Dunbar explained the emergence of larger groups (Nation-States for ex) by the use of the language as a social bonding mechanism. Still, many "primitive" groups are no larger than 150.

My thesis conclusion was that the SocNets are freeing the humans from their physiological restraints to communication. And yeah, that stalking cute girls on facebook is fun too.

Re: Facebook Status: Twitter Rival. Could it? Should it?

There is already an RSS feed for status updates ! I use it constantly to keep in touch with my friends, and I encourage them to micro-blog "a la " Twitter. Even with its grammar inflexibility, its still an useful integrated tool.

Re: How to Stop That Facebook Addiction

I suffered from a service interruption for more than 5 hours this morning, I almost killed myself. I'm not even addicted, I can quit when I want. Very nice indeed !

Re: Facebook Advertising Gone Bad

The campaign was on seesmic too, and the marketer in charge is talking about that in an on-going discussion on seesmic about desensibilization.
In my opinion, its a failure of Alternate Reality Game : if it does not look like a game, then its misleading viewers and they can eventually freak out.

Re: Battle: Tweetie vs TwitterFon

Great review here ! I really like how you put the stress on the interface design. Very well done, I have been reading over a dozen of comparative reviews about the two apps, and your post is by far the most interesting with the deepest thinking. Thanks !

Re: PepsiCo
