I think I would tinker with the fonts, e.g. make them a little bigger, little more readable for older eyes...

We have a bunch of people using Sysem 7 on Netbooks. So far no one is complaining about the experience.
Not hard to install, and seems to run very well. You might consider trying it

Pop!Tech came about because of a group people in Camden, ME wanted to get together and talk about the intersection of ideas and technology. No reason that couldn't happen in the SE. You have some pretty places, great weather, good food, etc.
So, just do it, start small, organize it around a theme, get a college involved, etc. Not impossible, but you have to start somewhere.

Making the plans would be easy, and I suppose if you allocated 1/3 of the price to each of the three compoonents, e.g. rock concert/leaning/networking it might be justificable, particularly if you had either a company that could justify it, or a higher net worth than I have.
I learned a while back that you meet some pretty interesting people when you are flying first class.

I would love to go to TED, but it is twice the price of Pop!Tech. Pop!Tech allows you to kick back and just listen to smart people who can help you answer the question that Dave poses, e.g. what do you want to do with the rest of your life.
It seems to me that a significant part of business/economic success is the result of a lot of discipline and focus. With events like Pop!Tech or TED, you can sit back, and just listen, and think, and truly enjoy the brilliance of the people who have been asked to speak.
I frankly wish there were more events like them and that they were more accessible.

in What made me cry: Microsoft’s World Wide Telescope on Scobleizer
To echo what Robert just said, I asked the same question, e.g. how are going to charge for the WWT, and the answer was that Microsoft was giving it to the world, so that people could build upon it. For those of you above who have indicated even a drop of cynicism or skepticism about the WWT, wait until you see it, there is nothing out there that I have seen that even comes close. It is an order of magnitude better, and simply dazzling...and really so much fun to experience. When I saw it, the people in the room were blown away.

As the guy who suggested to Robert that he check out what Curtis was doing, I am not sure that I have a vocabulary to describe the brilliance of the product. My humble take is that it is going to change forever how people think about the sky/astronomy, etc.
It is dazzling...find a way to see it, check it out and, and just marvel.

For those of us who were there, Marc's question was legitimate. But his timing was awful! The iLike guys were great, it was a lovely party, they were celebrating their success, their team, their guests and the evening. All Marc had to do was wait for them to finish, and then ask if could ask a question. I doubt anyone would have objected in any way.
My take was that Kara's comment was not about the question, but the fact that Marc interupted the guys who built iLike, were thanking everyone and to the best I can tell are enjoying some great success.
When I told Robert to write about the table, it was also because we had a great time talking with a group of top notch people. Writers who work hard, write for first class traditional media organizations, and while I don't always agree with what they write, they all work hard, and always treated me with nothing but respect.
It was an honor and delight to be at the party.
It seems to me that there is a real important synergy between the press, those who build companies and products, and those who put on conferences. We all need each other. No body forces you to build a company/product, pitch the press, or go to a conference.
But if you want to enjoy enjoy the kind of success the iLike guys enjoying, it probably will pay to figure out the formula that works, and treat people the way you want to be treated.

Take a look at our product, i.e. ActiveWords, and look at our Outlook agent, http://www.activewords.com/plusapplications.html
Also, look at our scripting materials. My guess is that you will be able to script a lot of things in Outlook.
