in Sick of Exabytes on Meshio.com - a Malaysia personal finance blog
I've been developing some websites for a few local clients, some hosted on Exabytes and I can assure you their servers go down every single mother f* day. What pisses me off, they go down during after lunch presentations and that got me f* hard as I was the one providing the hosting (reseller).

Avoid at all cost. They have many staff but I guess all staff just play2 at office and don't do shit.

Um no. The crisis was sparked by over leveraged banks, and idiotic investment practices. Blame does not reside in a single party either. Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act started it (under Clinton).

1) Banks make loans to people with bad credit and insufficient income at stupid rates to buy houses. They convince the rubes that they just have to hold the house for a while and refi as soon as the value has gone up enough to pay back the loan (cause real estate will increase in value... exponentially... forever... right)

2) Banks package these loans into mortgage backed securities and sell them to investors. The way that they were structured meant that the attached S&P rating was essentially pointless but investors bought them anyways. Fed was holding down rates so you had lots of money flying around. So now the bad mortgages have been distributed around and the poison spreads. As an added bonus folks like AIG insure these bad investments.

3) Continues like this for a while until the housing bubble becomes unsustainable and they run out of buyers. Lack of buyers pushes down price. Pushed down price means the idiots in 1) can't refi to pay back the loan they should have never gotten in the first place. They foreclose, adding another house to the market, driving prices down further, causing a cascading foreclosure problem.

4) Banks panic, seeing their house of cards collapse around them and suddenly realize no one is willing to buy their MBSs anymore. So now they are sitting on bad debt and realized they are over leveraged 25:1. Hence credit crunch.

So yes, you and Gov Sanford are both clueless. What do you do in bad times? Deficit spend. It worked in the past and will work now (or are you one of the loons who believes that FDR caused the depression or some other nonsense?). Problem is that you are supposed to then NOT deficit spend in good times and actually build a surplus. That way when the next bubble comes around, you have the surplus to deficit spend without causing harmful levels of inflation.

Yes, our society's spending habits are incredibly naive and foolish. Spending forever and building ever larger deficits is a time bomb that must be stopped as soon as possible. But not now. If you don't deficit spend in a recession, it can turn into a depression.

What is worse: building a trillion in debt or, 20% unemployment, deflation, and collapse of world trade. Wait don't answer. I've had enough wingnuttery for today. Just go ahead and move along with your economics expertise you got from fox business or CNBC while the rest of us profit in the climate.

Recession caused by debt? Is he totally clueless? In order to offer a solution to a problem, it's best to actually UNDERSTAND THE PROBLEM before talking out of your a** with "solutions".

Idiots.

in Ace and Jocelyn Poster Contest Winner! on Jake and Amir
i guess we have differing opinions then. i see your points but the trailer contest didn't involve creating and then relinquishing rights to an original piece of art that would be sold with no monetary compensation. the other designs on bustedposters are created by designers who most likely got fairly paid for their work, so i think it should be the same for this competition. considering the resources of jake and amir, collegehumor, connected ventures, etc, i think they could have swung something better.

as for recognition and exposure, that's debatable considering there is no mention in the rules that any credit will be given on the bustedposters site or how long the poster will even be available. it's easy for artists to get burned like this when it comes to getting credit for their work, especially on the internet.

to be honest the moment i read the competition i was excited at the prospect, but the lack of any real regulations felt like a total devaluing of any artist's work. anyway, this is just my opinion, i don't want to get involved in some message board war but i could at least state my point. jake and amir lost a bit of love from at least this one fan.

in Ace and Jocelyn Poster Contest Winner! on Jake and Amir
i never said i would have won. i just don't think the 'winner' is treated fairly. if other people are fine with the terms, kudos. but unlike the trailer competition that was up here earlier, this contest seems like a pretty cheap way to treat fans of your work.
cdawg oh please. how else is "yeesh. i should have submitted something if that one won" supposed to be interpreted but that you thought the level of work submitted was well below the work you would have submitted?

and with the trailer contest, if remember correctly, the prize was an autographed jake and amir tshirt. how is that a better prize than autographed professionally produced product of your design, along with the exposure and recognition that comes with OTHER PEOPLE purchasing your design?

that seems like a pretty amazing opportunity for a jake and amir fan.

