There's the old ones like Star Blazers, Voltron, Robotech, etc. But then there's the early series on VHS where getting the sub wasn't always easy to get. Sometimes the dub was the only one in the store, so Ranma 1/2's dub was well known in my circle at least. And, it was pretty decent for the most part. Especially Kuno. That was brilliant. But also the Tenchi Muyo dubs. Same thing. Sometimes it was the only version in the store.

There's always Ghost Stories where the dub is cringe, but in a fun way.
Then there's Sister Princess, which really threads the line between "Awwww" and "Ewwww" in a not so fun way.

It's not a matter of pleading poverty, it's just that they often don't drive and therefore need to think about how it's filled up or charged. Kind of like Bush Sr. when we was amazed by the barcode system in grocery stores in 1992. If you don't do the grocery shopping, then it's just not something you're aware of. It's something that's done before they get to the car.

That's also assuming that they're driving to begin with. Even as a Senator, she was probably being driven around by a staff member. Often ordinary tasks take a backseat when they send most of their time fundraising.

Well, there are a number of Kickstarters where I plunked down a few hundred bucks. Particularly the Skip Beat one which I think was $800ish.

for normal stuff there were like $100-200 for a box set. That wasn't too bad.

probably the most per episode was the original Tenchi Muyo! LaserDiscs which were around $35 new for one episode. $66 in today's money.

Galaxy Express 999. There's a lot of good material and ideas that can be explored with modern sensibilities in mind. Assuming the right streaming service gets behind it.

Easy Star Blazers. I was 5 or so when it came out, so it's one of the first shows I remember. That, Scooby Doo and the Sid and Marty Croft shows. I think it holds up today despite the adjustments for the "American TV audience" and the remake just made it better. Galaxy Express 999 is nice and ponderous sci-fi that explores a lot of philosophical questions.

I was looking at my collection and wondering which one is the best.

Angelic Layer? Super tear jerk at the end. Like sobbing the last 2 episodes almost non-stop.

Bunny Drop. Heartwarming tears until you find out about the 2nd part of the story that was never animated. For good reason. But if you don't know that and watching it cold, it's really great.

Honey and Clover has some great tear jerk scenes.

Shingu during some of the more heart melting moments.

Stelvia has many heart breaking moments.

But I think the main one is Space Battleship Yamoto. There's so much heartache and things that are there to try and break their spirit, but they cry and move on so they can save Earth and it's people. i think they threaded the line between hope and despair really well.

I did like how the dad reacted to hearing about the pottery club. The pain was so palpable. They suggested that the mom was obsessed with making pottery that it killed her, but I suspect something else that the dad will get some closure with.

Saint Tail. Released by Tokyo Pop who went under while in production, so there's only 15 episodes dubbed. They would have to probably redo the dub, but at least it can be rescued for streaming with the already done subs. Mostly I think the kids who were looking forward to new dubs should get them. They deserve the positive karma.

Doki Doki School Hours should probably get on streaming at least for the memes that I se around from time to time.

I hope Space Pirate Captain Harlock gets a restore or a redo like Space Battleship Yamato is still getting. It was really great, but it needs some love. Hopefully it'll be the project after Yamato's 3rd season is complete.

Shingu: Secret of the Stellar Wars. It sounds like some fighting anime, and it has some elements to that, but it's mostly a chill kids hanging out and doing goofy school stuff and generally being really nice.

Saint Tail. It was tragically released by Tokyo Pop, who basically went out of business during production, so only the first 15 episodes got a dub and the rest were released as they could, so at least they were all released. Super expensive nowadays and not streaming anywhere, but for those of us with the DVDs, it's a fun Magical Girl Thief ride. Totally adorable.

Pilot Candidate. This is not as obscure. It aired on Cartoon Network even, but it's still unfinished, which is a shame. I think most people forgot about it because of that.

Shingu: Secret of the Stellar Wars
It's such a unique anime that's just a feel good story. Even with an alien invasion and fighting, there's still a good humor to it that warms the heart.

It happens out in the burbs as well. Early Columbia, MD homes were built with terra cotta sewer pipes from the house to the street and tree roots got into them and sometimes collapsed the pipe. Not too bad to replace it, but still a pain. It's just one of those things that will happen no matter where you live.

TBF, the Koihime Muso one (#5) is one character's impression of another with the boobs meant to be exaggerated because the impressionist is flat and conscious about it.
