in A Look at Saturn’s Children on In Pursuit of Mysteries
I recently read Varley's three Mars books, and I'd agree that they were very reminiscent of Heinlein. Unfortunately for me, the third book was reminiscent of all the things I dislike in Heinlein's later work, so I didn't finish it.

I'll be interested to see your thoughts on Zen Skin, Zen Marrow; I've been thinking about reading it.
