in Social Media Goo: Cadbury Campaign Going Viral on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
There's still one, sad fact - the Twisted bar just isn't a patch on a proper Creme Egg. The chocolate to fondant ratio is all wrong. I keep seeing the bars in the shops and just wishing it was September again so the Easter push would start and I could buy an egg.
And, yes, I know Easter's not in September. But try telling that to people trying to flog you Easter eggs. Anyone seen the Christmas decorations working their way into some stores already?

in Don’t Update To Google Chrome Dev v3.0.187.0 on Techie Buzz
Still using it and no sign of 3.0.187.1 via the repository for Linux. I have a feeling the crashes are only with the Windows version and not with Linux (which I'm running).
Mind you, I think the Windows version has more functionality. You don't realise how many sites rely on Flash until you use a browser which doesn't recognise it as yet!

Erm, I've been on 3.0.187.0 since this morning and had no problems at all. Is this just the Windows version?

@Mosh lucky you, many users have been facing this problem of Google Chrome crashing, that is the reason they stop auto-updates for this version

FYI - done a full removal of cookies under Firefox as well. Makes no difference.

There's an issue with links if you have Wordpress plugin enabled and Firefox Extension. Disable the Extension and links will appear. You only need one for Wordpress integration.
We're working on a fix that will allow you to use both plugin and extension and the same time in Firefox. Thanks for letting us know of the problem.

Figured out why...
To get the WP AutoUpdate to work I edited my .htaccess file to "force" the use of PHP5. I just commented out the two lines I added and Zemanta now works again...
The lines were:
AddType x-mapp-php5 .php
AddHandler x-mapp-php5 .php
Interesting.

Having a problem... I updated Zemanta yesterday while on WP2.7.1 - no issues.
Today I upgraded WP to 2.8. My New Post screen layout was slightly awry (Tags had been shifted to the bottom of column 2, but I moved that back) but there is no sign of the Zemanta auto-links section any more. I've checked the layout options and there's no box to tick to display it.
Tags work fine now I've moved them back to where I want them, images are fine but I have no linking functionality.
Tested on Firefox 3.0.10 and Chrome 3.0.187.0 under Ubuntu

Screw tasks - when can I have my public calendar search back? I wish Google would stop crippling perfectly good apps. It took them over a year to reinstate the "Other" field search on GMail.

in Google Book Downloader Downloads Books Easily on Techie Buzz
This is going to sound like a dumb question, but I've checked the script's website and can't find any info:
Where the **** does it save the book to? I've downloaded a couple of books, all seems to go well, I get the "completed" message... but I can't find them on my hard drive. There seems to be no way to configure the download location, and hence work out where it's put them!

@Mosh sorry for the confusion, looks like the script will only create links to download the individual pages and not actually download the content to your drive.

in How to Access Other Computers Remotely on Sizlopedia
We use VNC for our remote support in France. Works a treat. One added bonus is that the "Remote Desktop Viewer" software that ships as standard with Ubuntu is compatible.
A feature of VNC I've found very useful is the file transfer. Ideal if you need to get data or a patch to/from a machine you're connected to.

I was going to say something similar - NoScript for Firefox does the trick for me. Just ensure that scripts aren't allowed for Snopes.com and it works a treat.

All your reasoning regarding blame is spot on. But you can be sure that the media will still blame The Evil Internet in some way or other. Just like it's Doom and Quake that kill kids on our streets and not a million other factors.
Troll he may have been (or not - I don't know), but regardless he shouldn't have been treated that way. Has anyone blamed the emergency services for not reacting to the warnings? Perhaps things could have been different had they paid attention.

Lots of people use the same login details for several sites. By targeting and getting your email address and password, they could - potentially - also get into your PayPal, email, eBay, Hotmail, Google... Anything that uses the email address as the user ID.

in Send SMS From Gmail on Techie Buzz
I'd be interested to see if this ever makes out outside of the US. Pretty much every other country only charges for sending SMS, not receiving them. Having said that, I'm making full use of the Google Calendar's SMS notification system.
If Google Chat does start sending SMS outside of the US then I'll have to start transferring all my Skype contacts into it. I currently use that as it's *far* cheaper than any UK telco for sending texts.

in Dear eBay - did you finally loose the plot? on finette.co.uk : Blog
This might explain why their customer "support" has become so bad... I gave up on them ages ago as the website's often broken and getting anything resolved is in itself a definition of the word "frustration" (if not "impossibility").

in Little Big Planet’s Quran Music Faux Pas on Elliott Back's Blog
You still have to wonder - how and why did the words end up in there in the first place? Someone who understands Arabic and the Quran has picked them and mixed them in for some reason. Stranger yet, it's happened a few times.
But I'd agree with the "if you don't like it, don't buy it" philosophy. DO you hear the Christian churches whinging with every release of a game featuring corpses risen from the grave, or images of Hell, or where the player takes control of a devil or somesuch?

in 2008/10/10/youtube-begins-streaming-full-length-shows-from-cbs/ on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
I don't understand why they'd release a low-quality version of the programs on their own website when they could release them as torrents and save themselves bandwidth costs (referring to the UK sites). If you're going to give something away for free, then do it as cheaply for yourself as possible!

in 2008/10/10/youtube-begins-streaming-full-length-shows-from-cbs/ on Mashable - The Social Media Guide
Steve,
I'm not a YouTube or a marketing person so I can't answer that question fully. However, I believe the episodes they've released contain advertising and that will be targeted at the US. They'd need to get UK (or Croat, or Australian or...) sponsors before they released the videos into another territory, I guess. I can understand that's why CBS's broadcasts - for instance - are restricted to the US.
In the UK, we have a similar thing whereas ITV - again, for instance - have many of their classic programs available to stream on their website. The quality of download is even lower than that of general YouTube videos, and they again they restrict the access to UK only. As a result, people turn to torrents and illegally download them at a higher quality. Mind you, how you can "illegally" download something that's available for free elsewhere I don't know!
