This entire post explains why blackface is harmful and how black people and perpetuate anti-blackness. There's no need for me to reiterate what's been said here. I spend almost my entire day making content and educating people about racism online for free. Beyond that it's not my job to hold you hand and walk you through why blackface is harmful no matter who does it or their intentions behind it. You also didn't ask for clarification or understanding. You left me a wall of text about why Bob is such a great guy and didn't mean any harm by doing blackface. So yes, leaving your "2 cents" as a white person about what you think about Bob doing blackface is not needed. I don't need you to whitesplain anti-blackness to me. The same way it would be condescending as fuck for me as a straight person to explain to you, a gay man why someone wasn't homophobic.

Check yourself. I haven't "lashed out" at you, but if you need to put me into the angry black woman box that's fine.

FYI I didn't write this post, Kat Blaque did. There's no context for blackface. It's always inappropriate. And as far as I'm concerned, non-black people don't get to decide what is or isn't harmful to black people. As a white person you need to understand that your 2 cents is not always required.

Clearly you didn't watch the video because she didn't "preach" anything. Also Yassmin lives and is from Australia. She's not from a Muslim country. So again, you don't even know what you're talking about. She very clearly says in the video she's from Australia. Hell, you can hear her accent! She's also not suggesting that anyone should wear a hijab. Again, if you actually LISTENED to her speech, she's talking about the assumptions people make based on her hijab and how in reality she's more than just a Muslim woman and she's not being oppressed because of her religious beliefs. What's sad is your so completely blinded by your own ignorance that you've projected your own ideas onto her speech instead of actually listening because it has NOTHING TO DO WITH WEARING THE HIJAB OR BEING MUSLIM and everything to do with examining our own biasses which she admits to as well. I hope this satisfied your thirst for my attention because you are a complete waste of my time.

I appreciate your honesty, even though I don't necessarily agree. I made this post before our conversation continued past "it's a comedy video not a documentary" which I took as very hostile & dismissive. I apologized to Anna for not considering the possible repercussions of sharing this post prior to our conversation & she was kind enough to accept my apology.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm very passionate & am especially sensitive when it comes to sexual assault & that has the potential to color my judgement. I'm still not sure I'd call posting publicly about a public conversation "shaming" but I can understand how you or Anna might view it as such, which is why I apologized. Again, I appreciate your honesty, it's not easy to check someone on their behavior & I'm in no way above correction.

You can critique a film's themes without seeing it. It's not a leap to draw conclusions about what the film is about based on it's promos. Rich white guy goes to jail and enlists a black man to help him. She's not making assumptions about the films content outside of the basic premise. I don't think that's unfair.

lol talking about the microagressions i've experienced isn't racist. I'm not "hiding behind organic farming crap" the point is I talk about lots of important issues, not just racism. So for someone to suggest I *ONLY* post about race and racism to somehow support the idea that I'm "super racist" is ridiculous.

I actually post about lots of different important issues that have nothing to do with race. Just this week I wrote about organic farming, sexism and the economy on Upworthy and shared those posts with my audience via social media. Soooo ummm yeah, I don't only post about race and black people.

I'm not segregating myself because I continue to live with, talk to, befriend, work with and engage with people from all walks of life, not just black people. A hashtag on social media and sharing photos is not forcefully separating anyone from interacting with anyone else. The fact that you think a hashtag is a form of segregation shows how little you understand about the word.

You think it's a nice article. But....did you read it? Because I clearly ended it with,

" I don’t want to push for a world where we can’t say hello or give compliments to strangers, but I think people need to respect the fact that this kind of harassment is a constant issue and as a result, many of us aren’t trying to be rude, we’re just trying to protect ourselves and get through the day alive. "

I'm not saying don't speak to women in public. If you're not a creep, then you're fine. The point is there are enough creeps that many of us feel uncomfortable when strangers speak to us because of previous bad interactions. No one is telling you to stop talking to women or being polite. Just understand that not everyone is going to be receptive because of previous encounters with street harassment. This really shouldn't be that difficult to understand.

Well, my husband doesn't have a fanbase to protect me from. But we've had more than a few times where he was happy to stand up for me in public scenarios. I think how my husband and I handle these situations is a little different because I'm not a celebrity, and neither is he. People aren't making racist comments to me because they're fans of my husband. Most of the comments I get online have nothing to do with him. There's a big difference between the comments that I receive on my YouTube channel and Rob's fans specifically targeting his girlfriend and calling her slurs because she's with him.
