It is my opinion that "Howdy" is a concept and not---necessarily---a word.

I appreciate and accept that the exact word has meaning to many Aggies, but I also appreciate a general greeting, whether it be a "hi", "hello", "morin' ", "afternoon" or just a nod. I recognize each response as a greeting that is the essence of a friendly campus. To me, the friendly greeting is the definition of "howdy".

I've also seen the extreme: a dyed-in-the-wool-multi-generational Aggie who SHOUTS (as in: SCREAMS) "HOWDY!!!" at the top of his lungs to anyone who does not initially greet him. This abrasive behavior is detrimental to the essence of the idea/concept.

Re: From 29 to 30

Happy Birthday to the little pink pixie! If they have a website, I also check that out. If they have similar interests, or have similar sensibilities then I add them as a friend to follow. Otherwise, I just leave them be."

I'm probably a little more generous than he (I certainly don't have a cap at 100) but I only add those I find really interesting. And, I only get notifications on some of them.

...and I'm using Tweet bar to keep up with my business Twitter account and Meebo IM to keep up with my personal one.

Re: Where Hope Floats

Oh Chel! (Not all of my contacts are geeky enough to create a new message for every new conversation.) Sometimes, conversations evolve.

Re: A Couple That Twitters Together…

We both Tweet during the day. It not only fills in the gaps and provides little insights into one another, it's a way we can share anecdotes and stories.

Re: Listage: Wishin’ and Hopin’

oooooohhhh a vacation by TRAIN. I travel and don't mark up my travel fees. I'd even give you my standard "twitter" discount! I'm so happy for you and just adore your love story.

Re: What Not to Wear - Viewing Party!

The show was GREAT. It was awesome to get to really see you guys talking. Amanda, you were a real trooper and made the most of the show! Kudos! Marc & Fausto, you both did a great job of honoring your friend, even when describing what you didn't like.

GREAT job, everyone!

PS thanks for the tip to TiVo the show. I'd quite likely have missed it if not for the extra notice.

Re: The File

I usually shoot RAW + JPG for portraits and weddings (and even for some personal projects). I use JPG only for "lite" stuff that has minimal editing, like birthday parties.

Re: Is There a Tipping Point in Social Media?

ITA! I find the unconnected and random friend requests a little slimy. I try to be careful, as they could be potential clients, but I'm pretty picky about who I accept as my friend on myspace or other more general social sites. (That being said, I don't bother with those who "follow" me on twitter or whatever since it's a mutual acceptance.)

Thanks for a great blog!

Re: Take the Private Beta Approach, Since It’s Inherently Viral

While this private beta "scheme" may have spread the word about Pownce, I have yet to find a significant enough number of users to get me hooked. Where is the "public view" component or anything else that will let me add friends? I find my Twitter friends because they post. I can't find a similar component in Pownce...and so I never log on and never get a chance to network with the two Pownce friends I have. :( not that I care, really.....Twitter serves my need.