cdawg but by insulting the competition (which, had you deigned to participate in, you certainly would have won), are you not also insulting the people who took it seriously and actually did participate?

yeesh, i should've submitted something if that one won. then again, i like to get at least adequate payment for the work i do, not a signed copy of something i designed and no longer own.

shredded wheat Wow, excuse factory. You're the same guy who's been sitting in his bedroom since film school bitching about how no one will give you money to write your first feature, or talking about how you can't be in a band until you find a halfway decent amp, am I right? Call us in 40 years when you're still living in your mom's basement waiting for the world to congratulate you before you deign to participate.
cdawg i would have submitted something that definitely would have won, but i'd rather wait until someone else does the work, and then bitch about how i could have done better while simultaneously insulting the person for even trying.

The SATs are culturally biased against race and socioeconomic status, and are a pretty poor signal of raw intelligence. You could argue the same thing about literacy, which is more a product of environment than innate ability. Considering Freakonomics is near the top of the "smart list", it's surprising that this statistical "study" does such a remarkable job of ignoring the basic principle of ceteris paribus.

Matt "The SATs are culturally biased" - against recent immigrants I presume. Not against people who grew up in the US.

in Diversity Training Backfires on OpenMarket.org
"Psychiatry went through a similar moment with group therapy. It turns out that underqualified therapists did more damage than good."

Yeah, and phrenology was an excellent tool until all those underqualified hacks took over.

Some fads in professions are really dumb ideas no matter who employes them. It often takes the reductio ad absurdum of seeing people who cannot obscure their obtuse and useless methods behind fine words before the fads are blow apart.

Corporations know such training is crap. It is simply insurance against Jesse Jackson-style shakedowns of large corporations.

When it comes to any social science-spawned activity like therapy, diversity training, etc., I always ask if you can in any way measure the alleged positive outcome. My rule is if people promoting the activity cannot provide me a reasonably sane *measurable* indicator of social improvement resulting from their activity, they are probably charlatans looking for a paycheck.*

* That rule has a codicil for people who take it to the point of getting killed to demonstrate their committment to their suggested program (e.g., Ghandi, Jesus, MLK Jr.).

Romney's people were posting predictions, rumors and whispers that 'its Romney' all over the right side blogoshere on Sunday. I think the Romnoids really believed they had it--right up until it was announced for Fred.
SkinnerVic You're exactly right, and if you read the text I would agree with that type of conclusion, since he slams everyone *except* Romney and Fred. Kay Henderson from Radio Iowa Blog hit that nail on the head with a follow-up question:

"After the event, I asked King if he had made up his mind on the spot as he was
speaking this morning."

"You have great intuition," King replied.

Did he change his mind or was it done that way intentionally? We may never know, and it's fine with me either way since it wasn't pushing Huck.

Cap'n sez: "Rudy Giuliani -- All Hizzoner has to do is stay out of the way and look presidential. The CNN/YouTube debate took a bite out of his momentum. He has to keep the debate focused on immigration and fiscal discipline and away from social policy. " Rudy focus on immigration? Don't think you meant that. Rudy needs to keep the focus on the war against Islamic nuts and fiscal discipline. Talking immigration ad nauseum last time worked against him.

Having an 0-16 team is not good for the NFL. Anybody see any part of the Pittsburgh-Miami game last week, in which both teams went scoreless until the 4th Q, when Pitt hit a FG to 'win' a big 3-0 victory?? Ugly, really ugly. I could only take it for a half, then went to the Outdoor channel to watch bass fishing.

NoDonkey I'm a Steelers fan and it was an ugly game, but the field was a complete mess. It rained 1.3 inches that day.

The Steelers brought in new turf. And the whole reason that they had to do that, was because they hosted 4 high school championship games on Thanksgiving Day and the University of Pittsburgh had played the Saturday before the game.

The Rooneys do a lot for the city. They could tell the high school teams to take a hike, but they don't'.

Actually, I like weather games. There's nothing more dull to me than a 45-42 dome game. Too much like basketball.
jerry I think the Pittsburgh-Miami game was one of the most enjoyable games I have ever watched. It was like a throwback game to the 1920s. I was rooting for a 0-0 time at least in regulation.
