The guy who saw this ad has a virus on his computer. The virus replaces the ad blocks with their own ads, in this case the penis ad.

Trulia is not serving the ad, it is being served by a third party who has hijacked the computer of the reader.

Re: The End of Our Thrashers Era?!?

I feel your pain. In these times of tight credit trying to get buyers through the credit approval process will take a strong team of financial and mortgage types.

Excellent example of an out of the ordinary case that might look more ordinary as time goes along.

Re: With Great Blogging Power, Comes Great Responsibility

What interests me is the fragility of the press. They tend to be cut throat with other public figures, cutting very little slack on those they cover.

But because they follow the unwritten rule of not covering each other, they are amazed when those of us on the outside look in and cover them with the same jaundiced eye.

I would give the man on the street much more lattitude with my "blogging" than a reporter. Expressly because the reporter has put themselves into the mix.

Re: Newspapers Still Whining About Google News

It is pretty simple.

Newspapers think in terms of geography. Back in the day, if you lived in Buffalo you got your news from the Buffalo News. You did not drive to Cleveland to get the Plains Dealer.

So they had the vehicle to sell specific ads of local businesses to local people. And if you were a national business, the local paper was still the best vehicle to get to those people.

Now there is Google News which messes up the papers conventional thinking two ways. First, their local people can read the stories in other papers. That is stealing.

Second, and more importantly, the local advertisers do not want to pay for a non local person to see their advertising. If I am in Atlanta and read the Buffalo News, I will not be buying a car from the Buffalo Ford Dealer.

So the newspapers, whose job is to sell advertising, is losing readers online in one direction, and gaining readers from outside their target market that ruins the ROI for the local advertisers and creates a harder sell for them.

Essentially their marketing methodology is getting creamed in both directions. That is why they hate Google News.

Re: Win Copies of Bryan Eisenberg’s New Book “Always Be Testing”

This book looks like just what I am looking for as I try to generate more income out of my sites. I lost to many posts due to "hiccups" in the browser.

An added benefit to using blogjet is that you can save draft posts locally to your hard drive. Adding images is also a breeze.

There are other types of posting software, ecto comes to mind, but look into it. Saving one epic post is worth the price of admission.

Re: 3 Essential Requirements for any Web Application

Doug

Your idea of the agency feature for domain registration is brilliant. And to be honest you are seeing only a small part of the scrapers, the moronic fringe so to say.

The good ones also strip the links out so that you can not find them. To prove this, find a sentence in a post from a couple of weeks ago that is truly yours. Do a search on that sentence and you may find a few more that are scraping you posts.

The reason why Real estate blogs are such a great target is that the ads on the pages tend to be a higher dollar amount. And if they can get their sites ranking they can get the gold standard mortgage traffic that pays very well.

Hope this helps and keep up the great work!

Tom

Re: Purchasing Part of an Existing Lot: Ask the Broker

Or you can not worry about the mortgage at all and get a lobbyist and vendor to pay for it like Tony Rezko.

Sure worked well for Barak Obama... :)

Sorry, could not resist.

Tom at the Real Estate Bloggerss last blog post..The Sky Is Not Falling When Bad Bills Do Not Pass

Re: Why Paid Blog Comments are a Waste of Your Money (and my time)

You are a better man than me. I spam these comments as it is a distraction and it seems someone is trying to get one over on me.

What is even more annoying is this type of comment that I am getting more and more of now.

Good comment

(then) blatant advertising pitch including a couple of urls.

While I love the comment the advertising pitch has to go. LOL

But seriously, the other alternative is to have a loosely focused blog on a vertical and then do microblogs that target the specific niches of that vertical. The main one can bring you fame and glory and occasionally funnel traffic and link love to the other sites, but it also allows the other sites to gain the benefit of tightly targeted advertising and sponsorship opportunities.

Re: Online Business Tragedy: The Loss of My Email, Address Book & Calendar

Josh,

If you have a good backup of the data, or one that may be good but you are not sure, start calling the MAC shops in your neck of the woods.
