Its the schools fault. They should have never gone after him, gotta wonder what they were thinking. If they were going to keep him they should have made that abundantly clear to him. My guess is he was told to back out

He should definitely redshirt. You don't have many 7 footers come around and he is going to be on the bench most of the year. We can use him in the coming years especially with Crean going after so many little guys. Its strange he is a project. ESPN ranked him a 93/100 (whatever that means) and second only to Watford at IU. (Info is still up I just checked, have to be an insider though) I don't get in to recruiting much and this is why. No one really knows anything about these players til they play. Though it seems like with most big men they are either good and dominate from the start or it never happens. I can't remember many projects becoming great players.

So what happens when the next round of rankings come out and this guy is a top 100 recruit, would everyone before it then? 6-6 athletic kid, grade A student, that has a reputation for getting after it on the boards and playing defense and can knock down 3's.

While you are free to speak when you are basing your arguements on rankings that are done by 1 or 2 people per site, I will take a college coach who will get fired over taking a bad recruits as opposed to a ranking service where their jobs aren't on the line.

I don't follow recruiting I have no clue if these high schoolers are good or not. Right or wrong, I rate how good an offer or commitment is by who else was interested or offered. NU, Stanford and GW don't exactly rank as the cream of the crop.

agreed, people have to realize its not the 1980's anymore and the game has changed. the game is much tougher and you have to have tough players. Dumes was one of the few last year not intimidated. He may shoot too much at times but he brings toughness and attitude. Hope he plays quite a bit

I was wondering about that but maybe Crean just means he needs to be even more in shape. He could be at the same place he was last year, but it's just not enough anymore. For Pritchard's sake, I hope that's the case.

Odd that Pritchard would show up out of shape, he is already slow and not athletic. After the football team's performance last week bball can't come soon enough.

It just goes to show players want someone they think will lead them to the NBA. If it works out Isiah could turn FIU into a poor man's Memphis. FIU has something a lot of other schools don't, weather and South Beach.

Any chance the NCAA is going to look into fact family is moving to Bloomington? Seems strange a family can afford to just pick up and move so their kid can play bball near where he is going to school. I mean where are they going to work, not like Bloomington is a busling metropolis of jobs

The SEC doesn't recruit well, see one McD's All American next year. They are football schools except for UK. Kids want two things from their school in my opinion to go to the NBA and be "the man" on campus. Calipari has a rep for getting players to the NVA and UK is the only school in SEC where that can happen. I live in FL and can tell you every UF fan would rather the football team win 1 title than the bball team win ever. Its probably the same at the other schools too. He will have so much more talent than the other schools it will be ridiculous. Donovan was an idiot not to take the job

I don't completely agree with the article but I do believe he'll field a top 10 program consistently and win a couple of titles. He will dominate the SEC like CUSA (though thats not saying much) The man is a recruiting machine, and as far as Camby that was him and an agent, not a recruiting violation. I'm not sure why he gets such a bad rep, no one says anything about UNC which gets all great recruits. I assume its because Memphis is not a great school and its easy to get in to, but thats not because of Calipari, the school has always been easy to get into.

Yes, lets keep working toward winning Big Ten and National Championships AND let's try to do it without any players that might be TOO good. I still wonder why that Jeffries kid was recruited to IU, myself. I mean he only stayed two years.

Your silly. Ferguson is a 2010 recruit, which means he would be on that 2011 tournament team you have such grand plans toward.

It couldn't hurt to ask if he's reopening his recruitment, and if he does, by all means go after him. (Well, not by ALL means.)

I don't think that Ferguson would be that type of player at Indiana, but that's very open to discussion, because I believe that Watford will take away a lot of Ferguson's minutes. I think that he would stay on the team basically because he wouldn't be as big of a star if he were at a place where there was no credible SF present.

I'd be surprised to see a possible one and done type player which he could be come to IU right now. Most seem to go to a program that has a good shot of winning a title or helping make him a pro. IU doesn't really offer either right now. Crean doesn't have a huge track record of successful pro players besides Wade. Not a knock just a fact. I think I'd rather him go somewhere else anyway unless he would be at IU for at least 2 years. Next year is really a year where you need to just play and get accustomed to the system so hopefully they can make a tourney run in 2011.

Glad its over. Very impressed with how Jones improved and improved greatly. Sadly I thought he was one of few players to really improve a great deal. Went from looking clueless to being by far the most consistent player. Now he just needs to get on the cream and the clear and put on about 20 lbs.

funny how VJ turned his season around, went from people calling for him to transfer or warm the bench and questioning whether he would play when Hulls shows up, to being the best player on the team by the end of the year. good to see someone improve greatly from the begining of the year

Not sure how concerns about someon 6' tall getting shots off is unwarranted. I don't think that is criticism either, HS and college aren't the same and neither are the players. He definitely looks like he can handle the ball. I hope he is great.

I think the 61pts a game is misleading, no team playing IU is playing their hardest on D, they don't need to. With that said I agree with Jerry, we need some stoppers on D, something Williams should be this year but isn't yet

Personally I like on-ball pressure and physical defense so I donot mind the B10 .

If I recall you are in Boston and watch BC and 'Cuse, even Providence jacking shots from anywhere anytime.

Kstate player Clemente got 1 game ( so far ) for elbow and then a head slap last weekend. I fear too many of us IU fans think we are sole protectors of moral high ground in college basketball. I like the high ground but you donot get banners that say " NCAA Moral High Ground Champions".

Agree with Jerry, some real morons wanting him kicked off. Clearly they are the same people who've never played a sport in there life. I hope to see a good game. Will be important for Dumes to not force anything. I fear the Big Ten is becoming unwatchable.
