in Affirmative-action defenders slam Jessica Peck Corry on The Colorado Independent
Her remarks were in poor taste, but hardly racist.

And how is it contradictory to advocate a color-blind society and poke fun at somebody's name? Answer: it isn't.

@ dan_green

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, guy, but the Colorado CRI is almost certainly going to pass in November. Similar measures have passed each time they made it to ballot, even in states with far more liberal voters than CO.

in Anti-affirmative action counter campaign pulls lawsuit on The Colorado Independent
Neither the US federal government nor any state government allows for majority rule. There are checks in place at both levels to prevent the minority from being gagged, as it were.

However, referendums to amend state constitutions are legal in many of the states, so in this case the majority does "rule," though only if the measure actually makes it to the ballot. Here we see that it did so in only two of five states, though it will almost certainly pass in those two.
